I first spoke with Andrew at Northern Moving Systems about a year ago when I was considering buying a house. He was personable, patient, and friendly, and when I finally found the house I wanted, I was genuinely happy to be working with him. He reassured me that everything would go smoothly. The plan was for the movers to pick up what I had in storage, which was only about 50% full, along with my two-bedroom apartment. I was quoted $5,300 and made my first payment by credit card with no issue.

In the time between getting my original quote and actually moving, I had also gotten rid of a significant amount of furniture and belongings. I got rid of the second bedroom set, my dining room set, and two patio chairs. I also personally took a 4’ x 8’ trailer full of belongings with me at an additional cost to myself. So I had made a considerable effort to reduce the amount being moved before moving day.

When moving day arrived, the inventory was reviewed, and I was suddenly told the move was going to cost approximately $3,000 more than the original quote because I had more belongings than anticipated. I was told that the movers loading the truck would be able to show me exactly how much space I had been allotted and how much space I was actually using. When they finished loading, they showed me that I was right at my allotted space. I was relieved because I believed that meant I would not owe anything beyond what I had already been quoted.

I was then told that the movers were wrong about what they had shown me.

Only 12 crates from my storage unit were loaded onto the truck, yet I was charged another $2,100, supposedly because I was 100 cubic feet over my allotted space. That additional amount was due when my belongings reached their destination. Again, I paid what I was told I owed by credit card.

I spoke with Andrew, and he said he would try to get the situation sorted out because even he didn’t understand why I was being charged an additional $2,100 for supposedly being 100 cubic feet over.

Then I received a call from the driver demanding that I pay the $2,100 in cash or by Zelle. His manner of speaking to me was extremely aggressive and felt more like he was talking at me than trying to help me understand what was happening. I couldn’t get a straight answer from anyone. At one point I was told I didn’t owe the money and that they needed to see what I had signed. Then I was told that, yes, I did owe it. No one could clearly explain how the $2,100 was calculated. I was simply told that if I didn’t pay the driver in cash, my belongings would be put into storage and I would be charged even more.

I understand that moving estimates can change and that additional charges can happen when there are more belongings than originally estimated. What I don’t understand is how I was told the additional charge was $7 per cubic foot, that I was supposedly 100 cubic feet over, and somehow that resulted in a $2,100 charge. That’s $700 based on the rate I was given, not $2,100. Despite repeatedly asking for an explanation, nobody ever gave me one.

I am still waiting for mediation and have reached out multiple times without getting a resolution.

Unfortunately, the problems didn’t end with the billing. Several of my belongings were damaged. I watched boxes clearly marked “FRAGILE” and “GLASS” being dropped and stacked on top of one another, while boxes marked “BOOKS” were placed on top of boxes marked “GLASS.” There was very little care taken with my belongings.

To make matters worse, the delivery driver who was demanding the additional $2,100 was angry that I didn’t tip him and made sure I knew he was unhappy about it.

What makes this experience especially disappointing is that I started this process with a lot of confidence in Andrew. He had been helpful and reassuring from the beginning, and I genuinely believed I was in good hands. Unfortunately, the actual moving experience was completely different.

I understand that moving can be stressful and that unexpected costs can happen. What I don’t accept is being given conflicting information, being unable to get a clear explanation of charges, having my belongings handled carelessly, and being pressured to pay a large amount of money directly to a driver under the threat of having my belongings stored and incurring even more charges.

This was, unfortunately, one of the worst moving experiences I’ve ever had, and I cannot recommend Northern Moving Systems based on my experience.

If I could give zero I would. This company uses deceptive practices. They give you a quote, you try to let them know you have sold something’s and added something’s but they say to tell the guy that calls before they come out. They contract the move out to another company who when they show up does up charges of $3500 more because they say you have more than was quoted.

You have to be out so you sign the paperwork. You have to pay with certified check, money order, cash. Then this company contracts another company to deliver your furniture. You set up date to deliver furniture, they give themselves 10-14 days to deliver with no intention of delivering on date you requested. You finally get your furniture 5 days later and have to give the driver of a different company cash and sign ALL paperwork before furniture comes off the truck. I never have received a copy of the paperwork I signed at the end.

Then the company you hire gets this guy to contact you pretending to understand and agrees with you has you rush info to them and then according to them the board says will give you 1000 back and I should dispute charges on my credit card, if I sign that I won’t write a bad review. My answer is NO.

