Of the French course I have taken this is the best. The live group classes with Ellie made me work hard while being fun. And Bonjour Billiance is well, brilliant.

I've been really enjoying my online French lessons with Ellie. She's fantastic – very clear, incredibly patient, and makes every lesson engaging. The sessions are brilliant, and I'm genuinely having fun learning online. Highly recommend!

I have been learning with Ellie since the start of the year. Her classes are engaging, thoughtfully constructed and fun. I recently visited France and the difference in my use of language since learning with Ellie was enormous. That was partly about new vocabulary and grammar learned, but more than this it was a total shift in my ability to listen to French being spoken and to be confident I can make myself understood, regardless that it isn't perfect. I have fallen back in love with learning French thanks to Ellie.

I tried a few French classes before I found Ellie and I'm so glad I have. I wasn't sure it would work online but I've found it to be every bit as good as, if not better than, face-to-face classes. Ellie is warm and encouraging; lets everyone speak and is great at gaging the interests of the group. Great fun!

If you are looking to learn or improve your French, I wholeheartedly recommend Ellie Louis and The French Room to you. I have been having online private lessons with Ellie for the past 18 months and they are the highlight of my week. She is such a great teacher with a really welcoming style. I lack confidence and Ellie is reassuring and encouraging. She suggests work to complete during the week and we discuss during the lessons. Progress is well paced and the lessons are always interesting. Her resources on The French Room are excellent and evolving all the time so there is always something new to dip into. I thoroughly recommend Ellie and The French Room.

Learning French in your 60's is a challenge. Ellie Louise, The French Room, makes it comfortable and welcoming. Ellie meets you where you are at and encourages you along the way. I'm learning not just the french language but why the language is the way it is and sometimes it's an unknown. And, that's what makes it intriguing. I love puzzles and this is a puzzle that is fascinating and exciting to learn. Ellie really makes it an curious journey. Merci!

Wonderful teacher with great live classes that allow practice in speaking French

Ellie is an excellent, engaging and encouraging teacher with a lot of experience and a passion for French. The combination of a live class plus access to alot of resources via Bonjour Brilliance, allowing for study in your own time at your own pace is ideal for me.

The french room is a great way to learn ir improve ypur french. Ellie teaches in a style that is knowledge building as well as supportive. The experience has been life changing for my french and my confidence in using it. Would highly recommend The French Room.

I've been doing 1:1 French lessons with Ellie for a few months now and have made noticeable improvements within this time. My understanding of grammar and sentence structures has definitely improved, but one of the most noticeable improvements for me has been my pronunciation. Ellie has also pushed me to have conversations or explain things in French which has really boosted my confidence.

One stand-out thing for me was a recent trip to Nice; Ellie helped me to prepare by teaching me phrases I could use in various situations, but also by teaching me phrases or words I would be likely to hear a lot from locals. These definitely came to fruition during my trip!

I really enjoy the sessions with Ellie. She is so patient, is expert at putting me at ease and pushes me without ever making the session feel uncomfortable. She’s thoughtful and flexible in her approach to teaching and is interesting to talk to on a wide range of topics.

After many failed attempts to learn French, I have found a learning model which really suits and really works. For me, this is the recorded tutos and the live group classes. Ellie's recorded tutos, which you can dip into as frequently as you want, are excellent, and the live classes are a great environment to practise your french speaking in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Ellie is really responsive and supportive right from the start of your french learning journey. I am 8 months in now and I feel like I have made a lot of progress.

What works for me is the flexibility because I am time poor. If I need to duck out of the live class one week there's no issue, I can come back the next week and pick up where I left off. And I can keep the momentum building all the time by watching the short tutos on a regular basis. Highly recommended.

I recently travelled for a holiday in Chamonix and felt much more confident speaking French on this trip than previously. This was down to Ellie having helped with my speaking skills and teaching me useful phrases which I could use, which helped me engage with people and they seemed happier to let me have a go at a conversation. Following advice from Ellie in a tuto, I even stopped my partner from ordering a well cooked steak so as to not upset the chef!!!! I find Ellie's teaching methods work for me in improving my confidence.

The week long intensive course was just what I wanted.
Within a friendly, relaxed and supportive environment, as I happily slurped my coffee there was listening, speaking, observing, experimenting, recording... it was all in there

I am a beginner French learner and look forward to my French lessons with Ellie every week!
I highly recommend Ellie's online flexible group classes to any other beginners and particularly to those who are, like me, learning for work/business purposes.
After just a couple of months of lessons I have developed confidence in attempting to speak basic French to native speakers, and to communicate via email with colleagues and clients in France.

I have been studying with Ellie and The French Room since moving to France nearly 7 months ago. I really love the relaxed and fun approach of the weekly group lessons so, when Ellie offered the opportunity to book into an online intensive course, I leapt at the chance to take part.
Structured differently to the normal weekly lessons, Ellie still kept the course varied and good fun whilst gently encouraging me out of my comfort zone to push me forward. The course wasn't always easy (!) but by the end of the week, using the "tools" I'd been given, I felt more confident and relaxed about communicating and have since embarked on conversations more freely than before! I would 100% recommend an intensive course with Ellie, as the "safe" and supportive environment she provides is a perfect place to be "pushed" just that little bit further.

Ellie is fantastic! We met, and she immediately understood my level, and we got to work. Most of my previous learning has been formal study. Ellie provides much more practical instruction. I have really enjoyed my experience, and I look forward to fluency!

Ellie’s approach to French teaching is perfect for me. The lessons feel very tailored to us as individuals and I really enjoy the pace and techniques. I also really value the flexibility offered when buying a set of passes - this really suits my busy lifestyle and is real value for money. I also really appreciate that Ellie always responds quickly to admin queries outside of class via the class chat function which is great and unusual in the larger more impersonal institutions I’ve studied at previously. Highly recommend.

The French Room has provided me with the confidence to go forward and converse in French when out and about. Meeting weekly and chatting in French with others at the same level makes such a difference and whilst it is challenging it is also very rewarding.
