Poorly maintained property and poor service

Rented Apartment Alaska in Val Thorens for a week and it was immediately clear that the photos were taken years ago. The property was very poorly maintained, tired and dirty - the bathrooms needed replacing, the walls were all damaged and smashed up, there was a disgusting piece of Perspex stuck to the top of dining table (not sure for what purpose), We also had no hot water for 24 hours an ended up fixing it ourselves (with some help from AI) after their plumber’s response was “it happens all the time”.

I could go on and on as the list of issues was long, but essentially the lesson here is that some agencies like Cimalpes exploit the fact that demand outstrips supply in the 3 Valleys so they can get away with doing zero maintenance. They just shrug and say sorry but have no real interest.

Oddly, they also expect you to drive to their agency and collect and drop back the keys. Ordinarily companies leave one key on a secure key box with a code and then the other keys are in the apartment.

Our friends booked an apartment in Val Thorens through Erna Low who they said were very good so I would recommend using them and avoiding Cimalpes to anyone reading this.

Appalling customer care

I have stayed multiple times in meribel and across ski resorts in France. This is the worse company I have ever used. The check in was slow and felt disorganised from the start and then after going out for dinner we returned to find the second key did not work for the apartment and we were left stranded outside the apartment. With our belongings inside. They suggested we had moved into the wrong apartment!!
The team did not know how to access the garage from the outside and we had to leave the car at the garage entrance and walk up round to the front entrance go down the Lift. Poor local knowledge and didn’t really care.

Completely unacceptable experience

Completely unacceptable experience. Despite leaving the flat in good condition, we were overcharged for alleged damages. Minor issues were exaggerated into major problems, even though we were reasonable throughout our stay and raised genuine issues on their side, such as an induction hob that did not work properly and was never fixed.
Reasonableness is clearly not how they operate. Had we known this, we would have documented every square metre of the flat with photos and videos, rather than relying on common sense. Hidden costs, no transparency, and money deducted from our refund without proper disclosure. Shocking service. Outrageous and unacceptable.

I never imagined I would write a post…

I never imagined I would write a post like this.

I made a booking with Cimalpes, a luxury real estate and travel agency in the French Alps.

Then war started in UAE.

Suddenly, traveling was no longer possible. Like many people facing extraordinary circumstances, I contacted the agency immediately and requested a refund for my booking.

Despite explaining the situation and providing the context, my request was refused and my money has not been returned.

I fully understand cancellation policies during normal times.
But when a war breaks out in someone's country, this is no longer a normal situation.

Travel companies often speak about hospitality, empathy and customer care. Moments like these are when those values should matter the most.

Instead, I was left without a solution.

I am sharing this experience publicly because transparency matters. Future travelers deserve to know how companies treat their customers during exceptional situations.

Unbelievable shocking experience

Unbelievable shocking experience! We live in Dubai and had a booking with this agency in Courchevel, and 3 days before our planned stay Dubai got hit by Iran’s rockets, and the airspace got closed (so far for a week, and its still ongoing at the moment). When i informed them 3 days before the stay that we are literally being bombed right now, and the planes are not flying, they replied multiple times “ Unfornatunelty, our refund policies do not include this kind of issue.”!!!!!!!! Its been a week and they reject all our requests for refund/partial refund/credit this amount for the next year. I am shocked, this is UNETHICAL, INHUMANE attitude towards customers caught in unexpected war! Shame!

Service minable

Service minable, nous avons dépensé 30,000€ pour une semaine de location. Les matelas étaient tout simplement pourris avec des sommiers à lattes qui se cassaient. Impossible de dormir. Réponse de l'agence: " Nous allons prévenir le propriétaire". Aucun geste, rien. Pas d'excuse non plus. Nous avons eu l'information par un membre du personnel que cela fait des années que les clients se plaignent de la literie et que rien n'est fait. Une honte sans nom. Ne passez pas par cette agence.
MISE A JOUR SUITE REPONSE:
Vous ne trouvez pas de trace de ma reservation? Quelle malhonnêteté. Je transmet à Truspilot la confirmation de ma commande ainsi que les photos de votre chalet à 30K la semaine avec des matelas sur lattes digne d'une prison.

