Breach of Contract
Breach of Contract, Dangerous Mechanical Practice, and Cruel Customer Service at The Lion Garage, Leicester.
I am writing this review to warn all motorists, especially Audi owners, about the deeply unprofessional service, contract breaches, and bullying I experienced at The Lion Garage on Cobden Street.
The Broken Package ContractI booked my Audi A5 S Line 2.0L TDI Diesel for a gear oil change, but called ahead to ask them to check a noisy dual-mass flywheel (DMF) first. Luke phoned me back, confirmed the DMF and clutch needed replacing, and gave a verbal quote of £1,470 which explicitly included the clutch, DMF, and the gear oil change. I readily accepted.
Upon collection, they charged me £1,423.25, but I noticed the gear oil change was completely missing. Martin dismissively claimed it "didn't need doing." When I insisted, he told me to book it in a second time and promised a flat rate of £70 (fluid only) as a goodwill gesture to fix their mistake.
The Dangerous Filter Lie
When I dropped the car off for the second booking, I asked to replace the gearbox filter. Martin aggressively used his "authority" to bully and patronise me, claiming the car "has no filter" and stating they "usually just take the filter out, clean it, and put it back." This is a massive red flag. The Audi S-Tronic uses a single-use paper cartridge filter filled with metal shavings. Cleaning it instead of replacing it is grossly negligent and can destroy the gearbox mechatronics.I called an Audi main dealer who confirmed the filter exists, and I drove straight back to the garage. I made Luke check their trade computer, which proved me right. Luke found the external filter and agreed to fit a brand-new one for an extra £10-15.
The Cover-Up and OverchargeUpon final collection on a Friday, Luke hid in the back and refused to come to the desk. Martin took over, inflated the promised £70 bill to £102, and completely failed to change the filter. They charged me premium money for an incomplete job, meaning a trusted garage will now have to drain and waste this new oil just to change the filter properly. To make matters worse, the first time I had the flywheel done, Martin phoned me just 5 minutes before closing demanding immediate collection.
He knew I had no lift and am a vulnerable cancer patient facing upcoming surgery, forcing me to rush there under immense stress. When I got the car, the battery was low because they had left the premium radio running while working on it. The settings on my radio were changed.
Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, traders must work with reasonable care and skill, and verbal price agreements are legally binding. This garage completely failed both. Martin knowingly lied to, overcharged, and patronised a vulnerable customer fighting the hardest battle of her life. The Lion Garage absolutely cannot be trusted, and I will NEVER return.
