Beware of Iberia Air

What a debacle and not what we needed to start or finish our holiday!!!

We usually travel BA, and as part of the journey to Colombia, BA code share with Iberia Air (not a good decision in my opinion, having just flown Iberian Air)!

We booked our tickets via travel agency in August last year, we fully paid for the flights so we could reserve the seats we wanted for the LHR to Madrid and especially for the long haul flight Madrid to Bogota and the same for the return flights too. We went onto BA prepaid to reserve our seats and were then taken through to Iberia Air to do the same which we did for the remaining three flights.

Rolling forward now, to Check In day 4th Feb 2025, went to check in (slightly later than we would normally do (11 hours later than check in opens). The LHR to Madrid was fine all seats correct, but next leg, we had been changed to different seats. No change of plane and no explanation. We contacted Customer Services, who told us we needed to phone back in two hours and it would be sorted. We phoned back in two hours and were told that they could see our seats were 43A & 43B (our prepaid reservation - window and middle seat - our preferred option) and that even though we could only see the reassigned seats (two aisle seats), they assured us that we definitely were in 43A & 43B and told us it would be sorted when we got to the airport. We didn't believe them and we were right not to, total liars!!! I am sure we were told that, just to get us off the phone. We arrived at LHR and there was nothing they could do, the plane was full and we had to take the two assigned seats. We were furious. We contacted customer service and they told us to go to the Iberia Air stand when we got to Madrid to get them sorted. When we arrived in Madrid we went to the Iberia Air Stand and were told, 'we can't do anything and we don't know anything as we don't work for Iberia Air'!!!!! But you are on the Iberia Air stand, 'yes but we don't work for Iberia Air'!!!! No-one cares and no-one can tell you anything it is so frustrating. We asked them 'Have the people that have been put in our seats paid for those seats?' the answer was 'we don't know we can't tell you'. Iberia air if you sold the seats we paid for to someone else that is absolutely shocking!!! Taking money for seats already purchased ... not even going there. If you are reading this DO NOT TRUST IBERIA AIR!!! Think twice about flying with them too! The only solution we had was to get a refund for the seats we had purchased. When we got to the gate we said again we were not happy to sit in the aisle seats and were told there was nothing that could be done and the guy walked off and wouldn't engage with us. Another lady came to the gate stand so we went to speak to her and she said that there were two seats left (window and aisle - not in the location we preferred) but we accepted because it was better than two aisle seats where you get knocked and bumped as people walk by. I now know why those seats were still available - because the window seat was BROKEN and the fact that they were happy to put us in broken seats ... again is shocking! This is NOT good customer service or good practice!!

Roll forward to home time, 24 hours before check in, went onto the Iberia Air App, confirmed our seats hadn't been changed both flights were as we had paid for them (43A & 43B and 8E & 8F), so all good. Checked in as soon as Check In opened ... Boarding passes come off - Bogota to Madrid (long haul) seats assigned SBY & SBY and 8E & 8F. I won't swear, but you can imagine what our exact thought was!!! Contacted Customer Service - told 'We can't do anything now you have checked in'. But we only checked in because in the App we could see we were assigned the correct seats of 43A & 43B!!!! I then went onto X (previously Twitter) to make a complaint and Customer Services made contact and after sending numerous documents - proof of payment of seats, proof of the Iberia App showing the seat numbers before check in, the boarding passes with the assigned seating SBY, we were eventually sent new boarding passes with the seats we had paid for - this however took 8 hours to resolve on our last evening. This is not a good way to start or end a holiday. This was so stressful.

Iberia Air really need to get their act together. Why when you prepay for a seat and there has been no plane change do you not honour those seats??? Explanation from someone somewhere within Iberia Air that knows please!!!

Why does no-one know the answer??? It's ridiculous a total shambles!

Iberia refuses to pay legal compensation for overbooking

Iberia has been ignoring my rightful compensation for overbooking for more than 45 days, despite European law (Regulation (EC) 261/2004) requiring payment within one month.

My flight (IB0243 – January 2, 2025) was overbooked, and I was promised €600 in compensation.
I submitted my bank details on January 2, but Iberia keeps sending generic responses and refuses to give a clear payment date.

Their customer service is completely unresponsive, repeating the same automated replies to avoid paying.

I have now filed a formal complaint with AESA and will take legal action if this continues.

If you ever experience overbooking or delays with Iberia, be prepared for a long battle to get what they legally owe you. This is completely unacceptable for a company that claims to care about its customers.

