Gray line don't pick you up in a Gray line coach so look out for a green bus!

Unfortunately for me I only read these bad reviews after waiting for a Golden Circle tour bus at 9.30 am that didn't turn up. At bus stop number 6 Reykjavik Sat 30th March. I walked down the street to the office and told the guy who worked there that I was there from 9.25am till 10.50am. He said others had been picked up so I must have missed it. He booked me on the 11.30 the same day. I was there from 11.15 till 12.15.He said to look out for the Gray line bus. No bus of that description turned up. Looking at these other reviews it looks like they send a green smart bus but don't tell you that, and the driver obviously can't be bothered to shout out your name. Yeah amazing customer service. I don't understand why they don't tell you in the pick up time and place email to check with the driver of any green bus that arrives. After reading these reviews I haven't bothered to try and get my money back. After reading about the green bus I had a trip booked from months ago, again with Gray line a few days later which was South Iceland and a green bus turned up, not a Gray line bus but the driver shouted my name! It then took me to the bus depot where the Gray line bus was waiting. So why on earth do they not explain that it's a green bus that will pick you up not a Gray line coach, instead there are lots of unhappy disappointed customers

TERRIBLE COMPANY

Same as many other reviews, took our money, bus did not arrive, company claims bus did arrive as others got on bus so it's our fault. Usually tour companies call customers names out or which company they are from. Not this one if you don't walk along all the waiting coaches, which there are many, and ask every driver if they are the right one then they leave without you, if they did turn up in the first place.
No refund.
Please look at the other tour companies before using this one.
Spoiled last day of our short break, which we had hoped to make the most of the short time we had in Iceland.

We booked a golden circle tour with Gray Line Iceland even after reading their bad reviews but we wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, we then confirmed pick up from our hotel. On the day we arrived 30 minutes early before pick up to ensure we were on time, after waiting another hour no bus labelled Gray Line showed up. We then decided to call customer services, the woman on the phone said that a green bus had supposedly arrived for us, the whole time we were there, the only bus that showed up was a bus that had a “Northern Lights” sign on it and also said “Airport Transfer” we also could see no Gray Line label on this bus. Obviously we didn’t get on the bus as we booked a golden circle tour not a Northern lights tour or airport transfer. Our names were not called out by any drivers. So the woman said that we could either rebook the tour for the next day or could email and get a refund, after emailing Gray Line, I have had repetitive sarcastic replies from the customer service manager who is refusing us a refund as apparently the bus turned up, I have made the point of saying, it doesn’t matter if the bus turned up, why would we get on a bus that was labelled completely incorrectly and didn’t call out our name? We wanted a golden circle tour not airport transfer like it said! I have never experienced such awful customer service in my life. He showed 0 care for our situation and when I addressed my issues I was completely ignored. After replying once again trying to state my points, I discovered they had blocked my emails!! How unprofessional and nasty of them, to steal money from people and then block them. I will be taking this up with higher services as it is no way acceptable. Listen to my advice and DO NOT book with Gray Line, book with a much better company like Special tours Iceland and don’t make the same mistake we did. Shame on you Gray Line

Disgusting company

Disgusting company. Don't book through these at all not through travelhouse etc. Let my 70 year old mother and 2 friends out in minus temperatures in January for over an hour and when they rang they said no bus was coming for them as they should be on the bus that they were refused on because it was full apparently. Now to add insult they are refusing a refund. Think these and the 3rd parties involved are all corrupt. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE

AVOID. CRIMINALS THIS LOT!!!

This tour company doesn’t use its coaches to pick you up. It uses unmarked minibuses instead.

So there I was, at the bus stop for an hour. Standing there in minus 7 in a bitterly cold wind. I arrived 15 mins early. No coach came. I phoned them and they said they would refund me. No refund. Emailed them and now they are saying they came in a green smart minibus and waited 3 mins. All I can have is a free trip if I visit again. How would I know to get on a bus labelled SMART??? The driver didn’t even try to find me and they said they waited for a whole 3 mins!

No where on the booking does it say you wouldn’t be picked up by their white tour coach with their blue logo in it - look out for a green smart minibus. On a different day they used an orange airport bus. Confusing or what! If they are going to do that, it should say on the booking. All it says on booking is bus stop 12 8.30.

