Needs heavier duty zipper pulls. One of mine broke on the first day just closing the bag.

Best bag I’ve ever owned!!
Another great product from TD, used it recently on a weekend in Malaga. Got all my clothes and essentials in with room to spare. No issues with its size going through customs. Perfect!
Absolute, top quality bag. Highly recommend
Fantastic piece of gear, surprised how comfortable this is!
Well mate quality pack
Since purchasing this rucksack in late January from the Battersea store, it has been used almost every single day without fail. As someone who travels frequently for both work and leisure and has owned plenty of travel bags over the years, this one has quickly proven itself to be exceptional. It’s been everywhere with me: from the summit of Snowdon to the beaches of Cagliari, through freezing conditions of -13°C in Finland and Estonia, and across the rugged terrain and unpredictable weather of the Lake District. It’s also been my go-to for work trips and expos, reliably carrying my laptop, documents, and daily essentials, as well as handling lighter loads like clothes and toiletries for day trips. No matter the environment or how I’ve used it, the bag has never let me down. There’s not a single scratch, tear, or sign of wear. It’s incredibly resilient, spacious, and clearly built from high-quality materials. This rucksack has become part of my everyday routine, and I’m already considering adding the 25L version for shorter outings when finances allow. If you’re looking for a durable, versatile, and reliable rucksack that can handle anything you throw at it, this is the one! Very impressed with it overall!
Excellent bit of kit. Durable and stylish. Many hidden compartments. Top kit
Perfect for what i needed.
Perfect weekenders bag, great storage pockets , really smart looking too
I’ve carried everything from issued bergens to cheap civilian packs that fell apart halfway through a tab. The Phantom 40L sits somewhere very specific—and it’s important to understand that before you buy it. This is not a traditional hillwalking rucksack. It’s a tactical travel pack with military DNA, and when you use it in the right environment, it absolutely delivers. First Impressions — Built Like Kit, Not Luggage Straight out the gate, this thing feels solid. Not “lightweight alpine pack” solid—proper, overbuilt, military-grade solid. * Cordura + ballistic nylon construction * MOLLE panels for modularity * YKK hardware throughout This is the same material philosophy used in combat gear—designed to take abuse, not just look good on Instagram. From a soldier’s perspective, it feels familiar. Structured, durable, and ready to be thrown around. Load & Carry — Comfortable, But Not Expedition Level You’ve got: * Airmesh back system * Padded shoulder straps * Sternum strap So for urban movement, airports, short hikes, and travel, it carries well. But here’s the reality: 👉 No proper hip belt 👉 No load transfer system 👉 No adjustable frame So once you start loading it heavy over long distances, you’ll feel it in your shoulders. This is where it separates from a proper hill pack. It’s built for mobility and access, not multi-day weight carriage. Organisation — Where It Excels This is where the Phantom stands out. * Internal organiser system * RFID pocket (nice touch for travel security) * Padded laptop sleeve * U-shaped opening for full access Everything is laid out like a tactical admin pack, not a top-loader. For: * Flights * Weekends away * Gym + work hybrid use …it’s spot on. Durability — Properly Hard-Wearing You can abuse this bag. * Drag it * Throw it * Overpack it It’ll take it. Cordura and ballistic nylon are used in military kit for a reason—they resist tearing and abrasion far better than typical outdoor fabrics. From experience, this is the kind of bag you don’t have to baby. Where It Falls Short (And This Matters) If you’re thinking pure hillwalking or mountain use—this is where you need to be honest: * ❌ No rain cover (water-resistant, not waterproof) * ❌ No proper ventilation system for long climbs * ❌ No load-bearing hip support * ❌ Heavier than most 40L hiking packs (~1.5kg) This isn’t built for: * Multi-day mountain treks * Technical terrain * Long-distance carrying under load Real-World Use Case Where this bag thrives: ✔ Travel (cabin-size friendly) ✔ Urban / airport movement ✔ Short hikes / day missions ✔ Work + gym hybrid carry ✔ Tactical / range / kit organisation Where it doesn’t: ✖ Proper hillwalking expeditions ✖ Heavy load carriage over distance Final Verdict From a hillwalker and ex-soldier standpoint: The Phantom 40L is a tactical travel pack disguised as an outdoor rucksack. It’s built like military kit, organised like a travel bag, and performs best when you’re: * Moving between locations * Operating light and fast * Carrying structured loads (tech, kit, clothes) If you treat it like a Bergen replacement—you’ll be disappointed. If you treat it like a bombproof, highly organised 40L carry system—you’ll rate it highly. Bottom Line This is modern operator-style kit for civilian life: Not designed to carry your world on your back… …but perfect for moving efficiently with everything you actually need. It’s proper ally though!!
Good Backpack but price is to high.
Purchased it in the sale, great design. Carry on sized. Can be used as a holdall or a day sack. I have the matching 20l day sack for shorter trips requiring less kit. Both really good, would definitely buy them again if they wear out.
Great bag, I use it daily on my commute and through airports. No issues, super comfortable, great quality, great to use. Can’t fault it.
Smart bag, plenty pockets and storage , ideal for travelling
Great back for short trips
Just needs an upgrade to enclose the main pocket with a mesh closure like the Patagonia cube. Although there are retaining straps , a full zipable mesh cover would make it perfect and create an extra pocket at the same time
I found the bag to be quite spacious for me carry around my things either for gym and work or when traveling. Very satisfied with it!
The design overall is great! It's simply a good looking backpack! The tech storage keeps the laptop safe and nicely stowed and the main compartment holds a lot! Love the pattern design on the inside - makes stuff easier to see and looks great! The ONLY downside is that the mesh compartments on the inside of the "lid" go so deep! They're just not very practical in that respect. You have to open up the whole pack to get to the stuff inside! I wish you would have made the "top" mesh compartment stop where the lower begins - that would have made a lot more sense than running it all the way to the bottom.
It looks cool, feels awesome and does exactly what you want it to do! Just another fantastic product from Thrudark 😃
