Useless VISA customer service
Useless VISA customer service. I was sent the wrong trainers by a company in the USA. Not only they were wrong (men’s instead of ladies) but they were also fake. The company wouldn’t pay for the return although it was their mistake. AIB just told me to return them, never reply to my emails and closed the case and told me to deal with the suppliers who are obviously scammers. I will be changing to another bank as soon as possible. This is not the first negative experience I have with them. Not good. Avoid.
I've had an account for 25 years
I've had an account for 25 years, they closed it down for no reason, only 70 euros in it. Made it impossible to unlock it, had to call the branch and send enough documents to get into north Korea, still didn't unlock it. And this is 70 euros. No wonder people are moving away from the big banks.
AIB app old tech done badly
AIB is many years late to competing with the ease Revolut brought to money transfers. Now their attempt to match this has only succeeded in making money transfer between my own accounts much more laborious. This is compounded by the bank increasingly pushing customers towards online banking.
In a world where moving is becoming easier inertia is only going to keep me with them for so long, be warned AIB - your app sucks.

If I could give AIB 0 Stars I would. This bank is absolutely atrocious. The bank app is constantly plagued with glitches and bugs which make doing even the most straightforward tasks like sending funds almost impossible.
Their payment processes and infrastructure are totally antiquated which means delays for transfers into and out of the accounts are constantly delayed and frozen.
The small number of physical branches mean that it is a constant inconvenience of having to travel distances to use their in person banking services.
Honestly judged by every metric this bank is totally unfit for purpose.
It is for this reason that as a family we are in the process of closing all our accounts and switching to other banks.
Please do not use this bank. They are atrocious!!!
AIB No!!
I’ve been trying since October 2024 to open a simple saver account with AIB, and the whole process has been a complete disaster. The staff never replied to my email, never rang me back — nothing. The account is finally open now, but I can’t even put money into it. Completely pointless. I’m closing it.
Yes, the staff are nice enough in person, but nice doesn’t make up for zero action or results. This is the worst bank I’ve ever dealt with.
PTSB is far better for personal banking, and for business I’d always go with Bank of Ireland. AIB? Absolutely not.

I received a letter that they will block my card because I used it twice in another country, of course they couldn't reach me because I'm not in Ireland, today I called the number from the letter, I talked to Victoria who didn't want to unblock my card because she thinks it's not me even though she got answers to all the questions, date of birth, street where I live, registration number, phone number, last transactions, 5 digit number
RUDE CUSTOMER SERVICE AGENT
The customer service agent whom I spoke to on the phone was extremely rude and arrogant. She obviously has issues and should not be allowed to deal with members of the public.
AIB Knowingly are worst CUSTOMER banking service in the world.
It has taken over a year to Open a Joint Ac at AIB for two current AIB Bank account Holders who are brothers and have accounts at the same branch. The activation of the account was a protracted process nightmare. No one at AIB could answer questions to enable the set up of the account unless both of us visited the branch at the same time. We both live abroad which made this very very difficult.
Since opening the account we are not able to access funds to transfer to pay bills or move money to settle debts. The cards for the account are restricted and so cannot be used externally.
With more than 150k in an account i have contacted Phone banking to be told that due to a Iphone update my account transfer limit has been reset to 0 and will change to €250 per day and i cannot transfer any funds today or tomorrow. I am speechless at how bad AIB ARE AS A BANK. They hide behind excuses and acknowledge there process are terrible while being very pleasant and actively un apologetic about how bad they are. DO NOT BANK WITH AIB UNLESS THERE ARE NO OTHER ALTERNATIVES.

From the very beginning of the call, Sophie was courteous, clear, and reassuring. She listened attentively, addressed my queries thoroughly, and made what could have been a complicated process feel simple and stress-free.
What really stood out was her genuine patience and her ability to explain everything in plain, easy-to-understand language—no jargon, no rush, just real help. She clearly knows her job inside out, but more importantly, she knows how to communicate with care and confidence.
In a world where good customer service can sometimes feel rare, Sophie is a true credit to AIB. Calls like that are the reason I continue to bank with AIB. Thank you again, Sophie!
Worst service
Worst service, I tried to open an current account online , their pronunciation I don’t understand, I asked them speak little slowly, but they cut the call 4times after that I open an account in bank of Ireland , I couldn’t rating zero, if I can I would give zero rating for this service

Treated like a criminal trying to open an account, I was interrogated in the foyer , by a lady enamoured with her own self importance, one of the most unprofessional experiences ever. I walk across the street to a competitor.

Not going to lie I'd never heard of this bank until I'd become a victim of identity fraud that hmrc brought to my attention got to say they had absolutely no interest in trying to help me and obviously trying to cover the reputation of the bank, now in the hands of officials and I've been told there getting the same response.
Behind the times
Limits on bank transfers are per day - except on weekends, when you have to wait until Tuesday to send another transfer over the daily limit.
eStatements somehow take 24 hours to generate. Ordered mine on a Saturday and I guess I'll have to wait til Tuesday.
Any time I've had to deal with staff on the phone, it's been seamless. But their app is 5 years behind. Even my tiny credit union can give instant statements.
Fraud line is ridiculous
Card locked while abroad, called their out of hours line and the man on the phone clearly had no interest in helping and sounded like he was outside with wind blowing in the background? Asked the home address and I gave him both my addresses and he said I needed to call back the next working day( this is Saturday!) to speak with someone during working hours? What can someone do in two days time that he can’t? So frustrating, immediately taking all my money from my account as soon as I can flippin access it
An Irish embarassment
Just made another attempt to access AIB's new selfie check which they're rolling out to replace card reader services.
Another is the key word in that sentence.
Because every attempt to do so has failed so far.
And guess what ? Today's attempt was another failure.
Took the selfie on cue with the green light accepting the photo - then nothing.
Tried five more times then gave up. Again.
AIB's IT department - housed as it is in the monkey section of Dublin Zoo - is atrocious.
The app barely functions adequately and never when I'm abroad.
Fortunately most of my funds have long since been moved to a real digital bank.
I wouldn't trust them with this shower of pound-shop jokers.
To think taxpayers had to bail out these useless chumps years ago and they still behave like a small town rural bank with a whiff of manure wafting in every time someone opens the front door.
If you're thinking about trying to do business with them just ask yourself why there's a tsunami of appalling reviews of AIB on here.
I can think of at least two.

Continued diabolical reviews and no action from AIB or the Irish government. IBB down nearly every other evening I go to do some business banking and then never able to pay without hours of effort online because of the integration for 3DS. Fed up and need a new provider
AIB sort your app issues out!
It's understandable that banks will push you to use online banking these days, however most banks provide an app for this that works. AIB do not. The glitches and circular 'technical issues' that bring you back incessantly to the login screen are legendary - just check a few reviews here. AIB need to get their software issues sorted out as a priority. This is most people's main interaction with the bank and it is uniformly terrible.

Had enough of aibs insane bank charges and late direct debit fees I'm also closing my account due to these issues and transferring to bank of Ireland even said to aib I was closing my account they didn't even try to keep me didn't care goes to show what they really think of customers would rather bank with anyone else except these anymore.
