I had George Eales and Ian Taylor come to Shaftesbury Court. When ever i have Comfort Plus here they are always so kind helpful and polite to the residents. Nothing is too much trouble.

Elderly Grandmother Sold Unnecessary Features

I'm compelled to share my disappointment with Comfort Plus Products. My 90-year-old grandmother, a resident in an elderly retirement complex, was recently sold an armchair for £5000. The sales tactics used were pushy and took advantage of the friendly atmosphere created by promotions like free cream tea.

The chair comes with features that my grandmother does not need, such as an inbuilt wireless charger, when she has a perfectly functional charger plugged into the wall within arm's reach. This seems like an unnecessary upsell.

Moreover, the company's website does not display individual prices, which I find concerning. This lack of transparency makes me question their pricing strategy and whether they quote prices based on their assessment of a customer's financial situation.

I urge potential customers to be cautious and thorough in their dealings with this company. It's essential to ensure that our elderly loved ones are not taken advantage of and are sold products that genuinely meet their needs

Following your grandmother’s order, we spoke with her on several occasions to confirm the details, ensure she was happy with the chair, and that everything was clearly understood. At no point were any concerns raised about the experience, which is why we would really value the chance to speak with you and understand more.

We always encourage customers to involve their family members in decisions and invite relatives to attend our presentations wherever possible. Especially with bespoke products like ours, we believe that having support and shared understanding is really important.

The chair in question was tailored to your grandmother’s preferences and includes a number of additional features, some for added comfort and support, others designed to offer day-to-day ease and long-term benefit. While features like a built in table with a wireless charger may not feel essential today, many customers choose them as they prepare for future needs. If there’s anything that doesn’t feel right or necessary, we would absolutely welcome a conversation. Our team is here to help and, where needed, we’ve always worked to make adjustments or offer refunds when we’re unable to resolve an issue.

Pushy sales tactics have no place at Comfort Plus. Our goal is to create a calm, informative environment and guide people in choosing what’s right for them. While we don’t list individual prices online due to the bespoke nature of our products, we’ve always had a clear pricing structure and are transparent with quotes once we understand someone’s individual needs.

No idea about quality, but sales tactics are completely wrong!

They visited my mother's assisted living care home in Ashford Kent to show their products to residents, I (her daughter)was unaware of this visit, as if I had known my mum was to show interest in the chairs I would have been there to help her, to make sure it was a good deal.
She showed interest in a recliner chair and without even sitting in it to check for comfort and the ability to use the riser function, she had a salesperson signing her up to buy a £3,000 chair!
It was only because my mum needed something from me for the forms that I found out this was happening, and the salesperson was trying to get her to pay £1500 deposit there and then.
After seeing the quote I can safely say we will not be buying the chair, as I mentioned it is a riser chair which would not be suitable for my mum who is wheelchair bound and she was also being sold an extra £750 for adjustable neck & lumber support, even though she hadn't even sat in a chair to know what the extra support would be!
I am not querying the quality of the chairs as I have no clue on this but if after my mother had received her chair and it was not suitable I highly doubt she would be able to return for full refund as they claim to all be bespoke made for each client so wouldn't be able to be re-sold to someone else.
This is a lot of money for an elderly person to part with and I disagree strongly that they should be allowed into care homes like my mother's which have a high percentage of residents who have dementia, goodness knows what would happen if they sold to these poor unsuspecting people!

We never encourage immediate decisions and always invite attendees to involve family members. In many cases, we provide a no-obligation quote so individuals can take their time and discuss it with loved ones before making any commitments.

When a customer expresses interest, we carry out a detailed assessment to understand their individual needs, this includes comfort preferences, medical concerns such as circulation issues or back pain, and how the chair will be used day to day. In some cases, specific mechanisms like our Twin motor Tilt-in-Space include a riser function as standard. This is not a sales tactic, but a standard design feature that can be helpful over time, whether for the individual or for carers, even if it’s not essential right now.

