BoardGameGeek Ignores & Does Not Enforce DMCA Takedown Requests
A number years ago I invented, published and sold a board game.
Printed materials are registered with the U.S. Copyright Office under a registration number.
One or more persons created a entry for this game on BoardGameGeek.
This entry includes photos of my copyrighted material, my name and my company name without my permission. This included the board game, rule booklet and a copyright notice label on the side of the game. This article also included a photo of the cover of the book manual that contained my autograph
I filed a DMCA takedown for materials in 2024 and various images were removed.
The lead image in the article that is suppose to be about my game is now a photo of a pirated version of my game with the caption of "DIT wooden...". This image is now being used on other sites to represent my game.
A image of the board game and of its copyright label have been added back tot he article or were never entirely removed.
BoardGameGeek has not been authorized to use any of my IP, my name, my company name or my product's name on its site. BoardGameGeek is using my IP to profit through various means such as selling ads. This is called theft.
They now reply:
"BoardGameGeek.com is like Wikipedia for board games - we are an information resource to learn about games. Most of the information you see is provided by our community. You will need to contact the contributing user directly."
Platforms (ISPs, websites) lose protection under Section 512(c) when they no longer act as passive intermediaries. BoardGameGeek is ignoring DMCA takedown requests.
The entry for this game also contains false information about its use, which means the person adding this information does not have a copy of the rules or does and does not understand English. The site also refuses to remove this information.
Intolerant Company; stay away if you just want to enjoy games.
I was banned from the BBG Facebook group ran by BGG for replying to someone openly bashing Trump on a post that was about a card game and had nothing to do with politics. All I asked was "can we keep politics out of board game discussions?" When e-mailing the website about what rule did I break, they responded "what's done is done". Regardless if you are left, right, center, or non-political, if you choose to not participate with bashing the Trump administration, they deem you an enemy and remove you from their community.
Horribly biased and hypocritical.
If I could give them zero stars, I would. They removed my husband from the group when he asked people to keep politics out of a post. He didn't share any of his political views at all.
Their number one rule says they do not tolerate intolerance, that they value diversity, and do not want to actively exlude anyone. But they did just that when they removed my husband.
Be advised that if you try to remain neutral and not jump on the political band wagon, they will silence you.
Massive database of boardgames information.
Well architected with all the key information such as numbers of players including the optimal number of players. It includes the details of expansions sets.
It allows you to catalogue your own games list directly from the listind.
A great and very with an extensive knowledge base for boardgamers.
The community is basically a big echo chamber.
The community is basically a big echo chamber, where you get silenced or banned if you don't 100% support their political view.
To give my experience, my post was moderated and canceled because, ironically, i was writing against the censorship derived from political correctness.
Their Database is very good though, it's worth being there only for that. But stay away from forums if you are not a mindless political drone.
An extremely intolerant board game website.
This site seemed fine at first, but it wasn't long before it showed its true colours. One day I tried logging into my account only to find that I couldn't access any pages, I was met with a message saying that I was not allowed to view anything. After sending a message to the mods I was told that my account had been banned for trolling. I asked them what I did which would be considered trolling but received no replies to any messages from that point onward. To this day I still do not know what it is that I supposedly did wrong.
The accusation of trolling is absurd since I only used the site to download fan made files for my games, and to rate games which I enjoy.
I have heard many horror stories about the moderation of this website, people being banned for no reason, and the mods abusing their power.
After looking into the site a bit more I found that the mods appear to be very intolerant. If someone even slightly disagrees with their beliefs or world views they will be banned. If someone has an opinion that a mod doesn't agree with, they will be banned. If someone rates a game in a way the mods don't like, they will be banned, etc.
A lot of the complaints I have heard about the site also come down to politics, the mods are very political and will not tolerate anyone who they even think isn't on their side of the political isle. They need to set their politics aside and focus on what the website is supposed to be about, that being board games.

Today I received several texts from this company saying I’d agreed to receive alerts from them. I’ve never even visited their website let alone agreed to receive any form of communication from them. I wonder what other scams they’re running.
Banned after negative comments about pronouns
Banned after negative comments about pronouns/woke culture in a board game. My mates were banned because they disagreed with someone else opinion about lack of female characters in certain title. admins of this site are typical social justice warriors and if you don't agree with them you get banned. Pathetic
woke anti trump site no longer about games
Would be zero if I could. This is no longer a site about boardgames it is for the mods to push their woke agenda and if you question this they kick you off.
They deactivated my profile as they said I was a trump supporter, firstly I am from UK and didn't care who won election and secondly I used the site for boardgame info not politics. We desperately need a new site that is for games and gamers not this woke rubbish.

The forums are haunted by extremist left wing moderators who ban anyone for disagreeing or even politely questioning woke views. We need a neutral rival website.
NEW ACCOUNT DEACTIVATED!
I recently made an account on this site, rated and commented on a game and my account was deactivated without any kind of notice. I confirmed my email address and everything. Other have had the same issue for new accounts as well. How can we trust a business that can just deactivate legitimate accounts the way they are? Do better BGG...
No longer gamer friendly.
They used to be a player focused site for game related discussions and news. Ever since Trump's presidency, they've been taken over by woke "Orange Man bad" weirdos. They actively censor and ban anyone who doesn't follow their agenda, or *GASP!* defends Trump or conservative values. No longer a gamers site, now it's like a board game version of CNN.
One of its moderators insulted me
One of its moderators insulted me. He/She didnt agree with my view and that was enough for him.
Intolerant community
Well, this is technically the best board game resource place on the internet, however their politics around discussions represent very intolerant, biased and radical view.
The portal seems to be led by a far left wing moderators that delete any comments they don't agree with - and I don't mean rude or disrespectful comments, no - they delete everything they don't like, even when your point is valid and your post polite. They only accept left-wing point of view and delete anything else. This leads to portal being taken over by left wing, or maybe shall I say WOKE people who engage in their usual witch-hunting activites by trying to cancel people, games or even game designers if they say anything that woke brigade may find offensive - even if it's a totally abstract subject...
Incredibly politicized and bigoted
Incredibly politicized and bigoted. No more about games but identity woke politics, and a bunch of racially motivated (e.g. racist?) censors. Skip it like hell if you have children.

Lots of little expansion extras for…
Lots of little expansion extras for cheap, promo cards, some Dice Tower odds -n- ends, game day organizers, way lower than used resale websites. A little candy shop ... for board gamers.
Mind-readers truly
I bought some extra pieces for a fan-made expansion of a boardgame. I ordered multiple different pieces, but I had mistakenly picked the wrong variant of a specific item. You could figure out from context that this variant was wrong. BGG store sent me all different pieces in my order INCLUDING the CORRECT variant of the item I meant to order (without extra charge)! Mind-readers truly.
Except for these slightly worrisome mind-reading capabilities, the order arrived timely and securely packaged - nothing was damaged.
Salazar come back from the death to admin the website
Website where liberty of expression is not an option unless you are a radical woke person that gets offended by anything. If you have a different opinion from admins you will get banned or suspended. Just the most ridiculous thing ever.
