Unauthorized charges, Incomplete subscription, complicated communications

UPDATE: I have not been charged for another 6 month subscription which I did not authorize nor request nor can I afford at the moment. There is no place in one's account to cancel or update anything except addresses and payments. You have to contact them directly - which, to date, gets you an avalanche of back and forth emails. The website needs severe updating for easier control on the customer's end. If you like the products and wish to invest in this company, I would suggest not keeping a credit card on file after your initial purchase is complete.

Original review: I paid for a 6 month subscription box series from Sarah Burns Studio via Craftamo last August. The cost is $267.99 plus an additional $12.99 per box. Their tracking system is pretty strange as you get charged, are sent a "tracking number" that shows nothing viable you can actually track, and then, 10-14 days later, your package arrives.

For $12.99 a box, it shouldn't take that long. It is difficult to figure out where it originates from. Nonetheless, when I finally got the box, the quality of the materials was good enough, instructions clear...overall, expensive for what you get but you do pay for a guided experience to help your art skills with a favorite artist. It would be far more economical to just buy the materials on your own and use Skillshare or another venue for the learning experience but I thought this would be fun and I could also gift my artsy friend with the holidays coming up (flash forward, box never came I had planned to gift).

My issue is how Craftamo is (not)handling the paid for/missing box ($57.65) - now going on 2 months of just emailing back and forth. UPS/USPS never received it in their system as I already researched with them. The email I was sent stating it was on the way with the tracking number showed canceled. It has been 2 months and all I get are plethora of emails saying "how sorry they are I am frustrated and indeed it was not canceled, we will look into it...but remember, you DID receive Boxes 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6."

It does not take 2 months to resolve a shipping issue. Total to Craftamo: $345.93 ($57.65 per box) which isn't small change for most of us.

Glitches happen but pushing things off while making your customer feel it is their fault, is just bad business. For now, 1 star. If this gets resolved with a refund or they finally send the box, I may upgrade.

Just beware - before you spend a chunk of money on a subscription - this could happen. And it is not that such a shipping glitch could happen (it does and can be resolved in most all cases), it's that you will spend far too much time and effort to resolve it because Craftamo will not.

Cratamo - Emma Collaboration

Satisfaite mais après dédommagment ayant pris du temps

Dédommagement satisfaisant suite à mon litige.
Je modifie donc mon avis mais en laissant mon avais initial plus bas pour la chronologie et historique.
Car je suis satisfaite du dédommagement que j'ai obtenu (un bon d'achat sur une autre commande à hauteur de ce que j'avais dépensé lors de ma précédente commande qui m'avait déçue).
Mais je regrette que la proposition de dédommagement qui m'a été faite a fait suite à mon avis initial sur trustpilot, après mes nombreux mails de plainte restés sans réponse.

Pas du tout satisfaite, litige toujours non résolu !
1/ Frais de port élevés, 2/ délais de livraison longs, et surtout 3/ commande de 2 boites set de pinceaux commandées, 1 boite reçue abimée, 2 pinceaux dans l'autre boite défectueux (bague mal certie sur le manche bois avec alors un large écart entre la bague et le manche bois, et l'autre pinceau des poils abimés).
Après mon 1er mail envoyé avec photo pour faire part de cela (début décembre 2024), renvoi de 2 autres pinceaux de remplacement autres que ceux abimés + avec énormément de retard (reception fin décembre) et sans que je sois tenue informée.
J'ai aussitot renvoyé un mail pour leur dire que ce n'était pas les bons pinceaux. Un seul mail reçu après des relances de ma part pour me dire de patienter... On ne répond jamais également à ma plainte de la boite reçue abimée, malgré ma question répétée à chacun de mes mails.
Résultat : nous sommes le 22 janvier 2025, je n'ai aucune réponse à mes mails de relance, aucune information de leur part, et toujours en attente du remplacement de pinceaux !
Je suis extrêmement mécontente et c'est une très mauvaise expérience !

Ajout au 29/01/25 après réponse de craftamo : Non ce n'est pas vrai mon litige n'est toujours pas réglé ! Pinceaux de remplacement toujours en attente ! Aucune notification d'envoi reçue ! Pas de dédommagement pour la boite reçue abimée...
Des mails envoyés restés sans réponse...
J'attends toujours le service de qualité que craftamo promets.

These brushes are the best

These brushes are the best! They hold a great point, bounce back and are superior to any others I have used. They hold water well. They are easy to load with pigment. Once cleaned dry in the point as if new.

