Holding fee release time unknown!?

Well I've a bit of battery in my phone now, nice, I can call a cab and get myself home! Nah, not really! I have no money because the £30 holding fee has not been released yet. It's been two hours now, I'm stranded in this hell hole of a shopping centre with awful festive music
everywhere and there is a storm outside, freezing cold rain and blowing an absolute hooly, there is no escape. Paying to use one of these joos gadgets and trusting the holding fee process is the absolute worse decision in a good long time. Seriously, in a world where we have instant transactions flying everywhere, how can this be? it's ruined my day! You owe me a pint Joos!

EDIT: I'd like to point out too, I didn't even come to mk shopping centre to shop, I knew there was a way to charge my phone here, desperate measures and all that, now I'm amongst them, lord have mercy

EDIT AGAIN: A brass band is now playing Joos! A BRASS BAND! release my £30 with great haste! I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. Also, that'll be two pints now please

EDIT AGAIN AGAIN: I've lost faith in the system, my phone ran out of battery again!! 😭 I did however manage to find refuge in a charity record store, an oasis in the middle of bratwurst umpa hell. I found a mint condition original Disintegration by the cure vinyl.. £30!!!! Absolute joke, the bloke said I should leave the store after offering half a pack of Smints for it. I ended up in wethespoons, Jesus Christ!! They did at least charge my phone FOR FREE if only I could have shown some gratitude by purchasing a pint of the cheapest beer anywhere in this concrete cow ghetto

While we can tell you managed to keep your sense of humor through it all (your storytelling is amazing, by the way!), being stranded without access to your funds is no joke. You're absolutely right that in today's world of instant transactions, waiting for a holding deposit to clear is frustrating.

Just to explain: when the power bank is returned, our system immediately tells your bank to release the hold, but unfortunately each bank processes these releases at different speeds - some are quick, others can take several hours.
We totally get your frustration about being caught in festive shopping center chaos (complete with brass band soundtrack! 🎺) while waiting for your funds.
While we can't speed up the bank's process, we'd love to make this right - please drop us a message at customers@joospower.com with your rental details.

Scam

No where on the machine did it say it will charge me £30 even when I payed the machine never had a price. This is extremely misleading on purpose. False advertisement

SCAM

SCAM! I was working at comic con in Birmingham nec Saturday and Sunday so I rented a power bank to help me through my shifts. This machine states £3 for 48 hours. I had the device for 29 hours, returned it after those 29 hours and went home. This morning I get a notification that joos are charging me £27 for a device I do not have and customer service are simply telling me "someone will pop by when they have chance to see if it's returned" and I apparently just have to sit and wait for them to return stolen money. They also somehow expected me to know their systems are stupid and are requesting photographic evidence of me returning the device? Who does that? Maybe your systems should give receipts or something. This is insane. I'll absolutely not be using this service again.

There seems to be a misunderstanding about our pricing structure - it's £3 to unlock, plus additional rental charges, with the full retail price applied for unreturned items. Timely Boost!

An unforeseen visit to the hospital, during which I was without my charger for several hours, presented significant challenges. However, the service provided by Joos for renting a power bank proved invaluable, ensuring my device remained charged while I needed to stay in constant communication with my family. The pricing was also very reasonable, and I would not hesitate to utilize their power bank rental service again should the need arise.

Quick, fast and efficient

I stumbled into Joos while shopping and realized I had none of my physical bank cards with me and that my phone battery was about to die! Thankfully, by renting a powerbank, I was able to shop for a couple more hours and able to get home safely. Excellent, quick and fast service. :)

Still awaiting refund ...

Joos promised me a refund after fining me £30 when their return banks were either broken or full. I am still waiting - 10 days later - for the refund to appear in my account. Please note: they are VERY quick to take your money, and VERY slow to refund you. Who knows? It may never appear at all. I deeply regret my brush with Joos - they're a terrible company.

