Over-promised under delivered simplicity

In general, it's very good for finding remote job applications. But the whole concept behind it makes the application process easier wasn't true for me, it was just another LinkedIn hole. I had to put my full profile into Otta so it makes applications easier and you "just click submit" to the jobs you want but it feels like only 5% of the job postings let you submit with an Otta profile. I'm tired of having to manually re-input my whole life into each company's website.

Excellent and relevant platform

Excellent and relevant platform. For one, I could put in my requirements, and I didn't get a load of jobs that had nothing to do with my skill set. Secondly, I could put in remote first and then received jobs that ARE remote first. Thirdly, the types of companies who advertise their roles with Otta are the types of companies I would want to work for!
Finally, the communication, the layout, my profile page, my applied jobs section, it's all so straight forward and easy to navigate, why would I go anywhere else!

Seems like they are in trouble

Unfortunately they offered a deal they then withdrew. It seems like they are in trouble as they are desperate for cash. Careful.

EDIT: We didn't want a monthly contract, we simply wanted Otta to prove its value with a break clause after 3 months. Instead they wanted us to pay 15 months upfront to get this, which reeked of cash desperation.

The response is a lie and a spitful one, and regardless detailing private discussion isn't professional.

Shame, this experience has shifted my view from positive about Otta to wholly negative.

Hi James, I’ve looked at all the emails between Otta and Houst (which were with your colleague Sarah) where Houst was requesting changes to our typical deal.

I can’t see evidence of us offering a deal then withdrawing it. It was mentioned a few times by our Sales team-member that they’d chat with their manager to see if your ideal terms could be possible.

It feels like you’re giving us a 1* review because we couldn’t offer what you wanted (e.g. you wanted monthly contracts - which we never offer; you wanted guaranteed uplift on applications - which we never offer). I’m sorry that’s the case, but I feel we took a fair position of making our stance clear, and saying we can’t meet what you want.

In terms of being desperate for cash, I’m not quite sure where that has come from. That’s certainly not the case. We have a large % of our $20m Series A in the bank.

I'm sorry you feel that way about us. I'm not clear which part of my response is perceived to be a lie. Nor do I believe I've been unprofessional here in trying to explain.

We rarely offer 3-month breaks. In Houst's situation, we didn't feel it was necessary to offer it because you have been on the Otta platform for free since January 2020 and have received thousands of applications, and made numerous hires.

Never going back to traditional job boards

Great UI, wide range of top-class employers listing jobs, plus a fantastic CV-creation tool with an integrated AI language model to assist you. Will only ever be using Otta again for my future work (software engineer).

Easy to use system

Easy to use system, the insights provided on the hiring company were very helpful, and the alerts/reminders were useful rather than intrusive. Bonus if a charitable donation when you found a job!

I got a job from Otta

I got a job from Otta. The experience was fantastic. Otta provides more information about the role and the company than most other sites. It also uses AI to help you improve your CV, which is very handy. Highly recommended if you are looking for a job in the startup & scaleup world.
