Surprisingly enjoyable!
Honestly, when I arrived I was confused as I foolishly didn’t realise it was a back packers hostel. However, the check in process was smooth, great information given as well as a voucher for a free drink.
There was a very raucous bar showing football but when you go upstairs, the sound becomes less. The chill out room was quiet and has a TV and hot drinking facilities as well as an attached laundry. The roof terrace is set out with tables and chairs and has a lovely view of the shard.
I booked a pod and it was clean, well lit and provided ear buds. The bathrooms and toilets were clean and well maintained as were the hallways.
On checking out, I spoke to the very helpful Porter who showed me where to fill my water bottle and wished me a pleasant onward journey. For £40, it was fantastic value.
Edinburgh hostel is shambolic
Edinburgh hostel rarely provide the accommodation that has been booked. Five times I have booked a dorm bed in a specific room only to find that I was given an inferior room. Some of the reception staff are hopeless and completely uninterested in the job, they should be sacked. They have no idea of room types or the configuration of the rooms. The manager also does not know what rooms are available in the hostel. Shambolic organisation and the worst in Edinburgh.
Terrible organisation with the worst…
Terrible organisation with the worst customer service.
My experience at two of their hostels were terrible to say the least. Shepherd Bush and Greenwich.
They treat their customers very badly especially if you make a complaint about the service you receive.
Most of their staff are rude and arrogant and don't listen to customers' complaint.
They don't respect your opinion or feedback
They think because they are providing affordable accommodation to people, for that reason they don't think they need to meet an acceptable level of standard.
I will not recommend St- Christopher hostel to anyone looking for hostel to stay in London.
I am definitely not patronising them henceforth as they do not deserve my patronage.
Booked a stay with them recently and I was turned away at check out without prior notice in the middle of the night. Lack of respect for their customers
London Bridge-AVOID
As usual, a bouncer took exception to a member of a 10 person group. Unsurprisingly it was the first person in the queue. The bouncer was an absolute pig of a man, who had clearly decided he wouldn’t let someone in.
When confronted he was intentionally obtuse. The other bouncer with him was clearly uncomfortable with the situation and when asked for his credentials the ‘main’ bouncer suddenly disappeared. After observing the queue, the bouncer was clearly selecting, at random, a member of a group to not be allowed entrance. I hope he is relieved of his duties quickly.
Great Hostel.
Affordable Hostel,I Stayed In Bath.
Met Some Friendly People In The Hostel.
Helpful Kind Staff Who Let You Use The Laundry Facilities.
The most abusive, horrifying experience I ever received form a hostel/hotel, ever.
This was at St. Christophers "Village" Hostel - London Bridge
The most abusive experience from a staff member I experienced in 9 years of living in the UK.
A receptionist (girl) furiously shouted at me whilst slapping the table to move a luggage that I paid for and she didn't know, "right that second". I told her "give me a minute" whilst I was escorting a guest to her bus, she wasn't happy to wait that long.
Complete mess-up from their side and "manager" Ari says they stand up to the behaviour of their staff - ego based statement that now hurts their business.
I also have a little video of this behaviour (for my own protection) as the abuse was very obvious and I had to have evidence to defend, in case of anything that could've happen.
They moved my things without telling me whilst I was outside the hostel during the day, losing some of my clothes and shoes in the process - now they will face a claim, as suggested by the Police arriving at the place on my call reporting "theft".
I told them "apologise to me and I won't review this" - Ari said "I try to obtain leverage" when all I did was trying to be kind still because I had a good time with the guests and the business shouldn't suffer because of 1 staff member.
No apology was ever received. My email was blocked by reception.
Furthermore:
- The bed was not ready (someone's stuff in it when I went to it after check in).
- I paid for luggage storage (£5 daily) and the luggage storage was too small for my luggage - the same receptionist told me I should pay 2x (?).
- The communal areas of laundry & upstairs terrace were closed when they should've been open (by displayed timetables).
This happened on 25'th of December, last day of Christmas. Great.
They banned me from the hostel because it's easier for them to ban me vs them to admit they did something
wrong.
