Be cautious when ordering…

Be cautious when ordering internationally from De Cabana

Returning an item to De Cabana turned into a frustrating and unnecessarily difficult process. The first time, I did not declare the maximum amount of $10 as instructed, as I was concerned customs would not accept such a low value. The parcel arrived at De Cabana but was refused and returned to me.

After following their instructions again and sending the return, the parcel was confirmed as delivered to their address in Montreal by both PostNL and Canada Post, yet customer service (Noah) continued to deny receipt.

The entire process took over five months to resolve. The refund was refused by customer service employee Noah and was only obtained after escalating the matter to my credit card issuer and initiating a chargeback, which was ultimately decided in my favor.

In the U.S. you will get FedEx invoice for Shipping

My item was fine, but for months I continue to receive FedEx invoices despite the fact that the Decabana site when I made the purchase said shipping was free.
They said they filed a dispute with FedEx and i should not pay. For 5 months nothing has happened. I would never use Decabana again.

Immediate Refund

I recently requested that an order was cancelled. Noah couldn't have been more helpful with regard to this and advice on the future choice of sizes.
A refund was issued within 24 hours.
Great customer service. I would not hesitate to order from this company again.

AVOID.

This company are horrendous do not buy anything if you live in Europe.
They do not advise you may be charged imprt duties when checking out. I completed my purchase, then received an email from UPS advising me I would have to pay duties.
I refused and the parcel was returned, I got a full refund from paypal, however Decabana are now threatening me with legal action unless I pay a return fee of 84 euros. This is shocking, I have no issue paying a delivery return, this is standard if retuning an on line purchase, but expecting me to pay duties as well is just not good enough, Ido not have the goods so why should I pay tax? Very underhand website terms and condtions very difficult to find.
Avoid.

nobody threatened you with any legal action, we simply stated to you our online store policy, which is available for a review at the time of checkout. Your responsibility was to read its terms and conditions prior to placing an order. Sadly you have failed to do that.

Please note that these charges were imposed by customs, not our company. Duties are not advertised as they vary by country—some countries do not apply duties at all, while others have different fee structures. As you are purchasing from abroad, it is your responsibility to be aware of your country’s import regulations.

We do our best to accommodate our international customers by providing custom invoices to help minimize duties. However, customs authorities have the right to inspect and flag parcels, and in such cases, duties may still be applied.

We also sent you an email yesterday, that mentioned the following:
"That being said, since you were already refunded by PayPal, we can do the following. We can cover duties on your behalf and send you a PayPal invoice to pay for the order."

We find that your behavior is very irresponsible, irrational and goes out of bounds. We took every step necessary to communicate with you, explain you the situation and even offered to cover the import costs. You decided to ignore all attempts to come to a positive resolution to the situation and decided to escalate. Such actions are counterproductive and will not yield any positive outcome.

Frais de douanes

Decabana, quand j'ai passé commande ne m'a pas prévenu de frais de douanes à payer, sinon je n,aurais pas commandé. J'ai l'habitude d'acheter chez 1ere avenue site canadien à Montréal et là je ne paye jamais de frais de douane.
Le colis est bloqué chez UPS et dit attendre des instructions de Decabana qui n'en donne pas.
Belle exemple de malhonnêteté. En attendant je ne peut être remboursée et je ne sais quoi faire!

Over the top reaction

Just for clarification this company made my life miserable for weeks with unhelpful emails and even had a debt collection agency send me letters and threatening legal action. They De Cabana had their jacket returned, which had been paid for by me. I did not pay the customs charge as I and my bank both thought it was a scam as no proof was ever provided that these charges had been paid and I can confirm the delivery company never came to my door on the two occasions they claimed. Noah has been the most unhelpful and arrogant customer service person I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. I am glad to confirm my bank refunded me the charge.
I am worn out from emails from this company especially for an item that was almost half price and very old stock. The response was excessive to say the least from such a large organisation and I pursued the matter on principle as I truly felt justified.

Your last order was placed on July 9, 2025, which you returned in full and received a store credit as per our store policy that clearly states and ALL SALE ITEMS ARE SUBJECT TO EXCHANGE OR STORE CREDIT ONLY. We have been very clear and transparent with you from beginning to end, from the time of purchase until the very last email when you have requested a return. The RMA# was issued to you in a timely manner and you were notified in written form that you will receive a STORE CREDIT. It is unfortunate that you have decided on your own accord that the return policy is unacceptable. Most of our customers respect our return policy and abide by it. Return credit refused.

Oversized £150 garment had to be returned during a Canadian postal strike. Decabana rep insisted garment had to be returned within 10 days by carrier at cost of £20 Return was rejected for being out of time and returned to me. Shocking service!

Wrong item sent but no refund

I ordered (from UK) a dress in good time for a wedding but a different item was sent. De Cabana at first argued the correct item was sent, but after I sent a scan of the confirmation order and the item received it agreed "oh, you are right....". It would not provide a return label, so after quite a bit of back and forward correspondence the wrong garment was returned by Royal Mail Tracked Delivery - it refunded the £20 postage. It then claimed the returned item had not been received, but when I forwarded proof of delivery "Oh, yes we have received it...". By this time the wedding event was past but it argued that the dress ordered was a sale item, therefore no refund. I pointed out it had never fulfilled the order and again requested a refund. De Cabana refused, and offered credit or to send the ordered item.
I raised a dispute with Amex and was refunded, less the £20 postage!
What dreadful customer service.

Great experience!

If you like Joseph Ribkoff garments, this is a great store. I love that they are in Canada. Shipping was fast. And when I had a problem with a garment, they quickly replaced it. I have purchased twice from them now and this has become my go-to for wedding outfits and sharp business attire.

Customer service is not their thing!

This company is very difficult to deal , customer service is not a priority to them. I had to return and item due to a manufacturer flaw, knowing there was zero time receive a replacement prior to my daughter's wedding, they advised I could have store credit vs a replacement. I was happy with this but without my consent they sent me a replacement and would not allow me to return it to receive store credit. They are very difficult to deal with you if you have to return anything. BUYER BEWARE!!!

A replacement was processed to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, as this is our standard practice for defective items. When you have a problem, they won’t let you talk and tell you how wonderful they are. They have a restrictive return policy. I would suggest you don’t buy from them.

Please refrain from using words such as "scam". That's not what we do. We have thousands of satisfied customers. We NEVER ask ANY of our customers for any additional payments once they they their order.

Nobody from our company has ever asked you for any additional fees. Your order was shipped to you free of charge. The fee that you received is customs/duties and possibly the VAT tax to pay when you import merchandise from outside of the EURO zone. These fees are charged to you by your local government authority.

Please remove your review or we will be forced to report it to Trustpilot for defamation.

Shady dishonest company. They deny having received my return, despite that FedEx has a picture of the signature.

Warning: Know that if your item doesn't fit, you will have to pay $34 to return to Canada via UPS or FedEx. After I spent the time and money to return the slacks to Canada, they were received and signed for by Noah at this company. He claimed that the package didn't get there, so my credit card filed a dispute and credited the $149 back to my account. Very disappointed.

BEWARE!!!!!

BEWARE!!!!!! I returned an item. I waited 2 weeks to hear from them. Never heard a word. Called and they said they never received it. Had the tracking number. They said “Oh yeah we did receive it. We will call you back. Never called back. Had to dispute with credit card company. They reversed the charge in just a couple of hours. Makes one wonder if others have had the same experience m.
