Buying a car is always slightly…

Buying a car is always slightly stressful. I found the whole experience to be easy and straightforward thanks to Paul who managed the sale smoothly and straightforward. All my questions were answered. I feel I have confidence that I have a good car with after sales advice should I have any more questions.
I would definitely buy from Eclipse again based on my positive experience.

Outstanding service

Outstanding service. Mark from Eclipse went above and beyond for me, even collecting myself and my daughter from the train station so I could collect my new vehicle. I simply can not find any faults! They answered phone calls promptly or called me straight back, answered any enquiries I had. I left feeling completely reassured and almost like we had made a friend! No hard sales, just polite friendly and extremely professional. I have no problems very recommended this company 👌 5* service all the way, and totally worth the 4 hour journey each way.... Thank you. I am so grateful I found a dealership that is genuine 🙏

Absolutely would not recommend buying a…

Absolutely would not recommend buying a car from here.
I bought a 'trade sale' Mercedes C Class for £2995. This car had failed an mot in February so was put in for a new mot in April when I agreed to buy the car. Once again it failed because the failures from the previous mot had not been repaired, which shocked me as they were there in plain black and white for everyone to see on the gov.uk mot history site. Check it out for yourself and you will see this. Car reg. KN61BSN.
So it went back to the workshop to get the serious defects repaired and was put through a re-test on the morning I was collecting the car.
So the serious defects were the parking brake efficiency below requirements, emissions exceed specified limit and rear sub frame corroded and seriously weakened.
I sat and waited for 2 hours at the car sales for the car to go for the re-test. My husband had to leave me there to go to work and I had a meeting to attend at 2pm. The car was brought to the sales at 12.30, I had a quick drive up the road and left.
The following morning I parked up on my daughters driveway, which has a slight incline. The parking brake failed which alarmed me, as this was meant to be repaired for the car to have passed it's mot. So I called the car sales and spoke to Paul, who we had dealt with from the beginning and explained what had happened. He told me they always advise to leave a car in gear anyway when you park up. I explained that this was dangerous and an mot failure, so couldn't understand why the car had passed the previous day. He then told me to contact him again on Monday to get the car booked in the workshop to be looked at.
I then decided to take the car to Halfords to get checked over as my doubts were starting to creep in about the mot. Halfords checked the car over and then told me NONE of the mot work had been done.
The handbrake was dangerous, the emissions still failed and the rear sub frame had just been painted black. Apparently this is a grey area with mot's because if the corrosion can't be seen then it can't be failed.
They advised me to get straight on to the car sales and tell them I wanted a refund.
I emailed Eclipse and told them exactly what had happened. They agreed to refund me the £2995 I paid for the car and the £90 fuel I had put in it. No quibbles at all...take that as good after service or they knew they had been caught out and didn't want a fuss...you decide.
For reference the garage that mot'd the car was MCS garage services at Fisher's Pond.
My advise to anyone considering buying a car from here would be to take it for an independent check.
Roy the owner may respond saying he has a different version of events, as I have seen in previous replies to 1 star reviews, but I can assure you this is exactly what happened and I have the email chain between myself and Paul that proves everything I have stated here.
And just to add...4 days after me returning the car it is back up for sale on their website and also on Autotrader for an extra £500! Makes me think they got the work done the minute I returned it (lose the evidence) and the £500 was the cost!

Yes I can confirm you bought a 2011 14 year old Mercedes from us having covered 158,859 miles at the point of delivery. This was clearly marked as a trade sale to clear but doesn’t mean that we would let it go out in an unsafe condition. Why would we do that? We sell 800 plus cars per year and wouldn’t risk it all just to sell one more whilst cutting corners.
To confirm for readers this car came to us on 24th February in part exchange. We advertised the car very cheaply as this is not our usual stock profile and advertised that it would come with a new independent MOT. We do not MOT any cars otherwise people would suggest we are doing this through rose tinted glasses.
Once you had put a deposit on the car we sent it for an MOT to see what was required. All MOT testers are real people and will advise differently on many aspects depending on how the car is on the day and of course some of these garages are looking for work to be able to create an invoice for works required.
The Mercedes failed on the following – Rear parking brake efficiency, exhaust emissions exceed specified limit, rear subframe corroded and a minor defect of nearside front anti rollbar joint dust cover deteriorated.
To remedy this we didn’t just do nothing which you are suggesting. We did in fact weld the rear subframe and then painted this with black rust inhibitor afterwards as is an industry standard. Don’t take my word for that you can see it online. We replaced the handbrake shoes, new rear backing plates as these were rusty, we replaced the nearside anti rollbar drop link and then took the car for a good run as it had sat around for a couple of weeks.
The result of the works done above meant that we got a re test that just showed an oil leak but not excessive on an otherwise clear MOT done independently.
You mention that the handbrake wasn’t working for you on your daughters driveway. I can’t explain what happened on the day but I have just personally tried the handbrake on a steep slope and its working exactly as it should for me. With the Mercedes the handbrake is actually a footbrake and hand release cable system. Could it be that it needed to be pressed down harder or maybe even you pulled the handle rather than pressing the foot pedal which we’ve had before? Who knows but I do take seriously the suggestion that we did nothing. That simply just isn’t the case or true.
We have decided to advertise the car for more as it’s a great car and now with a new MOT makes it more attractive. Im happy for anyone to come and trial the car at anytime. We even welcome the potential new owner to bring their own mechanic if after 31 years in business we are not to be trusted.

Lovely experience

A Very happy experience.

What made my experience great.

Dealing with very friendly, professional people that makes a car purchase a pleasant task.
In the many years I have known the guys at Eclipse (Colden Common) they have gone above and beyond what I would have expected from a car dealer/trader.

AVOID!

What started as an impressive sale moved very quickly to a nightmare! Few issues on our car- waited 2 weeks to book it into ‘their garage’ given a mess of a courtesy car with x2 bald tyres, one got a flat down the road from the garage- Ryan told me I must have driven over something- nothing to do with the bald Tyres obviously! Then have chased constantly to get our extended warranty payment back (no way I want anything more to do with this garage) hopefully it comes back soon! My advice avoid like the plague.

Terrible Garage Don’t buy a car from here

They sold my young son a Mercedes C230
Sold us the “ it goes through our amazing workshop everything is tried and tested ..l
Just after 3 months the Supercharger broke ..this made the car a right off

The reputable garage that found the faults on the car said , as car dealers they would have known this was going to fail

Horrible arrogance now we are trying to return the car - no empathy or sympathy

We wished we had read the review about this awful garage before we bought

We sold your Son a 20 year old part exchange to clear Mercedes with a brand new independant MOT.

He drove the car and managed 4000 miles before having a problem with the supercharger. Your reputable garage in Farnham suggested a new supercharger for £1560 plus VAT.

Having spoken to 3 staff at Eclipse who have all reached out to help, you agreed to drive the "write off" Mercedes to our dealership and leave it with us.

Our Skilled Mechanics diagnosed that a pipe leading to the supercharger was split causing it not to work and we bought this item from Mercedes for £8.49 which allowed the supercharger to perform as it should.

We test drove the car which was fine and arranged with you to collect the vehicle and you drove it home.

You have left a 1 star review because you are unhappy with every element of the service you have received from us which to be honest we find astonishing.
