Good service
The sales assistant, Julie, is very engaging and helpful. I've had two deliveries of garden pots at an extremely reasonable rate and their selection of plants is expansive. Their rewards system is good too.

Beautiful relaxing experience
Beautiful pots, excellent size variety, species of plants I had not seen before and hadn’t been able to purchase. Good size space, Love the outside area. Ramp is quite steep, it was rainy the day I came in but it wasn’t slippery.

We order from all over australia to bring such a diverse range! That ramp is a bit steep but we have put rails and grip tape on it to make sure no one takes a tumble :)

Disappointed in the lack of communication between staff around birthday discount system
I have bought many plants and pots at Exotic Botanic since they started up in Modbury.
Unfortunately, I was disappointed with an interaction I had recently with the owner about their birthday discount.
I went into the store in mid-June to use my birthday discount before the expiry date. However, I couldn't use this discount because the store was having a 20% off sale which I wasn't aware of until i arrived. One of the employees at the checkout told me that I couldn't combine the two discounts (which is completely reasonable) and that I could instead use my birthday discount another day even if it meant it was passed the expiry date.
So, I made a trip to the store at the next earliest opportunity which was about 10 days after the expiry date. When I went up to pay and explained to the owner what the employee had told me, he said I could in fact not use my birthday discount since it was passed the expiry date. The owner also mentioned how the employee had no authority to promise me this. I felt bad as my intention was not to get the employee in trouble - she was actually really helpful and nice which is what made me want to go to the store again.
The way the owner handled this interaction was a little disappointing to me as I was not being unreasonable - just going by what I was told. I would have at least appreciated a "sorry" for the lack of communication between staff around this.

Hey Thanks for giving the time to leave us a review. Ill try and unpack this situation as best as i can.
Firstly thank you for your concern for our team member, I can assure you no one gets in trouble for matters like this our team are all amazing and mistakes happen plus i don't want them being grumpy 😂.
In regards to the employee having no authority to offer this alteration it wasn't a dig at the member, they quite literally have no authority (access) to update a birthday voucher. No one, including the owners have any override authority for system generated events. Unfortunately the voucher start and end date are fixed by our POS system.
On the busy sale day you came in there was likely a mix up in communication as our staff were running around like crazy trying to provide the best service to everyone all at once, it can get pretty hectic. The staff member may have assumed the voucher had a longer expiry date and that you would have time to come back on a future date.
We have a system in place for all special requests that requires we provide the customer a written confirmation of the request an end date and a signature from the responsible employee. We implemented this system to completely eliminate any errors in communication such as this one.
If we didn't do this we would be relying on sticky notes and human memory (which mine is terrible) to remember that a specific person has a specific request expiring on a specific date. With the volume of things we do this wouldn't be possible. We would also have no way to verify the request is authentic. This is what has led to this situation, Unfortunately there was no way for us to verify that you had a granted special request.
Apologies again for the mix up. We give an industry leading 3 weeks on our birthday vouchers to try and give everyone a fair go and as much time as possible to come in (Our team have even said 3 weeks is crazy and most places only give them a few days.)
Im happy you still got 20% off to celebrate your birthday and exotic botanics at the same time. You have given us some things to look at improving, perhaps it would be a good idea for us to put in the birthday voucher email that vouchers can't be used on our sale dates and that they won't be extended.
If you have any other ideas (or anyone reading this review) on how we can improve our systems we would love to hear them. We want everyone that visits our store to leave feeling better then when they came in!

Simple, clear responses to my questions with good advice (that wasn't too much trouble to give!) Prompt delivery of the two (olive) trees was also top shelf. Overall, just really easy to deal with...a lot to be said for good, old fashioned service.

Big variety of plants & pots. Long open hours. I just wish it's in CBD or delivery isn't $20+. 🙂

Thanks for the review. Freight is definitely expensive and we try to keep it as competitive as possible (We usually lose money on each delivery) but we love to offer it along with shipping to make it as easy as possible for our customers :)

The best plants place in the world
The service is always excellent, they always help me when I have doubts and what I should or shouldn't use on my plants.
The environment is beautiful and the plants have an excellent price and a lot of variety.
I don't buy elsewhere, only there!
