Wheelchair purchasing made simple
I went in on Saturday to get a wheelchair for myself. I'm 33 with progressive MS. I never thought I'd need to buy a chair at this age but the lady in the shop was absolutely amazing. So helpful and knowledgeable, she made the whole process easy and I left with a comfortable chair and everything I need to know! I can't thank her enough for being so lovely!

Faulty wheelchair
I bought a wheelchair for my terminally ill husband.
I did not get the opportunity to try the chair outside on the uneven pavements as I now believe to be the correct way of selling.
When I tried it at home, it was impossible to keep straight and the left side handle fell off 4 times in 100yd journey. I took it back the following day and was told that because it had been used ( the plastic was still on the tyres) I could not have a full refund, only partial.
I had to accept that as the chair was of no use to me.
When I took it back, the sales lady was selling a chair to an elderley gent and she insisted he try it outside - I did not get that advice and having never had cause to use a wheelchair did not even think of it. I think I should have been given better advice prior to the purchase.

Thank you for your recent review regarding a wheelchair that you purchased for your husband from Ableworld Birkenhead store.
The relevant manager was aware of the issue you had raised with the wheelchair and emailed you to inform you she was sorry that the wheelchair was not working out for you and suggested bringing it back to the store with confirmation of the payment method so that the store manager could take a look over it. It was reiterated to you that a full refund, unfortunately would not be given with any indication of deterioration over and above natural wear and tear. The manager was happy to have an engineer to take a look at the handle. You confirmed back by an email response to thank the store manager.
In the meantime, I would like to thank you for taking the time to submit your review and assure you that we do consider every request from our customers individually and in detail.

Excellent product knowledge and Customer service
We have just purchased a wheelchair for my wife. We compared Ableworld's shop with that of another national chain, and had no hesitation in choosing Ableworld Birkenhead. A's staff were so much more understanding and knowledgeable. In particular, A's sales assistant, Lyn, was everything you could ask for in knowledge and helpfulness. She cheerfully showed us 4 different models, explaining their differences and strengths. She helped my wife try out the ones we liked, pointing out the features of relevance to us, and how to use the chair safely. Thank you, Lyn.
