I purchased a handset through the Capitec Bank app via Capitec Connect for R1,700 plus delivery. The phone was delivered sealed, but during the initial setup it immediately required me to set up a password upon switching on the device and I did ,short after the cellphone device requested a password, and repeatedly rejected the password and my Google account, making it impossible to complete activation.
I reported the issue and capitec connect couldn’t advise me as to what is the reason the phone requested a password upon activation so I requested a refund within 24 hours. The device was collected by courier in less than 48hours,and sent to a testing centre. I was later told the phone was “not faulty” ,was also told to pay R425 in order to receive the phone back and my refund request was declined. Over the course of the dispute, the reasons for refusing the refund changed — first the absence of the original box was cited, then I was told I did not return the device with the pin and cable wich is incorrect and later I was told the device showed “visible damage,” despite it only being used for attempted activation.
Despite returning the device promptly and following the process, the refund was refused and the case was closed. They insisted that because of absence of the box they cannot refund me at first rejection reason,Case numbers: 02076291 and 07026609. I hope this matter can still be resolved fairly and that the process for customers facing similar issues will be improved.
Unreliable and Unsafe – Do Not Recommend
I honestly do not feel safe keeping my money with Capitec. The bank and app are terrible. They freeze or pause my account whenever they feel like it, with no regard for whether I need access to my funds, even in an emergency. It’s clear they don’t care about their customers. I would not recommend banking with them.

They send me an sms that says i qualify for credit card and then followed by phone call from one of their staff members ,and then decided to surrender and go to visit a branch to bring needed docs for that ,and then 'boom' my credit card application was declined in the branch with me present! how on earth do you call client and waste their time and yours as capitec staff memebr? as if that was not enough i got told i can move my family's funeral policies from Clientele to theirs because their monthly payment is cheaper ,again after delivering all necessary documents my application was declined and the new 'excuse' was i need to have my salary paid at capitec before i can move my funeral policies first, capitec has untrained staff members and that's their downfall guaranteed but there's a room for improvement since they have more than 5 million customers who still think capitec has 0% charges in everything because they have kind of clients who lives in 'cloud cuckoland" when it comes to latest news about capitec

Some functions not working on app. Online subscription can’t be renewed and it’s my software even if I use a computer. Maybe time have come to change banks. Emails sent screenshots taken. Dont take a loan with Capitec
Dont take a loan with Capitec. The run debit orders whenever they want. iMy request when taking a loan was the last day of the month. I have been paying without default for 2 years and not once have the debit order run on thecorrect date. it went off as early as the 17th of December 2025
Upon querying I was told that they can change the debit to the last day but now it is a special arrangement and there is T&Cs that will apply

I love Capitec Bank service. I have been with the bank for years and didn't really trust it until I started comparing with other banks. Have been previously assisted to trace and refund for unauthorized debits. It was quick and efficient to replace my card when I lost my purse. I can use my account overseas. Love your app. Better than the rest. You are still my number one.😍😍

I am NOT happy with Capitec Bank.. I started investing with a company with a registered company number and legal sars papers. Capitec BLOCKED my bank because i deposited my OWN hard earning money to my investing company. When I went to branch i wanted to show them my investment company is registered and all the legal documents, All that Capitec said to me they DON'T CARE about the legal papers. And all they asked is why did you deposit the money. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CAPITEC WHAT I DO WITH MY MONEY OR TO WHOM I DEPOSIT TO. Now my bank is blocked I can't access any of my money, can't pay rent, can't by food NOTHING. So that states that with Capitec you can't do anything with your money THEY MUST GIVE U PERMISSION TO DO SOMETHING WITH YOUR OWN MONEY. Capitec constantly say yes they want to protect you from scams. But who is doing the scams / fraud against their own clients from keeping me from my own money!!!!!!!!

Went to the Capitec Fourways Mall Branch with my mother. The service was top-tier. They were patient, kind and helpful. It was a pleasant experience, which took a lot of time, but they were dedicated to making sure that we left the branch satisfied. I hope they continue treating their customers with such care and thoughtfulness.
Extremely disappointing service at Capitec
I visited the branch to withdraw funds from my Tax-Free Savings Account a process that usually takes less than 30 minutes. Instead, I was kept waiting at the branch for over an hour with no clear communication or progress.
During this time, the consultant appeared more focused on reviewing my bank statements than actually processing my request. I later followed up, only to be informed that the transaction had not been assigned to anyone and was never worked on at all.
This means I was kept waiting for an hour for absolutely nothing, and no funds were released. This level of inefficiency, lack of ownership, and poor customer service is unacceptable.
I expect better process management and professionalism. This experience has made me seriously reconsider my banking relationship with Capitec.

Capitec is The weakest link of All This banks it can't help out when you hve emergency while still paying for credit card or loan, yet you still afford for as long your permanently employed they should hve a strategy of helping out their clients immediately irrespective of how some is still paying loan or credit ppl tend to lend money somewhere but still using Capitec as The Main Bank account, I regret the day I started using this bank is not helpful to its clients, uu pay for credit card but the money still remains still and not even adding some cash to the credit card its useless using this bank cos I pay for credit card which doesn't work for me at all.

Most useless bank ever. Customer service cannot assist you and drops the phone. Sending documents via WhatsApp then email. Back and forth the whole day. Going into a branch. They cannot help you and reverts you back to online again. Call Centre agents and credit card application agents don't have proper training and don't know what they are doing. Stay away. Far away!

Saturday morning the 29 Nov 2025 at 1:32 am while I was sleeping, there was a purchase of R7442 on my Capitec Credit Card in Kempton Park, how is that possible
I had R4000 available balance on my credit, if it was me the transaction was going to reject and say insufficient funds, but on this fraudulent transaction Capitec allowed it why ??
I called them, im asking these questions they don't have answers, its so easy for fraudsters at Capitec why

Capitec has allowed multiple fraudulent transactions to take place on my business bank account.
I reported the transactions as fraudulent; I was advised that someone will be in contact with me.
To date, no one from Capitec as reached out. I called in and was advised that the case if being investigated and it will take 30 days.
My business bank account was EMPTIED Capitec Failed me as a bank as they allowed this to happen on their watch. The response is sorry, we allowed fraud on your account and lost all your money, we will investigate what went wrong. UNACCEPTABLE.
I was not negligent, nor did I share my details with anyone.

For days, I have received a minimum of 10 calls per day from their team, despite repeatedly explaining that this number no longer belongs to the person they are trying to reach. It was previously a work number, and I have made this clear multiple times.
Instead of resolving the issue, their representatives became arrogant, rude, and completely unprofessional. They even demanded my personal details, which is highly inappropriate and a violation of privacy. This is harassment, plain and simple. No company should treat people this way.
Capitec needs to update their records immediately, stop this relentless calling, and train their staff on basic courtesy and compliance with POPIA (Protection of Personal Information Act).
This experience has left me with a very negative impression of Capitec. If this is how they treat people who are not even their clients, I can only imagine how they handle actual customers.
