Abysmal customer service
Trying to return a smart light bulb ordered online, which it turns out is not compatible with my IKEA smart gateway (no mention of that on the product information page, obviously).
Cannot get through on the phone, cannot get through on web chat ("Unfortunately we're busier than usual at the moment. Waiting times are long.", like it's an unavoidable act of God or something), cannot return online because they want £25 to courier a light bulb ten miles even though it is faulty and they are legally responsible for the return postage. I guess I will just have to suck it up. If it wasn't just £5 I would dispute the transaction with my credit card company and get a refund. But I'll be closing my IKEA account and I won't be shopping there again - the products are crap, and the customer service is even worse.
PARCEL ABANDONED IN POURING RAIN DUTING STORM
NO DELIVERY TIME ESTIMATE GIVEN. COURIER LEFT PARCEL IN THE POURING RAIN DURING A STORM WHEN INSTRUCTIONS WERE LEFT TO PUT IT IN A COVERED AREA 15 FEET AWAY.
Avoid IKEA kitchens
IKEA kitchens are cheap but you get what you pay for. Once the warranty period expires you can be guaranteed everything will fail, so in the long run they’re probably not cheaper. Despite some appliances failing within the warranty period they refuse to replace them instead opting for constant temporary repairs until you’re out of warranty. We were on a budget after buying our first home but I wish we’d saved a bit longer and got a better quality kitchen. Would avoid if possible.
Do not trust IKEA with warranty or customer service. Absolute joke.
Our sofa which we bought with IKEA about a year & a half ago broke & we thought it would be quick & easy to sort as we had a 10 year warranty on it with IKEA. Sadly, this has been an absolute nightmare & the furthest thing from easy to sort out.
Firstly, they delivered the replacement sofa & promised to pick up the broken one the very next day. This did not happen. No communication was made about the pick up on the supposed day of pick up at all & no one showed up. So the broken sofa, which includes a chaise longue which keeps opening is now stuck in our already tight hallway. Myself, my wife AND our kids have all hurt ourselves on the thing and recieved splinters from it in the time its been sat there, not to mention how annoying it is preventing access to cupboards we use daily as its not exactly light to move. I also have a bad back, which doesn't help.
When we called to chase up the pick up, they said they couldn't find any booking at all & that the next available date would be over a month away, for something that wasn't our fault & shouldn't be our problem. This was their mess to fix & that was the best they could do. Completely unacceptable. It gets worse though as about a week later, we recieve an email saying the collection had been cancelled & no new date was given. We phoned again & got told they were having issues with their booking systems & had no idea when they could collect the sofa. No compensation, just excuses. We were told we'd be contacted & we haven't been.
We phoned again over a week later to chase them up & because our new sofa was now having the same issue less than a month of having it. They were still having issues apparently, but the person on the phone at least seemed more empathic this time & offered a £20 voucher. Not good enough in my opinion, but better than nothing I suppose. We were again told someone would be in contact to now swap the sofa for a different sofa entirely & we'd pay the difference. At this point, we were just fed up & wanted this sorted & the sofas gone, but this was about almost 3 weeks ago now & STILL no communication from IKEA about collection for the broken sofas or the one thats been in our hall for almost two months.
IKEA are an absolute joke & were it not for the warranty, i'd be taking my business elsewhere. £20 for the stress, the annoyance, the injuries & lack of communication and customer service is just completely unacceptable.
Why are returns so difficult?
I bought an item online which is pretty useless. Trying to return it SHOULD be easy as they just need to send a barcode so I can post it back for a refund. I have been through the process twice and still no barcode. I have tried the online chat with Billy - that's a waste of time. Then I got a message saying they had sent a return code that was different to the barcode but would do the same job. However I have received absolutely nothing. Now I have to waste MORE time trying to get what surely is not difficult to send.
IKEA is amazing
IKEA is amazing, just managed to get my wardrobe designed and ordered from Ashton underlyne with a big help from karmel, she was amazing. Thank you so much
POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. POOR STANDARDS. IKEA, YOU NEED TO DO BETTER!
POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. POOR STANDARDS. IKEA, YOU NEED TO DO BETTER!
I ordered a sofa from IKEA, with delivery split into two parts by two different courier companies. The first delivery, the sofa frame, arrived on time at the correct address with absolutely no issues. The second delivery, the sofa cover, was due on 24 October 2026 via DPD — but was refused because apparently the delivery address was incorrect or incomplete.
Let’s get one thing straight: I paid IKEA, not DPD. IKEA is responsible for ensuring my complete order reaches me as promised. The first part arrived without a problem, so why has the second part become my problem to resolve?
After spending 30 minutes on hold, I finally spoke to customer service, only to be met with excuses, endless waffle about DPD, and absolutely no meaningful solution. Apparently, IKEA will relabel the parcel and deliver it on Monday, 26 October. That’s all well and good for IKEA, but what about the customer who paid in full and expected their order on time?
I have guests coming over this weekend. Now I’m left with a sofa frame and no cover, making my living room look unfinished and leaving me in an embarrassing situation that could and should have been avoided.
What makes this even more frustrating is that the sofa cover is in stock at IKEA Lakeside, RM20, just around the corner from where I live. I even offered a simple, practical solution: arrange for me to collect the cover from the store, as I have already paid for the entire sofa. The answer? No. Apparently, they cannot offer that option.
So, instead of finding a solution that would actually help the customer, IKEA would rather hide behind its courier arrangements and expect the customer to accept the inconvenience.
This is NOT customer service. This is a complete failure of customer care, accountability and common sense.
IKEA seems happy to take customers’ money but far less interested in resolving problems when things go wrong. I should not have to spend 30 minutes on hold, listen to excuses, or find my own solutions because IKEA’s delivery arrangements have failed.
I don’t care which courier IKEA chooses to use. That is IKEA’s business decision, not my problem. I paid for a complete sofa, and I expect the complete sofa to be delivered as agreed.
To IKEA’s senior management: is this genuinely the standard of service you want your customers to experience? Because if this is how you treat a paying customer over a straightforward delivery issue, it seriously undermines the trust people place in your brand.
Poor customer service. Poor problem-solving. Poor standards. Absolutely unacceptable.
Do better, IKEA. Customers deserve solutions, not excuses.
Faulty desk with defects
Overall, my experience with IKEA has been a bit of a pain, and I don't think I will ever order from IKEA again - I havent had this number of issues with any other furniture supplier.
I ordered an £85 desk and drawers from Ikea. Of the order, two of the drawers could not be assembled due to a fault. We called up for replacement ALEX drawers 36x70 white - and i just found out they are sending one, when we actually need TWO, so I have to phone up again.
Also the table top - LAGKAPTEN table top Article no: 104.606.66 - has a dent in it, so we got a refund for the table top only, but I have to put up with a brand new desk with a dent in it.

We bought the Havasta sliding units the other week & took about 8 hrs for me to assemble.
Very well made & assembly instructions easy to follow.
We are very pleased with both the price & manufacturing quality.
No reply from customer service since July
I had an issue with a set of tupperware which was not air tight even though it was advertised as such. I contacted Ikea customer services on 16th July, they asked me to verify my order details which I did & then I received no reply.
I emailed on 23rd August for an update - to date no reply has been received to that email.
I then sent in a fresh complaint on the 29th Aug & included all screenshots of the previous emails, they took over 2 weeks to reply & said I need to verify my order details AGAIN. So tedious.
I re-confirmed all my details on the 17th Sep & I have had no reply since.
It is almost November.
This is SO poor.
I will now be escalating this to retailAdr.
The most useless delivery management in the country!
Large order of furniture for my new flat and was given a 4-hour delivery slot. Didn't turn up, no contact, couldn't track on their site, sat around in an empty property for 5 hours waiting! No apology afterwards, no voluntary suggestion of delivering on another day! No customer service. Cancelled order. Re-ordered from Dusk Furniture. What a difference. They are brilliant.