Security Deposit Mishandled – Charged Instead of Held & Refunded Incorrectly

I recently used this company and unfortunately had a very poor experience regarding the handling of my security deposit. I’m sharing this so future holidaymakers are aware of what to expect.

I was required to leave a €2,000 security deposit, which should normally be placed on hold on a card.

Instead, the company fully debited the amount from my credit card — something that should never have happened for a refundable deposit.

The amount they debited was £1,888.33, but when the refund was issued, they only returned £1,705.61. That means £182.72 is still missing, purely due to exchange rate changes.
A deposit should never be subject to conversion loss, as it is not a purchase.
When I contacted them, I found the process slow, unclear, and lacking accountability. I requested a manager to be involved, but the communication has been disappointing to say the least.
This has caused unnecessary stress, time, and financial inconvenience.
I’ve travelled widely and never had a company mishandle a deposit in this way. Because of how this situation has been managed, I will not be a returning customer and unfortunately cannot recommend them based on my experience.
I hope this review helps others understand the potential risks before booking.

CIMALPES MERIBEL, A SCAM

Agence à fuir.

Nous sommes passés par CIMALPES pour une location de chalet (ici le Chalet Saint Joseph) afin de passer une semaine entre amis.

Nous sommes arrivés au Chalet, et avons trouvé l’endroit dans un état immonde.

La vaisselle n’était pas propre (clairement pas lavée) avec des résidus de nourriture sèche collée aux assiettes.

Nous avons trouvés des cheveux dans les draps, des tas de poussière à travers la maison (sur les escaliers, sur les lampes de chevet, l’aspirateur n’avait pas été passé).

Une des têtes de lit était également cassée.
Il n’y avait pas assez de serviettes pour les personnes présentes dans la maison, ni de papier toilettes.

Nous nous sommes plaints de ces points auprès de l’agence, celle-ci nous a répondu qu’ils nous rajouteraient des serviettes pour 18EURO par serviette supplémentaire.

Nous avons également eu le droit à un mail de réponse expliquant que nous ne payions pas assez cher pour avoir un service de qualité, car 9,000 EUROS par semaine ne permet apparemment pas de maintenir un certain niveau de propreté et qualité.

La manager de CIMALPES nous a écrit « pour la vaisselle sale, désolée, mais nous ne vérifions pas entre les locations » ainsi que « Je comprends votre décéption dans le chalet, cependant il n’est pas nouveau et ceci est reflété dans le prix, vous payez 8,800 EUROS alors que les nouveaux chalets sont à 11,500 EUROS. Beaucoup de vos plaintes sont dues a l’âge du chalet ».

La wifi est catastrophique au sein du chalet en lui-même, et inexistante au sous-sol.

De plus, l’agence met en location un bien ayant deux chambres au sous-sol, qui sentaient la moisissure, SANS FENETRE, ce qui est INTERDIT auprès de la loi Française, voir ci-dessous :
Article R*111-9 du CCH : Toute pièce principale d’un logement (dont la chambre) doit disposer d’une ouverture donnant à l’air libre, permettant une aération et un éclairage naturel suffisants.

Cette agence est incompétente. La Manager manque de professionnalisme, et ne devrait clairement pas travailler dans le servicing, au vu de son incapacité à accepter la responsabilité de par la représentation du chalet.

Agency to Avoid.
We went through CIMALPES to rent a chalet (in this case, Chalet Saint Joseph) to spend a week with friends.

When we arrived at the chalet, we found the place in an abysmal state.

The dishes were not clean (clearly not washed), with dried food stuck to the plates.
We found hair in the sheets, piles of dust throughout the house (on the stairs, on the bedside lamps, the vacuum had not been used).
One of the headboards was also broken.