This is outrageous. I rushed breakfast and got to the bus stop extra early. No one asked me if I should have been on that green bus. That’s normal. The drivers normally look for missing people. They didn’t bother. During my hours wait all the other drivers got out the buses and called out peoples names. They didn’t. To promise me a refund on the phone and go back on that is even worse. They do this all the time. I was on their airport transfer bus back to the airport and it came over the radio that 2 people were missing. Just go they said!

AS THEY DONT REFUND ANYONE, THEY JUST DONT GIVE A DAMN. WHY WOULD THEY AFTER THEY HAVE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY!! THEFT! HOWEVER YOU LOOK AT THIS, TO PAY FOR A TRIP YOU DIDNT GO ON. TO BE REFUSED A REFUND AFTER THEY PROMISED IT, IS THEFT! TO NOT GET WHAT YOU PAID FOR IS THEFT! Looking at other reviews this outfit do it all the time.

This company ruined my birthday holiday. I spent that morning in tears in my hotel room. I booked that holiday just to go on that trip and I didn’t get to do it. I was only there for 2 whole days and not going on this trip left me with nothing to do for the whole day - half my holiday. Birthday ruined. Holiday ruined. No fond memories at all. THE WORST HOLIDAY I HAVE EVER HAD AND MY FIRST IN 5 YEARS TOO. Ruined by this cowboy outfit! I basically spent £1000 on one day trip! My jobs low paid. This trip was more than a disaster because of them.

DO NOT BOOK ANYTHING WITH THIS COMPANY!!!

Bus Travel Iceland, Reykjavík travel all use clearly labelled buses and coaches. Use them instead. Please!

EasyJet use this lot for airport transfer. That wasn’t great either. All the other transfer buses left and we were still there. Left an hour after them. That coach said Blue Lagoon all over it. People got on it thinking that was where it was going - why wouldn’t they? On the way back the driver left my suitcase in the street. Luckily I noticed or would have arrived without it. TERRIBLE ALL ROUND!

THEY REALLY NEED TO USE CLEARLY LABELLED BUSES AND COACHES AND REFUND THIE CUSTOMERS WHEN THEY STUFF UP. Not RIP THEM OFF!

Never known a company like it. Worst I’ve ever come across!

Looking at reviews from other sites, this is regular practice. Take your money. Don’t bother to pick you up and refuse refund. It’s outrageous. Someone needs to take action against them because me by myself can’t. They just point blank keep your money. THEFT!! SCAM. Whatever you label it.

pathetic service

pathetic service, we booked a tour and we were Waiting and they left....customer service is like bots with zero understanding....and there were 4 other people with us who were left stranded and day wasted and money was also not refunded...do not book gray line and get your guide is their partner in crime...please avoid these two

Please, do not choose Grey Line

It was obviously cloudy and still they didn't cancel as they promised in their page. The guide talked about Northern Lights for 5 minutes and then started rambling about Volcanos, Icelandic exports and her own childhood. PLEASE CHOOSE ANY OTHER TOUR

DO NOT BOOK VIA VIATOR OR GRAYLINE! Hotel transfer to Reyjavik airport. Awful service. Ticket via Viator said pick up was from 7.00-7.45 despite booking a 7.00am slot!! As did all correspondence and barcode ticket sent via the App. Transfer still hadn’t arrived by 7.45 despite waiting in the cold with 3 children. Consequently incurred a £200 taxi fare to get to the airport. This was immensely stressful as our flight was at 10.20! Taxi driver provided all receipts and acknowledged that this is appalling service and that GRAYLINE should refund!! Needless to say they have refused a refund as they say email was sent to say we had to be there 30minutes before at 6.30am!!! However this was never sent!! They have refused any refund!! Similarly Viator have not responded to any emails despite they act as the middle person in this transaction!! Looking to seek guidance now via Icelandic Tourist Board to prevent other travellers having this problem.

Very poor service

Very poor service. Waited and waited and no vehicle arrived to collect us. Rang the company twice - very rude customer service. Day was ruined. Would not recommend.

