Problems with excess charge

The mark of a good car rental company perhaps only shows when things go wrong. I was unlucky enough for someone to reverse into my rental car, although damage was negligible to the rental. The problems began when I returned it. Although Apex declared the car in satisfactory condition, they took the damage deposit from my credit card on the grounds that a third party may claim against Apex (although there is no mention of this in the T&C and the third party admitted liability anyway). I was in a limbo where I couldn't even claim on my own excess insurance.

Apex's admin is chaotic and inefficient. I did get my money back after several weeks and many email exchanges and complaints, but it was hassle I could have done without. The car itself was okay during the hire though it rattled badly.

For the above reasons, I can't recommend this company. Moral is check with whichever hire company you choose exactly what happens in the event of a collision.