Purchased a new kitchen off Ikea "Doesn't last"
Purchased a new kitchen off Ikea which came with a 25 year guarantee. After 10 years one of the doors was delaminating and part of the lower skirt had fallen off. The panel on the front of the dishwasher also kept falling off. I called Ikea and after 3 attempts and being on hold each time for over 30 minutes i was given a reference number. I had to take pictures which i sent in along with the reference number. Several weeks went by and no contact so i called again. Basically they said they had never received the photos so i sent them again and again and again. After another month or so of being ignored i sent them an email stating on the phone you had confirmed by kitchen had a 25 year guarantee and i have been ignored for long enough so you have 7 days to get in touch. I then receive this email stating "After reviewing your photographs and assessing the issue, we have found that the issues are caused by wear and tear rather than a manufacturing fault". There is no wear on the door that is delaminating and the part of the kitchen that has literally just fallen off is in a position where it cannot even be touched! All i would say is i will never buy anything else off Ikea. And i would advise anyone to think carefully before they spend thousands of pounds with them. I will now be speaking with citizens advise, trading standards etc. There customer care is SHOCKING!
Potential customers, beware!
The rug I ordered for £59 contains a faulty or manufacturing defect. i contated the customer services for which i was told the fault is not visible. No offer to return or exchange. Unhelpful dissapointing service.
The meatballs were bangin
The meatballs were banging and the kitchens were cool. Bought some frozen meatballs for my son, Niall and they were yummy. Customer service was great and the worker was fit
I recently purchased several glass…
I recently purchased several glass items from IKEA, including drinking glasses and glass bowls. Unfortunately, the experience has been unnecessarily frustrating because of the paper labels attached to the products.
The labels are difficult to remove and leave behind stubborn adhesive residue. I have had to soak the glassware in soapy water and spend extra time trying to remove the labels before the items can even be used.
These are everyday household products, and customers should not have to struggle with stubborn stickers just to prepare their purchases for use. The labels should be designed to peel off easily without leaving sticky residue, or IKEA should use a more suitable labelling method.
What should have been a simple and pleasant shopping experience has turned into an annoying cleaning task. This may seem like a small issue, but when purchasing multiple items, it becomes a real inconvenience.
IKEA needs to improve the quality of its product labels and consider the customer experience beyond the point of sale. A product should be ready to use without requiring unnecessary effort to remove its packaging labels.
I hope IKEA takes this feedback seriously and improves its labelling practices.
This is the absolute worst
This is the absolute worst, most rubbish company—this is the second time this has happened to me. I previously bought a bed from them, and they intentionally sent screws that were the wrong size, forcing me to call an installer again. Now, with this TV stand, I’m facing the same issue: the screws don’t fit the holes. I am absolutely furious. They do this with complete disregard and disrespect, and I am definitely returning this item to them tomorrow.
An absolute shambles of a company
I ordered a delivery for next day, and nothing showed up. No update from Ikea or DPD. I've made several calls (and spent more that 3 hours on hold) and here we are 4 days later, and it's finally been established that IKEA gave DPD a parcel with no address details, and DPD accepted it, and then lost it. Ikea said the quickest solution was to place a new order. Now I'm trying to recover postage.
At no point has either company done anything proactive, and at every stage it's taken me calling them to prompt some sort of next step to be taken.
As others have said they also experienced, multiple times Ikea tried to hide behind the small print that says what they call next day delivery can take upto 3 days.
What an absolute shambles both of these companies are.
Sadly after 5 years our Bodbyn Ikea…
Sadly after 5 years our Bodbyn Ikea kitchen turned yellow. Cardiff staff were shocked by the discolouration, but corporate Ikea refused to honour its 25 Year Guarantee, citing 'wear and tear'. Disgusted. Won't use Ikea again for a kitchen, nor will the hundreds of people who have seen the pictures of our kitchen, pictures which show our doors up against a new, same style, door. We ordered white, not custard cream. Cleaned properly and no direct sunlight (inside cupboard doors also turned yellow, how can Ikea blame the sun?). Corporate con artists, with no conscience. Avoid if you value your home.
Absolutely abysmal returns process
Do not waste your time buying online with this company, impossible to return small items by post. Horrible clunky process that doesn't work and as for the help line aaargghh