Warm and friendly hosts in Hammersmith W6
I stayed in Hammersmith branch and stayed in a mixed 8 bed dorm on 3rd floor, room was aired, clean floors clean linen and right temperature, super fast WiFi and electric ports on each bed wall, super clean communal toilets and shower facilities and a great continental breakfast the next day at an additional cost, very affordable to all budgets, very friendly staff members Billy, Stephen, Mark, Alam, Malik, Mohir, Kevin,Star, Drey,Nicole,Will all amazing even the cleaning lady in the lobby in the morning
Stayed at Hammersmith 16 FEB24 TO…
Stayed at Hammersmith 16 FEB24 TO Sunday18 Feb found the hostel to be safe clean excellent location right outside Hammersmith tube stations, pay 2 pound deposit for key and 5 pound for towel had 5 pound back at checkout, friendly helpful informative, I have stayed before and I will stay again, what you see is what you get.
Avoid this place like the plague!!! Dirty, Worst customer service and Manager, Racist, Misogynistic, Gaslighting staff. Disease outbreaks from dirty, smelling rooms with Vagabonds admitted to stay.
Avoid this place like the plague!!! London Bridge branch!! Dirty, Worst customer service staff and Manager (called Hayden or so; maybe even another lie) - Racist, Misogynistic, Gaslighting & Judgemental. Disease outbreaks breeeding from dirty, smelling rooms, rough sleepers and vagabonds who haven't showered for weeks are admitted to stay; with no actions whatsoever to remedy the situation. Not even free soap to enable them wash up at the very least so they don't inconvenience or infect other roommates. The staff literally expect you to take whatever they allocate to you and if you refuse or complain, they accuse you of being aggressive, like you have no rights. At this point, they have already taken your money and refuse to refund when they can't give you a suitable clean room. They completely start to misbehave. They don't care if you are stranded on the streets. Imagine this happening to young ones with limited cash. Absolute scam!!! A lawsuit is pending!! This is daylight robbery!!! Do yourself a favour and go elsewhere. The competition in London is high with far better places e.g travelodge, etc, where you can get a private double or king room for the same price or even less with a fantastic service. That's what I did. Didn't bother wasting one more second listening to their rude words & behaviours and simply walked out on them. Just do a quick search and there are many locations to choose from with varying price ranges and enjoy your night & day. The horrible service staff at this horrible place are living miserable lives and make it their life ambition to try and make others like them. Don't even give them the audience. You are special enough to be treated with respect. They will be investigated and exposed when they least expect it. I have all the evidence and recordings to back my claim. Like I said, avoid like the plague. There should be negative stars on here. I highly suspect that any positive reviews here were bought. They are a scam!!!
Misleading, unhelpful. Turned away without refund
Despite being a 'favourite amongst students and backpackers', no information was given at point of booking to suggest my 17 year old nephew would be turned away late in the evening, leaving him and his friends with nowhere to stay in London, 300 miles from home. With no offer of help and no a refund. The 'over 18' policy is buried on their website. No effort to accommodate, for what could have ended up a disastrous situation. I'm embarrassed to have recommended this place to my family but I'll be recommending others to steer clear.
Misleading marketing and disappointing customer service
I subscribed to St. Christopher's Inn's newsletter on their website with the expectation of receiving better deals and promotional emails, as they had promised a 10% discount code for newsletter subscribers. However, to my dismay, I never received the promised coupon code.
I booked a stay at the hostel. Upon reaching the checkout success page, I noticed a tab that offered a 10% discount for subscribing to the newsletter. It was clear that the code was readily available. This prompted me to contact Alan in the customer care team to bring this issue to their attention.
Alan's initial response was prompt, but the subsequent interactions left much to be desired. He bombarded me with multiple questions and even requested proof that I had found the code on their website and not through a third party. I explained that the code was on their checkout success page, but it seemed to take an unreasonable amount of time for them to update my order with the discount code that they had initially advertised for newsletter subscribers.
This experience highlights misleading marketing communication and a lackluster approach to customer service. It's disheartening to see a company promise a discount to its subscribers and then waste its customers' time in actually delivering on that promise. I hope St. Christopher's Inn can improve in this regard.
BRUGES_AN UNPLEASANT STAY AT A MISMANAGED HOTEL
One of the worst lodging experiences out of the hundreds of trips I’ve taken.
The story begins with me mistakenly booking for august 11-13, 2023 instead of the intended dates of august 12-14, 2023. So, I made an additional reservation for august 13-14, 2023, to stay as planned. Both reservations were fully prepaid on agoda.com (€199 for the first 2 days and €108 for the third day).
