I decided to try Allurion hoping to take advantage of the much-vaunted early satiety effect to finally lose about 10 kilograms of excess weight.

The placement procedure was unbearable, as I struggled to control gag reflexes caused by hypersalivation. However, that wasn’t the main issue. Neither were the three subsequent days of EXCRUCIATING CRAMPS (barely responsive to intramuscular antispasmodics, despite my generally high pain threshold—and I say this with full awareness as a surgeon by profession, understanding from a medical perspective what is normal and what isn’t).

The real issue lies in the complete failure during the following weeks. Once I overcame the initial psychological terror—being told that eating larger quantities would cause significant discomfort—I discovered that Allurion did not induce any sense of early satiety.

Out of pure curiosity, I ate the same portions I had been told I wouldn’t be able to manage, only to find that there was absolutely no issue doing so. Contrary to the claims, Allurion did not affect my ability to consume normal amounts of food.

Now, two months later, I still experience an unpleasant sense of discomfort when lying on my back. I have also developed issues such as excessive burping, acid reflux, and constipation—conditions I had never experienced before in my life.

Adding to this is the painful frustration of having spent money on a device that, on balance, has only brought me physical and mental discomfort.

I do not suffer from obesity; my issue was mild overweight. My advice? Spend that money on a gym membership instead—don’t waste it on this useless device.

P.S. I have never written a review for anything in my life. The anger I feel over being misled by this device has compelled me to write one, hoping to dissuade someone who, like me, struggles with losing weight. Instead, consider undergoing surgery—it’s a far better option.

Mi sono presentata all'appuntamento molto scettica, ho sempre avuto problemi di peso e difficoltà a gestire le diete. Ho espresso i miei dubbi e le mie preoccupazioni in merito al fatto che soffro di un'importante fame emotiva e di insulinoresistenza. Mi sono convinta a posizionare il palloncino perché mi è stato presentato come un aiuto concreto, come un ingombro capace di creare sazietà precoce, riducendo non solo la quantità di cibo necessaria al senso di sazietà, ma anche eventualmente la voglia di mangiare fuori pasto.
Cosa devo dire? Ho perso 4 kili esclusivamente nei primi dieci giorni di dieta liquida, e poi mi sono fermata. Non sentivo l'ingombro, non avvertivo la presenza del palloncino, nessuna pressione dopo aver mangiato o bevuto, non c'è stata assolutamente riduzione dell'appetito, anzi! Quando dopo 1 mese ho espresso queste preoccupazioni sono stata liquidata alla svelta. Altro che supporto in toto durante il percorso! Sono stata lasciata da sola, con la mi fame! Ho combattuto per oltre 3 mesi con i crampi della fame, facendomi violenza per non mangiare! A nulla è servito masticare piano, contare fino a 30, non distrarsi e tutte le cavolate della mindfulness...
Sicuramente presenterò ricorso.

Dr Balli & her team - nutritionist & translator were extremely professional during the whole process and aftercare and with their guidance I reached my goal weight. Having had this procedure done by them the cost was so much cheaper than doing it in the UK, I cannot recommend them highly enough

I had a consult with Joy, and she was very helpful and informative. I am still thinking about the balloon as my GP has recommended surgery, but I am impressed with the information I was given and will speak to the clinic.

Dopo 10 giorni ho iniziato a stare malissimo, vomito e nausea che mi impedivano il normale svolgimento della vita e del lavoro.
Cessato il vomito la fame c'era eccome.
E' servito solo a spendere BEN EURO 2.500,00 e mi hanno abbonato l'ultimo pagamento

I was very sceptical about the Allurion balloon. I must admit the adverts on Instagram etc. all seemed quite farfetched.

I decided to go through with it, when I was approved to have it paid for through my Superannuation, which meant my only out of pocket expenses would be medication taken during the process.

I have lost approx., 15 kilograms in 18 weeks and my family and friends keep being shocked in my weight/shape change. I am now considering a career change, because I find fitness is something that I can more readily approach. I no longer get joint pains when walking or using stairs, and I am sleeping better and have greater mobility.

The first 6 days after placement were extremely unpleasant. I won't butter this up, I genuinely was heavily considering getting it removed on day 2-4 due to the fact I couldn't eat at all without vomiting. Once day 6 rolled around I realised I was good on soft liquid-ish foods such as custard proteins etc. I lost 4.5kgs within the first week due to my body not really knowing what to do.

The following week it all settled down, and I was able to reintroduce foods that I was more accustomed to. I found I was comfortably able to move to a 1550 calorie diet without feeling hungry, and after 4 weeks on the program started Mounjaro to reduce the snacking that I was tempted by.

I now am fairly confident that my balloon has broken down (I believe I'm on week 19) and my weight has stayed low, and I am remaining on my 1550 calorie diet.

I think this is a great program if you have the flexibility to take about a week off work and are willing to forsake some sleep etc. You will experience reflux, cramps, discomfort and nausea for a good week, and I would suggest getting yourself on Esomeporazole for reflux for the duration of the program.

I have not been as skinny as I am now since I was a teenager, and I have genuinely battled with my weight for a decade.

I will rate this 5 starts and I have suggested the program to some colleagues who are battling their weight loss.

My lessons learnt were:
1. Take a week or perhaps 10 days off work or expectations (have a partner watch the kids etc) because you'll feel really REALLY gross.

2. Consider it a way to help you make the lifestyle change. I found I needed to start buying ready-made meals like MyMuscleChef etc. to start better tracking my calorie intake. and this means I had to use MyFitnessPal to track my intakes to better understand what changes I needed to make to continue this path moving forward

3. USE THE MEDICATION! They give you a lot of medication to reduce cramps and help you sleep - I was a 'trooper' and tried to not use it. By day three my partner told me I was being an idiot and to 'take the damn pills'. I would never tell her, but she was right.

4. Avoid greasy, fatty or oily foods. I have found I cannot eat Pizza at all. But if I go to the pub I can have a steak or even an Entree for a full meal with no issues.

El balón no sirve absolutamente para nada. Os lo digo de verdad. No te entrampes en esto. Antes de empezar tienes que estar una semana antes ya con dieta super super estricta, casi sin comer. Y 3 días antes de ponértelo, solo puedes beber 3 batidos al día que también valen una pasta y que no tienen nada de saciantes. Ya antes de empezar has perdido 2 kilos por no comer.
Luego te ponen el balón, te lo inflan a más no poder, en mi caso me sentó fatal, tuve que pedir hasta una baja médica por 1 mes, los vómitos eran horrorosos, de madrugada no paraba, no podía dormir y me sentía enferma como nunca en la vida. Así claro que pierdes peso…vomita lo poco que comes durante 1 mes entero, a ver si no pierdes peso !! Con todo eso apenas perdí 7 kilos, que en cuanto tu estómago se acostumbra a tener esa bola y que además poco a poco se va desinflando dentro ya tienes hambre. Así que el balón se siente 0. No hace nada.
En resumen, si te pones a hacer deporte y dieta que es básicamente lo que te van a decir que tienes que hacer, perderás lo mismo pero sin dejarte la salud.