We also have a clear safeguard in place: our customer care team always follows up with a phone call the next day to confirm that the customer fully understands what they’ve ordered and is happy to continue with the purchase. This is a vital step in making sure they feel confident and supported.

Our chairs are highly bespoke, but our focus is always on the customer’s wellbeing. If a chair ever turns out to be unsuitable, our lifetime guarantee means we’ll make all necessary comfort adjustments or, in cases where we cannot resolve the issue, we have offered a full refund.

I am extremely disappointed and disturbed by the conduct of Comfort Plus and their outdated, high-pressure sales tactics. A representative recently visited my 82-year-old mother, who suffers from dementia and is not mentally capable of making informed decisions. She was convinced — falsely — that a £2,000 chair was made specifically for her, and pressured into buying it on credit ("on the hock").

The salesperson gave her just two days to make a decision before they would "return," and deliberately pushed for a sale without involving any family. This kind of coercion is not only manipulative — it's unethical. My mother cannot even form a full sentence most days, and yet this company saw fit to treat her like a regular customer and push her into an unnecessary and expensive purchase.

This is not how any reputable business should treat vulnerable elderly people. I will be raising this issue with the manager of her care home and escalating the matter to the directors of Comfort Plus.

Comfort Plus — do better. This is not just bad business. It's morally wrong.

To add thank you for your reply - to add my mother thinks she is paying £1 a month and the total overhaul price (considering you don't add any interest is £3550) she has no concept of this just that she wants it now! we cant take that from her however, she is highly vulnerable and I will be speaking to your directors, the paperwork doesn't even state she has already paid £500. this is grooming at the other end of the spectrum with sale tactics

To be clear, we do not allow pressure selling in any form. Our presentations are conducted in small groups to ensure a relaxed, no-pressure environment, and any follow-up conversations are only arranged at the individual’s request. All our teams are thoroughly trained to spot signs of reduced mental capacity and are required to escalate any concerns to a manager immediately. However, we acknowledge that some conditions are not always immediately visible, and we are reviewing this case carefully.

We also call every customer the following day through our customer care team to confirm they are completely happy with their order and understand the purchase in full. We encourage all customers, particularly those who live alone, to involve family members in their decision.

We offer interest-free payment plans not to pressure, but to make our products, many of which are essential for mobility, pain relief, and daily independence, more accessible.

This is the first time we have become aware of this issue, and we would very much like the opportunity to understand what has happened and ensure both you and your mother are supported. Please get in touch with us directly so we can resolve this properly.

A great experience and entertaining…

A great experience and entertaining coffee morning!

I'm a Manager at an Independent Living Site in Sutton Coldfield , Birmingham and I have just had Comfort Plus do a demonstration here for my homeowners.

Chris and George arrived and unloaded the products. Nothing was a problem, and they arranged and prepared the cream tea, tea and coffees. The demo was brilliant very educational even for me who learned a lot. Very entertaining keeping the homeowners engaged the whole time, they all really enjoyed the coffee morning.

Nothing was to much hassle for them, they even stayed after packing up as 2 of my homeowners turned up just as they was going. They unpacked the bed which they was interested in, for them to do a demo.

Would definitely recommend and be happy to have them back.

We had a demonstration of products at Avon Court which was not only fun but very informative too. The tenants here loved the cream scones (nice touch) - not to mention the road test of the chairs and beds that were brought along.

Old fashioned hard sell visiting groups of retired people

Pushy salespeople. Visit my elderly parent in her retirement complex. There are no prices for chairs or beds in their brochure. They also sell an overpriced biofreeze gel which is unsuitable for fragile skin. and has a fire hazard warning on it. It is assumed that elderly people have lots of spare money, but they don't as they're already paying high fees to live in these places and having carers in. Some may have memory issues and disabilities. Easy to sell products to them they don't need. There needs to be more regulation. This is an old fashioned way of selling. There are far more superior gels, skin friendly gels for pain. The scooters are overpriced. Rollators start at £130. Yes some of these adjustable beds and chairs are useful. But it's the way they're sold to people. Put the prices in the brochure. So they can compare with others.