There were not enough towels for the number of people in the house, nor enough toilet paper.

We complained to the agency about these issues, and they replied that they would provide extra towels for 18 EUROS per additional towel.

We also received an email response explaining that we were not paying enough to expect quality service, because 9,000 EUROS isn’t enough apparently to maintain a certain cleanliness and quality of the chalet.

The Manager responded to our complaint stating « I understand sou are disappointed in the chalet, it is not a newer one which is reflected into the price. You pay 8,800 EUROS while the more recent ones are at 11,500 EUROS and a lot of your complaints are due to the ‘age’ of the chalet. » as well as « As for dirty dishes, sorry but we do not check in between renters ».

The Wi-Fi is terrible and non-existent in the basement.

Furthermore, the agency rents out a property with two basement bedrooms that smelled of mold, WITHOUT WINDOWS, which is FORBIDDEN under French law, as shown below:
Article R*111-9 of the CCH: Every main room in a dwelling (including bedrooms) must have an opening to the outside, allowing for sufficient ventilation and natural light.

This agency is incompetent. The manager lacks professionalism and clearly should not be working in customer service.

Terrible company

Terrible company run by extremely rude staff that couldn’t care less. Reported numerous problems on arrival, nothing ever got fixed and then cimalpes claimed that we had broken items and took our holding deposit.

Apartment wasn’t even clean when we arrived and we had to clean ourselves. Avoid booking this company at all costs.

Replying to every review telling people you have no record of the booking isn’t going to get you out of your terrible reviews!!!

DO NOT BOOK WITH CIMALPES

Cimalpes are an awful company that will use your damage deposit to fix existing damage to a property, even when you report it at the start of your stay, do not book with them!!

Looking through previous reviews, it seems as though they are stealing from a number of people's deposits and I wish I had seen this before we booked with them.

Broken thermostat in one of the main bedrooms, we sweltered in this bedroom and we were unable to turn the heating down as it was BROKEN! We told Cimalpes that it was broken and they said they would send someone to fix it. Following this we then spent 24 hours with no heating or hot water in sub minus temperatures, they didn't care. We got some snotty French girl on the phone who didn't even apologise.

The heating was never fixed and we had to take turns sleeping in the room that felt like a sauna. When paying nearly 8000 Euros for a week, this was not what we expected.

Leaving completely disappointed with our accommodation experience they then decided to send us a delightful email telling us they were charging us 1800 Euros to fix the thermostat that we reported as broken!! I have no words for this disgusting company.

I'm sure they will give a pointless response to this review below, explaining that they followed procedures etc etc but they didn't, they stole from us. Would never book with them ever again!

My family and my partner’s family have been going on ski trips to Val d’Isère for the past four years, and we truly love the place.
We stayed for one week in a chalet in Val d’Isère during this Christmas season.
During our stay, the property had multiple serious problems.(we have a WhatsApp chat history) In short, we had to call a technician twice, and after his last visit, the pipe eventually burst and water leaking.(we also have a video)
As a result, we were unable to take showers and had no hot water at all.
We did not touch or modify anything after the technician left.
We requested compensation for the inconvenience we experienced.
Nevertheless, without providing any repair report or evidence, and without our consent, you unilaterally deducted our security deposit and claimed that the damage was our responsibility.
I am willing to acknowledge reasonable charges such as cleaning fees. However, we absolutely cannot accept responsibility for damage caused by your technician.
Since then, your representatives have completely stopped responding, despite my repeated emails and WhatsApp messages.( I have a record)
I will pursue this matter to the very end.
Unless your company acknowledges its fault and resolves this properly, I will proceed with legal action.
I have been in the investment business for 25 years and maintain offices in Korea, Japan, singapore,US, and Switzerland.
My legal team in Switzerland will engage external counsel to initiate legal proceedings against your company.
I will ensure that the misconduct of your company and its representatives ( amelie, lora, sandra) becomes widely known, and I will continue until those responsible are held fully accountable. Our media manager will release this issue online and so we hope that no more victims will be created by their actions, and we do not want beautiful France and Val d’Isère to be damaged because of them.
I strongly urge you to respond immediately and resolve this matter in good faith.