🚨 Avoid Iberia if you expect fair treatment and customer support.

Un servicio basura y nos engañan.
Pagué una tarifa más alta para tener la flexibilidad de cambiar de vuelo si lo necesitaba.
Lo necesitaba, fui a la página web, había varios precios diferentes, elegí un vuelo con una diferencia de tarifa de 77 euros, pagué, mi banco me lo confirmó. Después de que el banco lo confirmara, apareció un mensaje en la página web de Iberia diciendo que se estaba analizando el proceso y que debía esperar 24 horas para tener noticias, y me dieron un número de reserva temporal.
Mi vuelo original es en menos de 27 horas, llamé para pedir que me lo confirmaran y no me lo pudieron confirmar. Entonces les pedí que emitieran un nuevo vuelo, según las condiciones de la página web, pero no es posible. Para hacer una nueva reserva por teléfono, la tarifa es de 895 euros, casi el precio que pagué originalmente en su totalidad por el mismo vuelo, que en la aplicación es de 77 euros.
Es absurdo, porque en la página web y en la aplicación las condiciones son diferentes, pero no lo hacen.
He pagado la tarifa flexible para nada, porque no es efectiva.

Die Internetseite von Iberia kann man…

Die Internetseite von Iberia kann man vergessen. Ständig bekomme ich Newsletter von Iberia,mit Angeboten,etc. Will ich mich in mein Konto einloggen,geht das nicht. Es erscheint ständig die Fehlermeldung,dass ich keinen Zugang zu Iberia habe.Was soll das? In Zukunft werde ich diese Airline wohl meiden. So ein Generve brauche ich nicht!

Gepäckverspätung ohne Info - keine Kontaktmöglichkeit

Wien - Schwechat. Zwischenstop Madrid und unser Gepäck kommt nicht mit. Iberia informiert uns zwar darüber nach Ankunft, doch das Gepäck kommt erst weit nach dem informierten Nachsendezeitraum im Hotel an. Keine weitere Information. Über die IB Homepage gibt es NULL Möglichkeiten, tatsächlich ein Feedback abzusenden. DANKE!!!

keine Reklamation möglich bei Buchung von Sitzplätzen

sehr unfreundliche Mitarbeiterin am Telefon in Frankfurt! mein Problem: 1. lange nicht geflogen, noch nicht online check-in gemacht. Also google ich zuerst Iberia lege mir erst mal ein Kundenkonto an und geh dann zu meinen Flügen und kuck mir die Sitze an. Reserviere dann 2x XL für total 110.-/ 2. ich durchlaufe den Check-in Prozess und sehe, aha, hier sind gute Sitzplätze ohne Aufpreis verfügbar - ich buche diese, in der Annahme dass ich die Zahlung von vorher stornieren kann....3. ich versuche die Zahlung von 110.- zu stornieren - keine Chance! 4. ich durchlaufe den Prozess der Reklamation. 5. kein Ergebnis.
Die Lehre daraus: bucht keine Sitze gegen Aufpreis ohne Check -in - ihr kriegt das Geld NIE zurück.... und man behandelt euch nicht freundlich...

Iberia Airlines Business Class is non existent and is a joke!

Business Class is non existent, British Airways Economy is better than Iberia Airlines Business Class. The seats were cramped and three seats! Not even the usual two seats for BA Premium Economy! We stood outside the plane as they were cleaning it because of the quick turnaround. The plane arrives you can literally see the passengers alighting and next minute you are waved through and made to stand outside the plane as it is been cleaned. The trays in front of me had wine and coffee stains because the cleaners did not have enough time to wipe them down. I've got pictures. The flight was delayed by an hour because it arrived late, the pilot did not even bother to apologise for the delay when we got onboard.

