Good quality seconds
I bought some seconds (as well as neat elite box hinges) and requested that they be able to open at least to 90 degrees as I intended to use them on some initial test boxes I made that I didn't want to discard. The request was granted and I'm delighted with them - just some marks on the underside that won't be visible when the box is opened. Separate orders of hinges delivered promptly and correctly

Thank you Harry! (England) You're the best as always! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the FineBoxHardware Team :)
I’ve been using box hardware
I’ve been using box hardware, or as I like to call it “box jewelry “ for as long as I can remember. I’ve always used Fine Box Hardware from Ian and Kate Hawthorne. There hardware was designed by one of the most famous box makers out there, Ian himself. Coming from a box maker obviously the form and function are spot on and the fit and finish really sets these products apart which is why I call Fine Box Hardware hinges and full mortise locks and their accessories Box Jewelry! They keep coup with new products and continue to improve on their existing line of locks and hinges.
I can say with absolute certainty, after constructing almost 100 fine boxes for some very discerning clients, using Fine Box Hardware exclusively, that Ian and Kate produced the world’s finest box jewelry. Period. No if ands or buts.
I’m posting this because I’ve installed 10 new sets of their improved large stainless steel hinges which are the only large hinges out there by the way. I need the large hinges because my box tops have a significant weight to them. Their new design has much thicker leaves and a new knuckle design which makes them even better than the previous design which were perfect already. I also prefer the Stainless Steel, as do my clients and no one makes Stainless Steel but Fine Box Hardware. Don’t get me wrong the Brass versions are exquisite too and occasionally I’ll sneak in a few like I’m doing now as I craft 4 reproductions John Wick 4 dueling cases to match the cases I did for the movie albeit they will be a little different.
Bottom line: HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Get you some. Not paid for my endorsement…

Basic Box Making For A Very Elegant Box
I am an intermediate woodworker and have taken numerous courses at the Marc Adams School of Woodworking here in the US. I ordered Ian’s Box Kitz and have closely studied Ian’s 9 chapter assembly course on Youtube. The Box Kitz is a quality package ready for a beginner or intermediate to make an elegant box. Ian’s YouTube course is as good as anything I’ve seen in any course intensive with respect to simplicity and thoroughness. Ian’s box making process is loaded with small details and tips that cumulatively produce great results. Now I have to get busy making the darn thing and back up what I just wrote. RM.