Great experience with this company

watercolor painting for a 2nd time

I started watercolor painting for a 2nd time after my husband died 4.5 years ago. 1st experience was in college and I liked very much. I feel like a self taught watercolor painter this 2nd time around. Learning from videos is great but to have the experience of using the artist exact brushes for the WC journey is even better. I chose today’s date because my experiences with WC’s has not stopped, it’s a continuing, learning journey.

I loved the 12 Days of Christmas Box

I loved the 12 Days of Christmas Box! Great quality and fun items! This was the second art advent calendar (the other one was from a different company) I’ve bought and it’s by far, the best one! I love how every item fit together as a “theme”. The item at the end was perfect to keep it all together. The packaging was beautiful and the tutorials were a special touch. It was a bit pricey, but I think it was worth it. It was so fun and I’m sad it’s over:)

UPDATE. Craftamo denied my review on their website so BEWARE all the reviews will be positive as they deny truthful reviews. They also tried to have this review taken down but were unsuccessful.
UPDATE-if there was to be a delay due to the postal strike it should have stated so on your website. I understand the strike caused many delays BUT I should have been made aware of this when ordering as the item was for a gift that has still not arrived. Had I known about the delay I would not have ordered. Craftamo still refuses to cover the cost for me to ship the late Christmas themed product back to them from Canada to the UK. As for the cancellation request being denied, I ordered December 1, the item shipped December 31, there was more than enough time for you to cancel the order as requested on December 9 and at least 5 times after that date.
As you can see by the other 1 star reviews, Craftamo has nothing but excuses and does not work with the customer to find a solution suitable for both parties.
Would not recommend. Terrible customer service and unwilling to work with the customer.
Update- ordered December 1 and realized it would not arrive in time for gifting. Asked several times to cancel the order and got little to no response. They shipped the Christmas themed product on December 31, 30 days after ordering. I will now be expected to pay for return shipping from Canada to the UK in order to get a refund. Very disappointing business practices.

The shipping delay you mentioned was unfortunately caused by the Canada Shipping strike, which has impacted many parcels, not just ours. While we always strive to deliver products on time, this strike has been an unforeseen issue that has affected transit times for a large number of shipments heading to Canada, including yours. Please know that this situation was completely beyond our control, and we understand how disruptive this can be, particularly when you were expecting your order for gifting purposes.

In regards to your request for cancellation, I understand the frustration you've expressed. As explained by our Customer Happiness agent, Mau, once an order has been shipped, we are unable to cancel it as it is already in transit. This is our standard procedure to ensure we are consistent with our processes for all customers. However, we recognize that the timing of this shipment, especially considering the Christmas season, has made this situation more difficult for you.

We do our best to provide excellent customer service and ensure that every experience is a positive one, and we truly regret that we’ve fallen short of your expectations in this instance.

Beautiful,well made brushes that seem to glide over the painting. They feel good in the hand and hold lots of pigment/water. You won`t be disappointed.

Beware Craftamo subscription services!

I chose a 6 month subscription of Sarah Burns paint boxes from Craftamo. The product was lovely - but expensive. Note: you actually choose either "6 month plan" or "12 month plan". Then after 6 months my credit card was charged for another 6 months. In contacting Craftamo, the company stated subscriptions automatically renew. Which means, choosing "6 month plan" on the ordering page, is actually 12 months whether you want the product or not for that long. The website is totally misleading; you have to drill down to find this out. In contacting them the day the charge appeared on my card, they refused to credit me because I did not cancel "in time". Not only was I unaware of this automatic renewal (this factoid could have easily been placed on the main ordering page), no courtesy cancellation reminder was sent to warn you (think: Netflix, PBS, etc. who give you a 30 day reminder). Please beware of this misleading offer!

We do apologise for any confusion regarding our subscription payment plans. To clarify, Sarah's subscription is designed as 12 months of Gouache Art Classes, with three payment plans, bill monthly, bill every 6-months (saving 15%) and a pre-paid 12-month plan (saving you a huge 25%). The monthly and 6-month plans do auto-renew at the end of each period.

This is explained in our subscription terms and conditions, and the agreement to this is placed in several places on our site, including below the "Add to Cart" and "Buy Now" button, and in both places we link you to our terms, these placements are required by law, so it's very strict that we include these.

We apologise if this was not clear at first glance. We always strive to ensure transparency, and feedback like yours helps us improve the way we present information to our customers.

To clarify, we do send reminder emails like all the popular subscription services you mentioned, ahead of the renewal date to make sure customers are aware, and you are entitled to reach out before billing to cancel.

We have reached out to you via email to offer you some solutions that you may be happy with - after all, this is a wonderful product, which a lot of value.