Très mauvaise expérience avec cette…

Très mauvaise expérience avec cette compagnie pour un vol au départ de Barcelone. A cause d’embouteillages nous avons raté l’enregistrement de 3 mns, ok de notre faute, on assume pour l’aller. Le personnel au sol très désagréable, d’aucune utilité. Nous avons demandé si nous pouvions toutefois embarquer sans nos bagages puisque nous avions fait le Check in en ligne, impossible, seule réponse : appelez Iberia mais plus tard car fermé à 7h du matin ! Nous avons repayé un billet aller au prix très très fort pour un vol 14h plus tard après avoir contacté Iberia par téléphone car même pas un stand à l’aéroport. Mais ce n’est pas fini : 24h avant notre retour, après avoir fait le Check in en ligne, on reçoit un mail nous disant que nous n’avons plus de billet valable pour le retour car nous n’avions pas pris le vol aller initial.
Étant loin, impossible de joindre quelqu’un par téléphone, seul moyen de contact whatsapp en anglais. Seule solution : repayer des billets retour. Et au prix très très très fort. Ils profitent du désarroi des clients. Du coup on a pris des billets avec une autre compagnie pour le même vol, 2 fois moins chers. Aucun recours au retour. Même pas le remboursement des taxes d’aéroport.
Nous avons tenté de contacter des organismes de défense de consommateurs et d’usagers mais étant une compagnie étrangère avec vol au départ de Barcelone, personne n’a pu nous aider. Résultat + 3200 € sur notre budget vacances pour le transport aérien.
Plus jamais Iberia, des voleurs et profiteurs. Désormais je partirai de France !!!

Before I wrote this review I had never…

Before I wrote this review I had never looked at any reviews of IBERIA. We flew as a family of 3 to London from Lima,Via Madrid, on arrival at London terminal 5 we waited like lemons for nearly an hour waiting for cases to arrive. Not once did any one approach the carousel to tell us , sorry but your luggage hasn't made it to London. On filling out a form we made it to our hotel close to Heathrow, where we were staying for 3 nights before heading North for Christmas and more importantly my Dads very special 90th Birthday.
At this stage we fully expected our luggage to turn up the next day , however only one of 3 23KG cases turned up , so another night to Tesco in Cranford to buy essentials.
With out going into this to much the 2 missing cases turned up at my dads house 25 days late, however this was to late for my wife and nephew, as they had traveled to Belgium to see family , so they actually didn't see there case until they arrived back in the UK the day before we flew back to Peru.
Customer service did not keep in touch at all, but when I called they were mostly very pleasant and understanding, but they were more interested in at the end of the call me rating there call.
I never had confidence in the way my problems were dealt with. Unlike other reviews I have read the flight staff were as good, I would say the service received at Heathrow was OK but you got the feeling they were fed up with problems of Missing cases from Madrid.
In the end all our receipts for essential items came to £750, probably a third less than it should have been because we mislaid some receipts, I think with all the extra expenses we had, my total cost would be around £1400
They came back to me quickly enough and after a couple of hours they offered £600, I was gobsmacked and after a few emails they eventually agreed the £750. I still wasn't happy because of the extra costs I had incurred due to the lost cases. I even had to buy extra luggage cases and then purchase of IBERIA the extra baggage allowance which they would have had a record of this. NO nothing more than what essentials we had to buy.
I was so fed up I had a think over the weekend and just agreed the £750, and even though they said they have paid it into my bank account it could take up to a month, I was pleased when I had the money in my account the next day, this I can not complain about.
The whole experience was very stressful and I would never do this route again with them.Iberia you have a lot of issues and unfortunately I will never be using you again, you are part of IAG and I now understand why BA is now not a great airline also. Horrible Experience with this , that should have been made much better by paying proper compensation and list to the Clients.

Har fløy i over 30 år med forskjellige…

Har fløy i over 30 år med forskjellige flyselskaper, uten dårlig opplevelser, med denne gangen brukte vi Iberia. Det forsvant en ekstra klokke min man hadde med seg i bagasjen, plus en stor flaske med Magnesium kapsler til egen bruk, under denne turen. Så det er våre erfaring med dette flyselskap.

Fraudulent Airline, ECC advise against them

Argentina has a taxation law regarding foreign currency. Which means if paying for excess luggage at the airport, you have to pay the fee + 7,5 percent on top of this amount.

I have been to 16 countries with my dog, on 42 planes, and never experienced this fee to be paid at the airport though. It is paid for either through the app or through phone.

When I checked in at EZE, Buenos Aires, heading for Madrid, they charged 67 percent tax. Which means Iberia put 59,5 percent in their own pockets. 210 USD, which is their current fee for dog in cabin, turned into 340 USD.

It's been impossible to ask for a refund, as you only get no-reply, AI-generated answers on your claim.

I've sent a complaint to ECC, and have also reported them to Policia Federal in Buenos Aires, which answered they take this very seriously.

This is an excerpt from the email I received from ECC (European Consumer Centre):

Hello,

I understand your frustration. Unfortunately, this is not the first time I have dealt with complaints against Iberia. We must have tangible evidence that their arguments are incorrect, so that we do not have to send the case back and forth from the Spain office.

