I went to a local station to get some groceries (Not fuel) a few weeks later I received a letter from VARS Technology saying I didn’t pay for fuel. I asked them for proof, and they sent me a picture of my vehicle leaving the station and demanding payment. I went back to the station and spoke to the manager. They took a look at the CCTV and it turns out my vehicle went nowhere near a fuel pump. No apology from VARS, just threats of legal action.

Absolutely unscrupulous scam of a company. Trying to issue a parking fine at my local Asda express saying I overstayed when all I did was make 2 seperate 5 minute visits throughout the day. They have put the onus on me to prove I didn't overstay when it should be on them to prove that I did. They really want me to believe that 1 camera missed me leaving the first time and a 2nd camera missed me entering the second time. Won't answer my freedom of information request on how many false double dip offences they have logged at this site. Can't wait to see them in court. Absolute scum

I went to fill up with diesel at Canford Heath Asda. I put my bank debit card into the reader on the pump and fed in my pin number. For some reason the screen went blank so I tried again with success and the card was approved. I filled up and went on my way. Now I've got an accusation of driving off without paying. Having visited my bank I find that they had authorised both attempts but asda had failed to take their money. I now have a threatening letter from these people and have to wait for them to sort this as they're very busy. No surprise there! 15th April 2026 and still no reply other than another notice, this time for £107.41, which, obviously, I won't be paying. I notice from prior reviews that I'm not alone in Poole to get accused of stealing. Haven't, and won't, shop at asda again for anything.

Asked me to pay for parking in a private car park where there were no clear signs on entering the area that the area was restricted limited parking. I submitted in photos of the evidence of no signs and the will not accept this, not will the provide and relevant polpa reference for further issues

I returned back within 30 minutes and paid £17.60 without issues.

I've spent more than 3months on behalf of my 86 year old father in law defending a claim /fine of £100+
After speaking to his bank manager to obtain evidence of payment, bank manager confirmed they are regularly approached for such information and it's a well known scam. Received a 3 line e-mail from Vars today saying fuel station has confirmed he paid and so they are 'closing their case' - These people need to be shamed.

Absolutely horrendous company no telephone number to come contact them on hide behind a faceless email, I made payments for my petrol on my business account but received a letter saying that I hadn't but that it was an error on the petrol stations end so I asked that I would like to go and check my account to make sure I had not to be charged as did not want to be charged twice, I assumed while this was under investigation the charge would be paused but now I have been sent a letter with an additional fee for not paying customer should be allowed the time to investigate rather than just being sent a letter demanding money that they have already paid!! absolutely disgusting behaviour, horrendous company to deal with! Should be ashamed of themselves! Should also be able to leave a zero star review as that is what they deserve!

Horrible company. Cashier did not charge me for petrol and so I didn't pay for it. Sent me a letter received two weeks after date on letter. Charged me £50 for £15 worth of petrol. AVOID ASDA for using a company like this.

I must of used £15 of petrol but got distracted by buying a meal and a coffee and payed for everything else but forgot about the fuel...then get a final warning letter by Vars saying I owe £85 with no first letter...so I was confused by it all as I never in my life not payed for my fuel,
There was no number to call only a email so I sent them two emails trying to explain what happened with no reply then the next day I get a bailiff letter by Dcbi agency asking for £145
Which u felt pressured to pay as I can no longer fuel up, as Vars put me on a band on all petrol stations.
So a simple mistake that's now cost me £145...I think vars never did send me a first letter, just to hike up the money...I will be contacting my MP about this rip off company.
Funny how there is no contact number for vars, just a email which they don't get back to you.

Online thugs demanding money with threats. Someone has cloned our car, they have been given the police crime reference number, insurance and dvla have been notified and this company are still demanding money. You can see from their photo that it isn’t us.

Sent me a letter saying I drove away and didn't pay for £40.01 fuel. I have provided evidence by a reciept and bank statement to say I paid. Now demanding more money. I won't be paying take me to court. No telephone number, emails left u responded too. This company is a scam for sure

Just had the delight of this company getting in touch to say we drove off without paying for fuel at Asda petrol station fosse park Leicester - just having checked the bank account we did pay but were undercharged! (Yes we should have checked but when paying with chip and pin do you check every receipt or just pop it in the wallet and off you tootle - you live and learn) Seems like such a scam and no way to make any meaningful contact. Sorry Asda we will vote with our feet and never use you for fuel again.

Poor system lack of communication. I was undercharged by the cashier however no way of getting in contact or a reply from VARS Technology to amend their charge to reflect what the cashier rang through the till. I suggest we all post on the VARS Technology and Andrew Dodds MD LinkedIn page to highlight the lack of systems within this organisation. Maybe this will persuade them to change their ways.

