I can confirm this is a scam. Domain names are fake and not owned by you.

Domains that are doing well are blocked for no reason, support does not respond. Never use it! Get a real domain for $1/year at Namecheap instead (not sponsored). The customer support there is much better. In my experience, they (Namecheap) respond within less than an hour and are very knowledgeable (I contacted them 2 times). Freenom support on the other hand doesn't even write back. The blocked domains are now used for advertising purposes to trap my site visitors into expensive contracts. Do NOT get a domain there. It is a total scam!

There is a problem. Their servers are sometimes down. For example at the time of writing this review "my.freenom.com" is down which means that I can't manage my domains. Their nameserver is awful, and the only reason I am using it is because the domains are free and you know, nothing is like free. I am using Cloudflare as the nameserver but they work great together, and since the only interaction I have with the domain after I register it is via Cloudflare so it is fine. Though when you are trying to change the nameservers or something else and what you have to do has to be done inside of Freenom, it is KILLING me when the freaking server is down. Literally Freenom, do something about it, get better servers.

Don't bother with this site for paid domains, the price is not worth it if you expect your paid domain to work as expected and be renewable properly. I have been a customer for a few years at this point and have had to contact their support about 10+ times with issues of their site having all manner of errors, and most recently when trying to renew they charged me but no renewal happened. When contacting staff I heard nothing for over 6 days until I started a paypal claim then within 30 minutes I started hearing back and they refunded the money and got two lectures not addressing my issue but claiming they cannot renew my domain name manually. So I attempted to renew again they once again charged me but no renewal happened, at this point I started to get really annoyed and did another paypal claim. Once again I hear back within about 30 minutes this time with a complete egotistical holier then thou speech and their passive aggressive attitude. Because how dare you be upset that they don't respond to support requests nearly at all or do their job when their site is broken. They will also try to gaslight you into being the bad guy even though they are an abusive as hell company. You are the one who is the abusive party if you contact them with minor irritation and they will not address your issue but lecture you with great big paragraphs instead. Then you get told that if you are so unhappy with their "service" they are happy to help you transfer your domains away with attitude and this little gem which I quote "In fact, we will have to insist." Which is great but don't expect them to actually help with the transfer when it conveniently is broken on your domain after contacting them.

If you are looking for a reputable company that will work without issue and actually help you when something does happen look anywhere else then here. Paypal disputes are the only way to get a response in a timely manner, or at all most times and the lectures of their only staff member, "René" who always seems to reply comes with every contact. That is of course if you get a reply at all, this company is a complete joke. I am now trying to transfer my domain out and go figure the transfer lock on it is giving me yet another server error that just says to keep trying again, so now I get to deal with their so called support yet again. Of course I have not heard back in days and have now done an ICAAN complaint and am hoping I can get to keep my domain name.

Updates: I also sent emails to every single address I could think of at both freenom.com and opentld.com. I did support, payments, abuse, domains, info, webmaster, variations of their ceos name, and more which still didn't get me anything but "tickets created we will get back to you within 24 hours" (HA) and an automated canned message unrelated to anything.

In the end I had to threaten legal pressure and to contact their local authorities once again to all the emails and through the ticket system for them to respond, 3 days later when my domain had hours before expiring to criticize me and lecture me about how their system is not complete garbage, which was me being polite their system is a dumpster fire. They also then tell me they had to contact a tech associate to try and unlock my domain name and once again told me to transfer it and they will shutdown my account, which I never requested but I will gladly have this account cease to exist. They tried to excuse all the errors with an "API error" and lecturing that I didn't use their API right. Which is funny because I was using their website, that they made, not any direct API with all of this. I even did try all manner of their APIs when they wouldn't reply and the API does not allow you to unlock a domain name. Nothing worked, all their staff (since I finally got a reply from a different one) are all egotistical abusive scum that do nothing to address your issues but rather criticize you personally and lecture you for being a paying customer that expects them to respond to requests and to resolve errors on their end. DONT BOTHER WITH THIS COMPANY ANYWHERE IS BETTER THEN HERE!

TIP: If you are so unfortunate to have a domain here unlock it and start the transfer to anyone else and if you get the emails confirming your transfer is pending go look at the API and send the transfer approve request to skip the 5 day wait time they pointless do without any way to approve it outside of API. The emails only have a reject button.

Run fast and run far this company is a complete dumpster fire, their staff are scumbags an conmen and a brain dead monkey would provide better customer support then this place. A server on fire would also have better uptime then them.

This is a useless company with no customer service. CS Tickets get closed automatically with no explanation, do not waste your money registering with this highly suspectful company!.

I was not believing any of these negative comments but now I am a victim of their fraud behavior. They just suspended my company domain registered under their free domain and informed as we violated their policy. Since last 2 year it was working with our company information website and we are running a reputed firm. There is no such violation or they are not even pointing what we have done? The domain was then pointed to a nude website which makes our company reputation to damage. When I asked them, they are asking for money otherwise it is not our botheration on suspended domain. The domain is still under registered period and they are demanding for money after keeping it suspended from us.

I realized that we have not done anything wrong and they were waiting for time to reach to make traffic to our website and then block the domain and ask for money. They will close the ticket without answering for questions or support we ask and a very rude behavior. It is really surprising me how can a service provider do like this to their customers.

They have made me false accusations and my support requests aren't correctly answered. Dispute resolution requests are not correctly answered, and neither personal data requests. I have never felt so badly treated by a company. The support is miserable. I will move as well any paid domains away from this company.

Redirects to a porn website

My just registered domain is redirecting to random PORN site?!!!! Seriously?

Freenom owns the rights to the .tk, .ga, .gq, etc. tlds that aren't very often used and advertise everywhere that they give these domains away for free. I've had a few domains from them, and they usually work totally fine. The dns system is good, works well, and is pretty fast. The issues come to how freenom works as a company. While they may be fine for a temporary free domain, make sure that your website name is.... not popular? I was making a little website using the domain tetris.gq, which, as you might know, is the name of a pretty popular game. Since it was the only one left that had only tetris in it, I was happy to be able to have gotten it. A few months later I come to find that the domain is no longer in my account, and is now redirecting to some scam page. They just took it from me presumably to someone else who was paying for it to be a scam or something. I wouldn't use them for anything serious.

Freenom is alright if you just want a domain name, but sometimes you have to do some extra searching to find a domain that loads quick.

Didn't notify me of domain expiry. When I tried to renew they took 4 days to generate the invoice which I immediately paid. They then took another day and half before attempting to reinstate the domain only to tell me it was deleted and could no longer be retrieved after I had paid.

Don't need to say more, just don't use it

2) cambiano alcune impostazioni (di domini a pagamento) senza autorizzazione, ad esempio il "Forward mode".
3) spesso i servizi si interrompevano, sito oscurato per problemi tecnici loro (se il sito è uso lavorativo sono probabili perdite di affari).
4) assistenza al cliente superficiale.

My website seemed to have some traffic and all of the sudden the domainname has expired (I never got the mails to renew) and I have to pay for it because they don't respond to my tickets. Eventually I call them, I get this nice helpful dude on the phone, but he can't help technically and/or financially. He tells me he's gonna send it to the boss René, but after months and lots of calls I never hear anything back and my domain and mail is lost... If you didn't have a domain here already, please but a domain elsewhere, it's less than 10 bucks and it will save you problems

Domain price is excellent compared to other services but that is the extent of their service.

They frequently ban free domains without providing any explanation. Anything you ask to their support will be answered in an arrogant tone.

If you are thinking of creating a domain registration service you can not trust a company like freenom.
