Completely useless. Beyond a joke
Applied on the 16th of February 2026. Currently im on working day 75.. still waiting for my passport.. I was born in northern Ireland.. so I had all the relevant documents needed. The online chat is useless never any agents available and when I phone I'm between 24th to 27th in the queue. Online tracker is useless doesn't give any info. I've emailed but not had any reply. Passport was meant to be dispatched on Friday 29th of may. But now tracker bar has been reduced. Very poor service. Ive given up now
Irish passport delays
After waiting over 7 weeks for my application to be processed, I was sent an email yesterday asking me to send another picture which I did online and which was accepted. However, I was also asked to provide a letter from the Government with my forename and surname on it and address. The Irish passport office has been in possession of my UK passport for the entire 7 weeks so I fail to understand why this is not a suitable government document for their purpose. Anyway, I’ve sent another document to them costing another £9 in postage and will no doubt suffer further delays with my application.
Worst service ever - a joke
The 20 day turn around for issuing is a joke! Over twice that time and still no passport. Of course they cover themselves by stating the 20 days is only an estimate. Yes they may have a backlog but working 9-4.30 daily and no weekends is NOT gonna clear it. Micheal Martin says he’s aiming to reduce these times but in the meantime people are being stressed out trying to obtain their passports! As one of the last reviews said SORT IT OUT - how inept are you???

Sent in my first application with documents, by the time they eventually got around to it I’d to send further information,3 week’s from posting I received a email saying I needed to send other documents, so I sent them
In hope everything was in place to proceed with the application, then I received a email telling me me I had to send a letter from the uk government,,, holy god, so I phoned to ensure the evidence I would supply was enough and I was told “yes that’s fine” so after 4 recorded deliveries at a cost of £40 I then received a email 3 weeks later to tell me my photographic evidence has expired and they can’t use it and to forward a colour photocopy of my driving license signed by my witness and send a new photo via their link, I originally sent my British passport with 3 months before it expired,,, at this point I’m thinking I’m not going to get my passport in time before I travel so I asked for my passport to be returned so I could apply for a renewal, I then got a email telling me to send evidence that I have flights booked with my name in in the conformation to return my passport that I sent on the 22nd of February and because of their incompetence it went out of date,,, I’ve no words only that it’s going to cot me£240 to get a emergency British passport to allow me to go on my annual holiday,,, absolutely shocking service, and we’d chat is useless, if I knit would be like this I’d have avoided and my husband is in the same position as myself, we’re out a shed load of money and no passport, shame on you.

If I could give zero stars i would. Absolute abysmal service. Delivered on 8th January and still not returned. Tracker said it would be here on 12th March and still nothing. Had all my documents back 2 weeks ago and still no passport. Needs a serious overhaul and something done about it. SORT IT OUT
Pointless tracker
Giving an extra star as people are nice, in the main, when you can contact them. 8 plus weeks now. Well pass the spurious “ target” date. Why bother? The whole “tracker” on the website is pointless.

Renewal service
The online passport renewal service was straightforward to use, and I am saying that as someone who is a basic IT user. From completing the renewal process online, it took only 5 days before I had my new passport in my hand. Additionally, I had reason to phone the support centre before I applied, and I got through without any waiting, and the adviser was very knowledgeable and able to help straightaway. All in all, I think this is an excellent service.
A First class Public Service
The recent software issue resulted on 1 of our new passports needing immediate change - we were informed by email and a telephone contact number was given for urgent cases. We telephoned and a very polite friendly helpful Gentleman let us know they were opening especially on Sunday to facilitate clients travelling. Up early on Sunday and only 3 or 4 people there at 7.45 [we were keen Ha!]. At 9am there seemed to be about 40 or 50 people. Convivial wait chatting. At 9am doors opened and a number of extremely engaging empathetic members of staff very adeptly explained the process and invited us in - Every member of the passport team was helpful and approachable on a level that is rarely seen in even the most dynamic private sector companies. Superb, coordinated and professional response to the issue with a level of empathy evident from each and every member of their team (who remember were working an unscheduled Sunday) was palpable. Adrienne collected her Passport at 12pm ! We would also add that over recent years our family's experience of our Passport Service has been first class and really efficient.

I went in stressed out because I realised my passport was out of date and wasn’t sure if I would be able to travel, I’m not good at on line or forms and they patiently walked me through the whole procedure. I am Irish but have lived in Scotland for 24 years and have applied for an Irish passport - they called my witness several times whilst she was in school class working as a teacher, I called the same number back to advise them that she cannot answer during school hours - the woman sharply asked my how I had gotten her direct number.. then she finally got my witness and all the info needed but still decided to decline in saying I needed to send my marriage certificate, birth certificate and letters with address - they already have my uk passport details with my married name on .. they then closed my application 17 days early because they say it takes 20 days to process once they receive something ?! I had to order the marriage certificate because after a move I couldn’t find it and this is why I had not sent it yet. Several phone calls of different info and getting nowhere! It’s honestly a disgusting way to treat people.

Unbelievably good service

Embarrassed beyond Belief at the service and attitude of the staff who work here. No matter what they’re sent, there’s an issue. The lady I spoke to today told me I didn’t have to get an Irish passport I could go get an English one when I said their service was superior. For the price we’re paying including postage and verification the service should be better!! Absolutely disgusting!!
Turnaround Service
I applied online yesterday for my passport renewal. I did my photo in a Photo Me booth and I received my new passport this morning. What a service!! Thanks to everyone involved.

I have been waiting for my passport application for **7 months**, far exceeding the 2-week standard.
I have exhausted all formal communication channels (email, phone, official complaints) and have received no reply from anyone. The lack of communication is unacceptable. This is a complete failure of public service. My case is a clear example of bureaucratic indifference and lack of accountability. I am still waiting for a response and a solution.

New passport app - third request for resubmission - each time takes them x6 weeks before they tell you to resubmit. General obfuscation and incompetence. I am actually IN Ireland on hols and can walk in & sort it today but they tell me I HAVE to resubmit from AUSTRALIA & take ANOTHER 6 wks ffs!