Avoid this Company

This is the worst tour I was ever on. The issues began with a 20-minute delay in the bus's arrival at STOP 12, there was chaos at the bus stop as people tried to identify what tour company, they were travelling with to see the Northern Lights. While I understand this was not the fault of the bus crew, it set the tone for a disappointing experience.
Upon reaching our destination Thingvellir National Park Service Centre, at 21:34 the real problems unfolded. We were required to walk in total darkness on an uneven pebble path with frost on it to a viewing place in the middle of a field. Subsequently, we endured nearly two hours of extreme cold and darkness, with no sightings of the Northern Lights. The weather that night was zero degrees or below. The guide seemed preoccupied with the volcanic situation, providing an unintended lesson on volcanos.
What concerned me most was the lack of consideration for passengers' safety. The decision to return to the bus meant walking back on the same unstable path in complete darkness, posing a serious risk. Simple precautions, such as providing hi-vis jackets and torches, could have mitigated this danger at minimal cost.
The overall experience was not only disappointing but also potentially hazardous. Imagining justifying bringing 65 people into such conditions is unsettling.

Booked airport transfer bus of Grey Line Iceland, booked over Viator, for 03:00 AM did not come, waited from 02:30 till 03:30 then took a taxi. So VIATOR also not recommended. Never again!

A complete scam.

You would think a tour starting at 10am for 7 hours would finish at 5pm. We got told by the guide after the bus had set off that the tour wouldnt finish until after 5.30 which was our latest back on board time for our Cruise ship. They took us back to the terminal.

The ts and cs say they GUARANTEE getting you back to the ship ON TIME. Our 1 and only day in Reykjavik was ruined.

We then went into the Grey Line office in Reykjavik and the woman at the desk said it was not Grey Lines problem and we hadnt taken into account there would be a half hour extra for pick up and a half hour extra for drop off!! ( not mentioned in the advertisement)

We are seasoned cruise travellers and have used independant companies all over the World but this is the first time we have been swindled.

Of course we arent going to book a tour that will leave us on the quayside as our ship sails into the distance, we are not stupid.

We were not the only ones who were cheated by these people whos advertising is at least misleading and at worst a downright scam.

My advice is do not trust a word they say.

Terrible company

Terrible company. We booked Into the Volcano in Iceland. Paid over $600,00 for this tour. Arrived early for the pick-up at City Hall. Three other people were also waiting at the same location. The driver never arrived. Called the office and the clerk said the driver was there and left and we were a no show. The driver never showed. Why would we and three other people paid good money and not show for a pick-up. Clerk said it wasn't the driver responsible to call out narnes for the pick-up.
After much argument we were finally able to get rebooked. But the other three people weren't able to get rebooked and no refund. When the tour ended gray line failed to show up to transport the group back. The company had to call Gray Line several times to have a driver to come back and get twelve people and take them back to their hotels.

We have been told to be picked up 4 different places at 4 different busterminals by the employees. At last we get them to write an e-mail where it says we have to walk 1,6 km. We have heavy baggage and I’m pregnant. This is not at all where we got dropped off.
When we called Gray Line up we spoke with the shift manager Ola who hung up our call and spoke in a very bad tone and kept interrupting!!!!!! She did not want to listen at all, all she could say was that we could pay 8 euros pr. person.
I’m so angry! Cheaters!

Never showed up, told us we were never there. LIARS.

Never showed up. Our departure time was listed as 7am, our pickup time was 30 minutes prior. So we played it extremely safe and turned up at 6:25. At 7am after no sign of anyone turning up we called, for them to tell us not only had it left but it had been gone. Which was a blatant lie as we had been there since before they should have turned up. We clarified the day before with ‘Gabriela’ our time at bus stop. What a joke of a company, is going to cost us north of £100 to get to the airport. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Highly recommend

Went with gray line Iceland for the northern lights tour and wow! Magical! They took the time with you to make sure you had the best chance of seeing the northern lights and even pulled over when they saw stronger ones on the way back. Very knowledgeable.

don’t use gray line for airport transfers

We used Gray Line for our airport transfer when leaving Reykjavik. We were given an 830am pickup for an 1120 flight (40mins drive) which we thought would be fine if there weren’t too many stops. After being collected at 840 we then we’re driven to the bus hostel where we stayed until 9:25am. We needed to be at the airport 2 hours before (9:20am) but the driver just stood there waiting for ages to see if anyone else fancied getting on. This caused a lot of stress for us which is unnecessary and unwanted at the end of a holiday. We got to the airport and had to rush through the airport as our flight was boarding as soon as we got there. Don’t use this company for airport transfers unless you’ve got a lot of time to play with.