I will let you know when I have sent the case over for evaluation at our cooperation office in Spain. Unfortunately, our experience with Iberia is bad, both in the form of them taking a long time to respond and of them trying all possible arguments on why they are not at fault.

Catastrophique

Catastrophique, de la nourriture de taulard servi avec une aigreur inégalable ! Siège le moins confortable que je n’ai jamais eu en voyageant dans 6 compagnies différentes. Personnel pas du tout arrangeant (limite condescendant) ! Pas d’eau ou quelconque boisson pendant 9 heures consécutives. Je ne recommande absolument pas l’expérience.

Stay away from Iberia Airlines - not fit for purpose

I would strongly recommend you avoid Iberia at all costs. Given BA does not fly to Quito, they outsource the route to Iberia. Two hour delay in Quito last night for unexplained “maintenance” then an unscheduled fueling stop in Santo Domingo. Therefore i missed my connection in Madrid to London and of course my bag failed to make it to London either. All-in, 24 hour trip door-to-door and still not clothes, toiletries or electrics. Hard to believe.

Dos personas no pudieron llegar a su destino el día previamente prometido por la aerolínea debido a un retraso causado por la aerolínea. No sólo hubo un retraso, sino que los viajeros no llegaron a su destino hasta un día entero después. Al principio, el personal los ignoró y las personas que los llamaron fueron groseras y nada serviciales. Era casi medianoche y los viajeros estaban muy agotados y al final de sus fuerzas. Sólo el personal del mostrador ofreció una solución en una fase tardía. Tuvieron que esperar un transbordador que los llevó a un hotel desconocido. Sin embargo, el viajero tenía jornada laboral al día siguiente. No pudo anunciar su retraso a esa hora y, a regañadientes, tuvo que decepcionar a sus colegas. Además, debido a su ausencia involuntaria, no pudo asistir a un curso de capacitación de medio día en su empresa. Ahora tenía que compensar sus ausencias tomándose un día de vacaciones. Y por parte de Iberia, ninguna oferta de indemnización adecuada por los daños.

Chaotischer Check-In

Ich hattee 25H und 26H gebucht und dafür auch bezahlt; trotzdem wurden mir Online einfach Plätze zugewiesen und der Check-In durchgeführt ohne das ich das veranlasst hatte. Es hieß immer Check-In nicht möglich.
Außerdem musste ich immer wieder meine Daten eingeben und es ging beim Online Check-In nichts weiter; immer wieder erschien eine Error-Meldung!
Warum läuft bei der IBERIA nie etwas normal?

Perhaps the world’s worst airline !!!

Perhaps the world’s worst airline !!! My booking NCTTA2 turned into a nightmare. Flights were all not provided by Iberia but their alliance partners Qatar and Vueling. Delayed 3 leg outgoing flight due to technical issues, 1 hour 2 mins delayed return Qatar flight SIN to DOH made me miss my Qatar flight to AGP. They then put me on a flight to BCN where I have a wait time of 5 hours. No refreshments provided, no apologies. I will never use Iberia or Qatar ever again.

estafadores no cumplen con las normativas de union europea

El pasado 27/09/2024 sufrí la cancelación de mi vuelo n IB6841 en Madrid barajas de regreso a Buenos Aires, lo cual me ocasiono un perjuicio enorme. El día 25/10/2024 procedí a reclamar a la compañía aérea IBERIA SA por su página web la cual me contesta que lamenta mucho el inconveniente y me informan que van a pagarme por dicha cancelación la suma de 600 euros por transferencia bancaria por lo cual envié toda la documentación al respecto para que me abonen dicho importe, El día 28/10/2024 me contestan que en un plazo de 30 días hábiles me abonarían el monto ya expuesto, Pasado ya el límite que IBERIA IMPUSO vuelvo a reclamar ,La contestación es tuvieron una incidencia y que me pagarían dentro de una semana y un mes la verdad ya estoy cansado de que me mientan y mientan por ese motivo envió mi denuncia a ustedes que son el ente que puede interceder en este asunto. La referencia del caso es la siguiente.
mi reserva del vuelo es 3496y4/lzrq5 espero poder cobrar lo que me corresponde ya que la compañía a faltado a los tratados de la unión europea en su conjunto desde ya muchas gracias y esperando una respuesta favorable los saludo ya pasaron 90 dias último momento me bloquearon el teléfono para que no reclame más impresentables es una compañía truchas ojalá se funda son lo peor de lo peor ......