We have carefully reviewed your comments.

Following your stay, our teams conducted a thorough assessment based on the condition of the property and the findings on site. This assessment clearly identified non-compliance with the departure instructions and improper use of the swimming pool facilities, which led to technical damage. In accordance with the contractual terms accepted at the time of booking, the security deposit was therefore rightfully retained.

All relevant elements supporting this decision have already been communicated to you.

Semaine de Noël

Nous avons loué un appartement pour 5 personnes à Val Thorens.
Trois personnes/5 seulement ont pu prendre une douche chaude durant toute la semaine.
Rien a été fait par l’agence.
Inadmissible pour un appartement à 3500€ la semaine.

Suite à votre signalement en début de séjour concernant l’eau chaude, un technicien s’est rendu sur place rapidement. Aucun dysfonctionnement n’a alors pu être constaté. Nous avons néanmoins poursuivi les vérifications et pris contact avec le propriétaire ainsi que le syndic de l’immeuble afin d’identifier une éventuelle anomalie liée aux installations communes.

Nous regrettons sincèrement que la situation n’ait pas pu être améliorée de manière satisfaisante durant votre séjour et comprenons votre déception au regard du niveau de prestation attendu. Nos équipes sont restées disponibles tout au long de votre séjour.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment with…

We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment with Cimalpes in Morzine July 2025 this summer. We go to Morzine every summer as are regular mountain bikers and went with my daughter and grandparents. We noticed scratches on the countertop on arrival. The agency took my booking deposit of €1,000 2 weeks after we departed saying we did it. We did not cook once in the apartment and we requested evidence of the apartment prior to our arrival. Please stay away from this company, very unprofessional and not helpful.

We are sorry that our services did not meet your expectations. It in no way reflects the standards of quality and service that we strive to uphold across all our destinations.

In line with our standard procedure, the check-in inventory was approved by you, with no comments or issues reported regarding the condition of the kitchen worktop.

However, during the check-out inspection, our team noted significant knife marks on the surface. As the worktop is made from a single block, it is unfortunately not possible to carry out a partial repair. A full replacement was therefore required.

As stated in the general rental terms and conditions accepted at the time of booking, any damage identified after departure may result in a deduction from the security deposit. It is on this basis that the amount was withheld.

Un service réservation au top

J'ai demandé plusieurs devis au service réservation pour un séjour cet été et vraiment l'accueil était agréable, la conseillère m'a bien expliqué les détails des logements et des services, tout était clair. Il ne reste plus qu'à choisir ma destination :)

Warning -- Do Not Use Cimalps

Warning, don't ever use Cimalps for rentals. We rented a luxury apartment (2 bedroom) for 1 week in Meribel and were extremely disappointed. While the apartment was ok, the service levels were atrocious! Upon check in the person had no clue what they were doing and gave us wrong directions to the apartment, even the key they gave us had the wrong address on it. The apartment was disgusting when we got there and my wife had to reclean the entire place (people's hair on the carpet). Lastly, even though we were there for 7 nights, paying E3,500, they told us we had to buy our own garbage bags and toilet paper. How ridiculous is that!!!

Personnel non expérimenté = manager fuyant ses problèmes = incompétences à tous niveaux

Personnel non expérimenté, manager fuyant au devant de ses responsabilités laissant stagiaires ou alternants se débrouiller avec la clientèle, n'assume pas non-plus la sous-traitance d'annonce de location diffusé par intermédiaire ici skiplanet = multiples interlocuteurs erreurs dans les informations. facturation au nom de Skiplanet et non Cimalpes. Peu de descriptions sur l'équipement du logement. Peu de souplesse en réservation, erreur de numéro d'adresse de logement.
