Took a private plate off a car I was selling, put on retention,Replacement V5 with original No. arrived within 4 days. Dealer selling new car informed DVLA of sale on Thursday and new V5 arrived following Tuesday. Personal plate transferred and fitted within 10 days.

Is it really worth buying a plate off these?? Bought a private reg from dvla in 2020 for £800 and they changed it over obviously. Now I am changing the car they are saying because the car was un taxed (before I owned it) for a short time they won’t let me take the plate off and it needs inspecting that could take up to 6 weeks. It’s disgusting you can’t even phone them because it cost over £3 per minute and the online chat employees are completely useless! They surely know it’s not my fault and now I’m going to probably lose my plate because I am ready now to pick up my new car😡😡😡I’ve had numerous number plates off these over the years but I’m afraid I won’t be having anymore

I am trying to renew driver licence, but the form asks for UK passport details. It says if you do not have UK passport you can just click Next and continue with the application. When I do that it says 'Record unavailable'. I tried several times, the page now says to try again in 24 hrs.

I would give the DVLA no stars!! They are a disgrace and not fit for purpose. I would be ashamed to admit that I worked at the DVLA. I am referring to the medical group because that is who I am trying to deal with. You cannot get through to them on the phone and emails are unanswered. I have never felt so angry and frustrated about an organisation before and I suspect this is why they are not answering the phone, cowards I am afraid. They need to do the job they are being paid to do. Many lives are being ruined because of their inability to perform in a timely manner. I think the time has come to lobby MPs to have offices back in England because from my experience I do not think there will be any improvement in the near future.

Regular tax ripoff!
- Why am I charged a full month if I tax a car on ie the 20th as it is then dated back to the 1st?
- I wrote a car off on 28th Nov and sent my details to the DVLA for a tax refund.
I was charged for December because “we refund from when we receive the notice NOT from the date that your car was taken off the road” only a govt body would get away with that which would not be tolerated anywhere else… it happens to everyone and is a regular tax ripoff! They make millions off this little ‘indiscretion’ which is enforced by the biggest, baddest gang being the police. 1 Star too many

Can't get through unless I pay £3.80 a minute to call them ,none of you make sense on live chat ,your so don't know what you doing ,your not helpful your useless

A month ago I bought a car unfortunately the owner could not find the V5, she was asked to write to the DVLA requesting a copy. The lady did this straight away, a month later still no V5, I am not able to MOT, Tax or anything that allows me to drive the car without the V5 Number. I have tried calling every day and get told no agents are available, I have emailed the DVLA and no sensible response. Today I tried to web chat them only to find this service has been suspended. Where do I go next?

Scam you by sending official DVLA Letters and charge £80. The website looks like you are paying £14 to a government website but it is a scam and they only come out of woodwork after taking your money

Absolutely disgusting service, cannot talk to anyone about my licence renewal that I have been waiting for about a month, the Web bots are a fob off aswell. It seems coronavirus is excuse for everything for rubbish service these days and probably will be for a long time. Man up this is.........SPARTA!

Terrible, they are making alot of peoples lives a misery by not responding to medical issues.I'm unable to work thanks to them, they couldn't care less

I logged on to DVLA to purchase a newly issued registration number on the day 71 plates became available. I seemed to have made the purchase as it took my credit card details and the charge appeared on my credit card app. I became suspicious when I did not get an email confirmation and so I looked at the site again to see that the number was still available to purchase. It was totally impossible to talk to anyone and very difficult to find any way of contacting them. It took me 5 hours to "chat" with someone who was unable to help other than give me another email address to contact. After doing this and waiting several hours I was contacted and told that I hadn't purchased the number despite the charges on my card. They said that it was because I was using a Mac computer with Chrome browser. How was I to know that this was an issue? The service and response was appalling. I still have the charges on my credit card and am waiting to see what happens next!

uh government based??? I bought a car some weeks ago and it has been on the driveway since. I wanted to sorn it. I tried a number of times and it kept telling me i couldnt do it because they hadnt recieved notice of sale from the previous owner. He sent me a txt sayiong he had sent it the day bought it. So i want to ask someone at the DVLA ....... HAHAHAHAHAHA. i googled for a contact number and number of numbers appear. ah but which one. Ive phoned a number of them and often got either a engaged tone or it just went dead!! I thought I would try and sorn it now 3 weeks after buying it and it still wont let me. (What if I had put it straight on the road, would I have been able to tax it?!?!!!). There was number on site 0300 123 4321. I phoned option 4 to talk to someone waited for about a minute and it just went dead again. Absolute Joke, many hours spent wasted, no doubt the next thing will be a fine for not sorning it. Fuming.

pathetic,first time tried said timed out and have been inactive more than 20 minutes, wherein is was not even more than a couple of minutes. Even if that was the case, why did it ask me to enter all the infornation.

If you could leave no stars, I really would.
I bought a privet plate from the DVLA and waited for all my documentation to come though. I went online as it clearly says I can to transfer the plate. Then oh no, I can't. Please click the chat button to find out why, 10 mins later the chat closes its self without ever getting through to an advisor. I try again... nothing, so in the end ring the number. I now explain whats happened and i'm told I can only do mine via post as mine has been pulled out for some further security checks! What a joke, I paid for a service I can't get for a start and now i'm singled out for security? What security can you possibly get from me sending the docs over using the actual numbers on the docs you have already provided?
Now i'm faced with having to wait longer than the free update period for my insurance and finance company and will have to pay out another £100 to amend.... Thanks DVLA, what a total load of garbage your service is.