Companies like these should not be in business. All they say is you signed the contracts, you had more, etc. I started out with 24 pieces of furniture and 40 boxes. I had called to tell them they would need to pack 7 large pictures and a little bit in pantry and garage. They added 10 more boxes charged 500 more. When the driver showed said I had 113 boxes. I haven’t finished yet going throw all boxes but doesn’t appear I have that many boxes. You have to move you are on a deadline, they have you over a barrel.

I’ve moved multiple times with military and several times private hire and this company is the worst. Review companies protect them because you can’t use their names.

If I could rate this company less than 1 star I would definitely do so. They are very unprofessional and lie about delivery dates. Someone by the name of Will decided it was a good idea to go back and forth with me about adding and subtracting extra items due to a last minute $300 additional fee when the moving services were already $2300. There is a hispanic woman that is in charge of connecting with dispatch to find out ETA of delivery. She has also lied about the ETA of when my items will be delivered. When you call the main office, they claim that management isn't available, and some lower-level employee gives excuses for the company and why they have yet to deliver any items. At this point, it has been over a month since my items were to be delivered from Arizona, and I still have received nothing but empty promises and lies. No one is able to tell me where exactly my items are located, and where they were/are being stored. The whole company is a joke, do not send your items with them. You are better off hiring your own driving crew and shipping your things on your own.

Update(as of 3:18pm 8/5/26). The company replied to my complaint below defending their actions. Funny thing is they're still lying. Someone from their company told me last week my items would be here between SUNDAY and TUESDAY (which was yesterday) indicating my items were in the area and on the East coast. As of today after leaving this review, sending emails and calling to express my frustration someone else from their company called to tell me my items were on their way in Michigan.... how and the company just commented below that my items are in Arizona? Which one is it lol. Please go with someone else who will spare you.

We needed a long-distance move from a home including a heavy equipment stored in a tool shed in Northern Ontario. Norhern Moving did an absolutely amazing job and went above and beyond what was expected. They finished packing what we had not completed. Blankets and wrap was provided for everything and all items arrived in perfect condition. They found them to be very qualified, efficient and happy to help with anything. They certainly took away our anxiety and stress amd made it a smooth transition. We highly recommend their services for any long-distance or local moving .

Excellent experience start to finish

The movers themselves were great. It was my first time using any moving service. One thing I learned is that you need to be very specific about what is moving. I thought I relayed everything to my initial contact, they no longer worked for the company two months later, and the movers showed me what was on their sheet. So some miscommunication between myself and the original guy and it was too late to change it.
That being said, they were able to accommodate what they could if they had the allocated space, and everything arrived on a local move unscathed. We did appliances and furniture only, no boxes. They did offer a boxing service, but we opted to save a bit of money and handle that ourselves.
My booking initially came from utility connect so I was given a promotional rate.

I was burglarize $100,000 worth of stuff. The company is managed by outside contractors in different state I believe on the north side. They cleaned me out and charged for space that didn’t even take place. I want to cry and scream. Down to my safe, jewelry, clothes, broken dresser missing kitchenware,broken dresser missing bed frames and my children was in tears because their games and clothes were gone. I will never forget this. They had the nerve to ask for a tip after I spent $6000 for you to move me just received absolutely nothing. What ever you didn’t want to take from me yall took it and came into my home for more. There’s a place in hell for each and everyone of you thats is in business with theses barbarians,Russian Albanians workers. Don’t do anything business with them they are thieves before they touch your property and when you expect them to deliver all honestly they have stolen nearly everything. Not even a quarter of my stuff was delivered. RUN AWAY FAR!!!! When I asked where was the rest of my stuff the company workers didn’t even contact me back only responded to say if they didn’t deliver. Let’s not forget they take your belongings and hold it for 10 days before they bring to your home.They are living in the trucks they move your stuff in. I saw one of the trucks with a laundry line which was hanging their clothes. They have 2 trucks and the other truck is where load your belongings they want. Their company knows about their stealing and scams but to top it off the company knows the 3rd parties personally. THIS IS THE WORST COMPANY TO TRUST WITH YOUR LIFE WORTH OF STUFF. I will never forget this. The contract is a scam to get access to your values and take all of your money. Absolutely, no paperwork was given to me at delivery. The guy stated someone else from the company will give me the paperwork and the person I paid over the phone said the delivery guy will give me the papers. Fun and game with lies. I never signed anything upon delivery.

I must say that the moving company provided me with a sense of security during the move. They were very good and honest. I would recommend them to anyone.

I was a bit worried about moving, but the team made everything much easier than I expected. They arrived on time, worked efficiently, and took good care of my belongings. The pricing was fair and there were no surprises. Very happy with the service.
