I came from Brazil specifically to take the Music Business Fundamentals course at SMB. It was an investment in terms of money and time, but it was totally worth it. Matt is a very professional tutor. He cares about the career of his students and his previous experience in the industry can help SMB alumni to have a clearer panorama of the sector. Highly recommended!

As an independent music producer, I found SMB's course really useful. I learnt a huge amount in 5 Saturdays, (but I was sad at the end, I wanted to keep learning!) I feel more confident in working my way through the industry now! Matt was a great teacher and made the class inclusive, fun and engaging. Highly recommended.

Having taken the SMB course on the fundamentals of the music business I have a much clearer idea now of how the industry works and the different avenues for making money from music. The format of the course and how the topics were presented was very clear and easy to follow for topics that could be quite complex. It was very useful to learn more about streaming and how it affects music consumption. Matt is a great tutor, very considerate and enthusiastic and eager to pass on his knowledge, giving examples of his lived experiences. Recommended for anyone wanting to navigate their way in the industry.

I’ve completed the Record Business Label and Artist Management course and I’m in the middle of doing the Music Marketing and Promotions course. The first course was tutored by Jack who owns an independent label which is doing very well and so Jack is a mountain of knowledge and past his knowledge on in a very easy and practical way for anyone to understand and then utilise within either their own label or working for another label. The Artist Management course was amazing, taught by Matt who owns and runs a very successful Management company we learnt so much about this part of the industry in a very clear way which I will certainly use in all areas of my future business/career. I took from it that being an Artist Manager isn’t easy but can be very exciting and rewarding and I know that by applying Matts tried and tested methods to be the best will benefit myself and the Artists I manage. I’m really enjoying the Marketing and Promotions course, the information is bang up to date as this is an ever changing industry and the technology used to market and promote is constantly evolving. Matt is on top of the changes and is a wealth of Knowlage on how to use them and get the absolute best results for your artists, label and yourself. I always look forward to each class as it’s fun and presented in a way which even someone with limited knowledge can understand and use. Thanks guys, I will leave a different person to who I was when I 1st walked in and will use all I’ve learnt to succeed in this industry and help others to realise their dreams.

I joined the SMB on the for a taster in to Artist Management and found the course extremely informative and fun. I will be taking more courses with them as my career progresses.

Every session of the course was filled with so much information that was instantly applicable and useful in my music work. The tutor, Matt, was full of great advice and top stories. Loved it - hope to come back for another course soon!

I just finished Music Business Fundamentals with Matt Errington at SMB and can not speak highly enough about the course and Matt. It has given me a total understanding of current music business practices which has enabled me to enjoy a re-birth in music for which I am truly grateful. Music Marketing and Promotions course: I went into the program having attained numerous years worth of experience in marketing as well as being involved in the music industry for many years. So I was under the impression that I already know most of what Matt will teach us. But when i sat down for the first class, in the first hour i realised i dont know anything at all! #tradesecrets

Moral of the story: dont let ego (or a small amount of paper currency) get in the way of Matt teaching you what other industry pros don't want you to know ;)

The course has helped me to have a better knowledge of the industry. And it has motivated me to start a career in the music industry. I just completed the 5 week Music Business Fundamentals Course under the tutelage of Matt Errington. Finding the SMB website was a blessing as I had started to doubt that I would ever find a way in to the music industry. This course was great for someone like me who came in with a huge passion for music and a desire to work in the industry but who has no experience, connections or real understanding of the inner workings. As much as I am sad the course is over (although I have just signed up to the Music Publishing, Sync and Licensing course starting this week), I feel armed with enough practical knowledge to get my career in music off the ground. Inspired by Matt's own story of how he first became an Artist Manager, I have just begun managing a singer/songwriter - something I would never have had the confidence to do before taking the course.
As a tutor, Matt is incredibly knowledgable and very concise in the way he delivers the information. He takes time to make sure you have understood the information and follows up each session by emailing you his very detailed notes (which are already proving invaluable).
I would encourage anyone considering a course at SMB to do it. Not only does it save hours of painstaking online searches and headaches, it's also taught by someone currently working in the industry so you are guaranteed the information you are taught is up-to-date.

I decided to do the marketing and promotions course to learn more about the finer details and methods of music marketing. Apart from achieving this I also gained a good relationship with the tutor Matt, who is an excellent teacher. He is open and approachable, and adapts to his students accordingly to make sure they get the most out of it. The knowledge I now have of how to market an artist is much greater and I cannot wait to start putting this into practice.

One of the best parts of the course is the wider discussion on current music industry topics that can range from the effects of Spotify's recent IPO to YouTube's new paid subscription service. This allows you to think more effectively what you have learnt around the current musical landscape. I would recommend this course to anyone wanting to learn the ropes or gain a great insight into how the industry works.

So I enrolled on the 'Artist Management Course', having no industry experience and knowledge apart from running and managing a few music events....

The course it self is broken down really well into modules and over 4 weeks and you are given real life scenarios which helps and makes you feel more confident after the course in handling business for your artist..

The course instructor 'Matt Errington' was full knowledge and advice, his after service of help and question answering gives me confidence i chose the right course and company... He is a credit to the music industry !

It was well worth travelling down from Birmingham each week !

I not only thoroughly enjoyed my Music Marketing course at SMB, but I was able to acquire a decent amount of knowledge in a short amount of time. In addition to this, the school's support both during and after the course has been excellent; not only guiding me, but assisting me in beginning my career in the industry. I would very much recommend SMB!