What’s frustrating is not the original error as mistakes happen but the complete lack of an accessible way to speak to anyone when things go wrong!!!!

With more than 100+ one‑star reviews on Trustpilot and even coverage in the national press (The Guardian), it feels like VARS Technology would benefit from investing less energy in conferences and more in building a responsive contact centre that can actually support their customers.

A modern payments or vehicle service provider needs more than slick marketing it needs a way for customers to reach a real person when something doesn’t add up!

My son was served a drive off notice at an ASDA petrol station. He realised he had gone off the forecourt and went immediately and paid and the attendant said he had cancelled the notice. My son has evidence of this with receipt and the cancelled notice. My son even called the police as he was worried and they said that was OK. Despite submitting attachments of the payment evidence by email and then a week later on their portal they send a second increased demand. Do they actually read the contact forms submitted? This is causing a great deal of stress for a guy with mental health issues and a family who just want to do the right thing. No contact phone number is an opt out and very suspicious.

This campany is a scam. Put petrol with fuel card which is acceptable at esso petrol station but for some reason the petrol refused to accept the card at the petrol station the cashier couldn't provide means of payments said the vars will call regarding payment vars never called received the letter 7 days later already with increase fine. The company require reference to make payments this wasnt provided at the petrol until the letter was received charging extra 17 pounds. Scamming customers money to enrich themselves. Avoid them like plaque

This company sent me a demanding letter to pay for fuel that I have proof I have already paid - there is no phone number so I cannot call to clarify this, the on line form doesn't work as when you ask to message they say they will send a validation email that never arrives, I have no idea how to resolve this matter but I am presuming it is a scam if no one can deal with this and due to me paying in the first place.

Just had to reluctantly pay £150 to this scam company. Apparently due to driving off without paying for petrol at East Ayton Shell Garage, Scarborough YO13 9HL. I went in to pay and remember it vividly as the pump I used was leaking, petrol went everywhere and I had to move pumps. Went inside to wash my hands and then paid for my petrol!! They don't provide you with evidence of the non payment and there is no reason stated for the fine within the app the debt collection agency told me to download. All they say is if you don't pay you'll get taken to court. All reviews say the same, a big scam but they are getting away with it and will put a CCJ on your file if you don't pay up?! How is this company getting away with this?!

Further to my Last Review...Today i received closure of drive off Notice...I provided evidence from DVLA plus a True likeness Set of images signed by a Police officer ..These were sent off.. Claimed to have been lost.. Duplicate sent off with name of email Rep.. Recorded delivery.. DVLA had not updated disposal of car on their Records ..That fed Vars Technology False information corrected at a later date...The images sent ..Well an Old Person compared to the Blurred image on First and Final Demand...This has Taken Three Months to Clear my name...I urge all in this situation Please Keep Going and Good Luck ..Always get Receipts in Garages and Make sure you have Done the correct Procedure in Car Parks. .Thank you and Good Luck.

I recieved a drive off notice in the post on the 6th January saying that I supposedly drove off without paying for fuel on 7th December. The notice states that I dispensed 14.37 litres of fuel at a cost of £20.10. I sent an email straight away with a copy of my bank statement that shows the payment for £40. The only thing I did was put fuel in and I paid for it. I've also found out that they overwrite CCTV after 30 days. The letter arrived 30 days after I supposedly drove off... very convenient. It took them nearly 2 weeks to respond and say they're in contact with the forecourt. I've now recieved another letter saying that the fee has increased and threatening to take me to court. I have chased them again as it's a joke. I paid and have proof. I would never just put in £20.10 worth of fuel. I always do a minimum of £40 or just fill it. On about causing stress.

Terrible company I called at a garage on Coventry Road to fill up as I was filling I felt in my pocket and had left my money at home I stopped filling and had put in £6.54 I went into the garage explained to the girl my predicament gave her my address car and telephone number told her I would be back that day I called back about hour and half later the girl had gone off shift the man on duty new nothing about it he would not let me pay it !! I asked for the manager he would be in on the following day to cut a long story short I made 16 phone calls and 6 visits to get the manager when I finally got him he said I had to wait till I had a letter from VARS he would not let me pay him !! I eventually got a bill from them for £41 I called in the garage the next day.he cancelled it and said I had to wait till I got a bill of them again which I did about a week later for £13.04 I was that fed up
I paid it although at no time did I ever try to drive off and left all my details they charged me an extra £6 which I paid straight away I am still getting bills of them !! I’m a 78 years old pensioner and it’s really getting me down !!!
