Trademe use to be reliable. But, it protects the business rather than their consumers. Like many others in the reviews. Getting good scanned by a business and can't place feedback to warn others. Trademe just deletes my feedback saying lack of effort to resolve. Though showed my emails trying to resolve.

After being scammed by a seller on trade me I requested a refund after weeks of hearing very little I’ve been told I need to arrange a courier I’m working 14hour days and do not have the time I’ve asked that the seller who scammed me organises shipping back as I’ve already covered the costs for sending and given up so much of my time.
Is there no protection against scams on your website?

They've downgraded their site and call it an upgrade. Impossible to contact and get a reasonable response around a 'fix' timeframe. You can no longer use list similar to use a template - their response is to start a new listing! What a useless outfit!
6 days later still no fix!

Useless customer service, I received a faulty item from seller, complained to customer service team. They advised me to take it to dispute tribunal. What a dumb answer.

TradeMe customer service is non-existent. No ability to speak with someone over account/ site issues. They tell you to use the 'chat' function and when you want to speak with someone it says you have caught them out of hours....while you are literally chatting with the bot during online hours! Just a bunch of grifters scamming and clipping the ticket on people trying to use the market place.

One star way to good for these #%^# happy to take ya money no time and impossible to contact them if you have a query I've spent ages just trying to contact them but hey there site has no option for that as they are poo shoots
I think they must also own Aramex the courier pretend company

Got scammed on a trade (with a “in-trade” seller). Seller never posted item. Trade me dispute resolution is a joke. Nothing was done, scammer didn’t even have their account suspended.. Really disappointing

So.
We should all change our passwords on any platform at least every six months.
Why is it now so bloody difficult to do it on Trademe?
Seriously. Do they now want us all to drift away?

Definitely not recommended. Underwritten tower so might as well not satisfied with both after talking to them. No updates and its already more than 3 months from my 1st ever claim for glass of outside table. Changing the glass okay? replace table just by buying would have been lot faster? I have lodged claim on 02/02/2024 and its almost 4 months in 1 week seriously? I have emailed to prioritise and give updates but I guess no one cares and they do not have escalation process.

I listed my car for sale with them.

I got an email through Trade Me’s OWN SYSTEM, forwarding a message on from someone who was interested in my car.

I interacted with the interested party in good faith - because they’d come through Trade Me - and gave the person my home address and phone number.

They agreed to buy the car and organised a test drive.

When they asked me to go to a website to pay for their background check on the vehicle, I refused.

The next day, I received an automated email from Trade Me telling me: “The message was sent by a scammer, not a genuine Trade Me member… Ngā mihi, Jack.”

Why did their system forward me the message if it wasn’t from a genuine Trade Me member?

Trade Me’s fraud detection system is like a parachute that only opens after you’ve splattered into the ground and died.

I could have had my card details stolen and lost serious money.

And if I had, do you think anyone at Trade Me would have cared or helped?

Trade Me need to do a lot better.

Trade me fees are ridiculously expensive, looks like they wanna get rich quick and I am sure they are with all the fees they charging and just right when I was thinking there should have been other platforms for trade I saw an advertising today regarding a new trading website letgo.co.nz that's launching soon, free trading and all, seems to be good, well at least hopefully it be way better than what trade me and facebook are, looks like trade me coming up with a big competition. can't wait to see how this new website works.

Got $689 stolen by con men who have operated on this platform for over two years watchout trade me gave me back $0

TradeMe used to be a good local marketplace but has become a complete nightware with multitutinous overseas operators that list as if they're NZ (perhaps drop shippers) and they're allowed to pretent to be NZ based so long as they state after several paragraphs right at the bottom that the product is coming from overseas and will take .... weeks. Then you have the ones that actually are honest about being overseas; and their customer service is absolutely RUBBISH. They don't give a rats coz they're in a different country and don't have to abide by our consumer law. I'd say stick to FB Marketplace. And only pay on pickup. TradeMe has done its dash. Even Etsy Australia is INORDINATELY better than TradeMe. And finally TradeMe buyer protection isn't worth a dime. I had a real issue purchasing a laptop ... it literally took over 4months to arrive. And the seller was lying at every turn. TM blocked their account as so many were having problems ... but I got little to no help from TM at all. They DEFINITELY didn't refund me ... which is what I wanted under the buyer protection (coz I had to purchase another laptop. I couldn't wait months ... and actually didn't even know if it was going to arrive at all). It was a complete dogs breakfast ... and a hideously stressful time. Thanks a lot TM ... NOT!

Just in general really useless. I really wish there was another auction website that actually looked after their customers, rather than being greedy and wanting nothing but more $$$$

Tried to sell a book, within seconds of listing a scammer offered a price way above my asking price and TradeMe took away the commission immediately… only a few exchanges of emails later I found it was a scam but imagine how many people could be be scammed if in my situation. The fact that TradeMe allows scammers to roam the platform is shame on them. Also the selling experience is horrible — there is basically no service at all for the horrific percentage of commission they’re taking from a sale, and your listing is only good for 7 days, if the item is not a quick sale the relisting process is pretty time wasting. Thinking about going to EBay now.

Been around 25 years but spend all their effort on woke bs and none on core functionality.

I’d give them a negative score if I could. Customer service is almost non existent and when you do hear from someone after frustratingly dealing with their mind numbing chatbots and the odd half a human for two weeks, and then eventually end up with some arrogant ignorant power tripper (Cody) who couldn’t care less that you were loyal to them for years and had a 100% rating. That all counted for nothing! They used to be my go to place for trading. Not anymore, never again. You screw over my loyalty, it will come back tenfold! Trademe, you won’t get away with this unacceptable behaviour of loyal customers! Hurry someone and create a new trading platform! Good riddens to trademe!

This was a very good website to buy my Toyota Aqua. It was a fast trade and very cheap compared to other Aquas on the market. Haven't received it yet but the photos looked great!! Cant wait to receive my Toyota Aqua!!

I reported a faulty product from a supplier on trademe.co.nz. The product was faulty. I have provided proof as well as communication from the seller not responding. It took trademe.co.nz approximately 2 months to respond. Unfortunately, since we relocated, I could not hold on to the faulty product. Trademe.co.nz, with all the proof I have provided, refused to honour the consumer protection promise. DON'T RELY ON THE CONSUMER PROTECTION POLICY. You are not protected when you buy on Trademe.co.nz.