Total scamming company - hidden charges AVOID

Complete rip off do not use - hidden charges. Stuck in A&E my phone was getting low, in a rush I hadn't got a charger. Saw their power bank machine and it had a big sign on it saying £3.00 hire for 48 hours. Didn't feel that was too bad. Checked my bank statement and I had been charged another £2.40. This is apparently their rental charge at £0.48 per 30 mins of which I quote their customer chat "all associated costs, are clearly outlined in the app"! When your phone is about to die and you are looking after someone severely ill in A&E do you have time to think to open an app in case there is hidden charges and read the small print! Asked them this but they weren't interested just quoted from their script. Appalling customer service and disgusting they are making money from those who are most vulnerable. These hidden charges should be advertised on their machines not just the £3.00 cost. DO NOT USE THEM unless you want to be ripped off, total scammers.

> £3 unlocking fee
> £0.48 per 30 minutes rental fee
> £30 charge if not returned within 48 hours

However, we hear your feedback that this information wasn't readily visible on the physical station when you needed it most. We're currently in the process of upgrading our stations across the UK with larger screens that will display all pricing information more prominently.

JoosPower came to my rescue on a recent trip from Glasgow to Edinburgh. I travel this route often and nearly missed my train when my phone died—with my ticket on it. Thankfully, I found their kiosk in St Enoch shopping centre near Glasgow Central and picked up a charger. The process was straightforward, though I had to approve a £30 pre-authorisation since I didn’t have an account, but I’m planning to set one up to avoid that next time. Charged my phone on the train and returned the charger in Edinburgh without any hassle. The price is great, and I’ll definitely use it again. Much handier than carrying a power bank with me all the time!

Very useful in a pinch and good customer service

I've rented a Joos device twice now and helped me out a lot when I was in a pinch. I use my phone for everything from maps to paying for stuff so if I forget my powerbank or lose/break my charger, I'm glad that I can use Joos to bail me out. There was a small issue with the card payment but the customer service was very efficient and friendly that the issue got sorted out just fine. With how terrible I am at being prepared, this probably won't be the last time I use Joos.

Horrible!

Horrible!! Joos is making me pay for a charger which was an accidental order placed to collect in a mall which was already closed, and the customer service people kept arguing that there is nothing which they can go till I actually go push the charger back in, I leave the city tomorrow before the mall opens how will I even manage to do that? That’s £30 gone in drain. I have screenshots from customer service to prove the same!

We're terribly sorry you're in this frustrating situation! Facing a £30 charge when you can't return the power bank before leaving the city tomorrow is incredibly stressful, and we completely understand how upsetting this is.

We'd love to help explain why our returns work this way: Once a power bank pops out of the station, it becomes available for anyone to pick up. Since they can be recharged at home, we unfortunately run a real risk of losing them forever if they're left unattended. While our customer service team would love nothing more than to help sort this remotely, we actually can't return the power bank from our office - it needs to be physically popped back into the station to register as returned and stop those pesky rental charges.

We know this timing is particularly tricky with the shopping centre being closed and your departure today. Do you perhaps have a mate, colleague, or family member nearby who could help pop it back to the station for you? We're really keen to find a solution that works for you!

I just used two power banks at Watford…

I just used two power banks at Watford General Hospital. When I returned them, one of them didn’t initially register as “returned “. However I contacted the customer service online and within 15 seconds they responded to me (I wasn’t expecting the speed of response at all on a Saturday night, I was thinking “typical, they won’t reply to me for 1-2 days”). They asked me for a few pictures and within 15 minutes they fixed the issue. Just due to the speed and effectiveness of the response, it prompted me to leave a good review. Also it charges fast.

They Steal Your Money

3rd UPDATE:
12 months later and Joos are still attempting to take this money even though they have, acknowledged it is not due.

STAY AWAY FROM JOOS.

2nd UPDATE:

Multiple attempts have been made to take the money but have been unsuccessful as the card has been frozen.

They have attempted to take money to which they have no legal entitlement but are conveniently ignoring this in their response.

UPDATE :
Joos still refusing to refund the money.

Pretending to care in their response.

If you don't want to be subject to national bad press, Joos, refund all the money you've taken fraudulently.

You know there's a problem, you acknowledge machines are faulty on this website.

Make those refunds today!

Also have a friend who is an investigative journalist for national media who is interested in getting more evidence of the hundreds, potentially thousands of people, this company is stealing money from.