The booking details are as follows:
Reservation 01: Number 381498803,
Reference ID 2382003144
Reservation 02: Number 381529531,
Reference ID 2471066725
Upon checking in on august 12, 2023, I was informed that the 'paid-for' room was already occupied by someone else, and I was not allowed to use it. Their reason was that I didn't check in on august 11, 2023. The hotel voluntarily cancelled my reservation and "gave the room away" to someone else on august 12-13, 2023, without any consent from me or any prior notice.
It's a ridiculous joke. I am renting a room, not participating in horse racing or any kind of gambling like that. I'm sure i don't need to arrive earlier than others to use the room I’ve paid for, right?
Even the front desk staff mentioned there was nothing they could do at the time and offered no assistance or resolution for the situation. I struggled to find a hotel on the same day and had to pay a substantial fee for last-minute accommodation in Bruges, while the room I paid for is being rented by the hotel to someone else.
As for the second reservation on august 13, 2023, the hotel's conditions were just as terrible as their treatment of customers. There was no nightstand as pictured, not even a single clothes hanger, the room was too hot to close the door in august (no air conditioning or fan), and the noise was unbearable with constant disturbances from the adjacent room's door and footsteps in the corridor.
A 'wonderful' experience for a night's stay here, priced at €307. Congratulations, you're certainly running a splendid business.
P/s: Bruges is a beautiful city but this hostel is a SHAME.
My key card consistently does not…
My key card consistently does not work,on two occasions I had just come out of the shower. The most recent occasion today,I had to come to reception in just a towel I knocked on the door and called for a member of staff. Sheeva came took the card to reactivate it. Another member of staff surjit came looked at me and laughed loudly, went around the bar and continued to laugh loudly. This was so humiliating for me. Last week a guest exposed himself to me In the chill out room and I called the police and he was arrested. I'm sure you will understand that having to come to reception in a vulnerable state of undress due to a faulty key card and to be laughed at and humiliated by surjit has caused me great distress. His behaviour is unexceptable and seriously unprofessional. I would like this complaint to go to the highest staff member in the complaints department. I will never stay at a Christopher's Inn again.
This took place in the shepherds Bush hostel.

Booked to go into a female dorm
Booked to go into a female dorm. The male staff member walked in no announcement looking at beds saying there had been a mixup it was a mixed dorm. I said it was female. Late at night a man (maybe homeless walked in stripped lay down started snoring. This is why I wanted female dorm. Went downstairs, phone to manager there was mix up it was mixed dorm. So they dont know which dorms are male or female. Dont trust this place there are homeless people who move in and out of. If female you will likely end up with sleeping with men. Very unhelpful I left at midnight had place to go. Complained they said I had agreed to mixed dorm. Never. That is why I left at midnight. So you cannot trust these people
not worth it
not worth it. i was at ST Christophers last week- it was durty and smelly. the breakfast was so boring and bad there was hair in the food. GROSSSEE. i had a really bad experience and did not have a good time. the bed was hard as a rock and the curtains was durty and smelly.
not worth your money
I thought it was a nightclub based on the looks of it (Amsterdam). Don't recommend bringing your kids there. I went to the reception and she checked me and gave me the key card to the room. I got into the room and it was really dirty. I wonder how many the rooms are being cleaned.. the floor was super dirty and if you travel solo like me, you expect the room to be of certain standard but when it isn't cleaned properly and people do inappropriate stuff in the bathroom (I booked a bed in a dorm of guys and girls). Be careful of not booking the wrong room or you will end up with no covers and privacy during the night. During the night it also gets very hot and enclosed in the room (airflow) and idk what you mean that you have airconditioning. They put 2 fans in your room and expect it to be enough, when it is far from enough !! You can't sleep properly in that heat, especially not during summer months with 5 other people in your room. Besides that, the bathroom and shower area is in the same room, so one person occupy both at the same time.. Furthermore, when a door was closing down on the ground floor, the whole wall next to me started shaking up on 6th floor… I dont know if that is supposed to happen, but it is really concerning regarding how well this place is even taken care of.. or cleaned for that matter. I tried to notify the staff and they were sorry and gave me free breakfast etc. but it is just not good enough. I don't see myself coming back ever again.
Great staff awesome place to stay!!
Great staff awesome place to stay!!
You feel like home !! The Newquay is awesome
EDINBURGH (Scotland) St Christopher's Inn - Excellent (Female Ensuite)
I write (positive review) about their female-only ensuite dorm of St Christopher's Inn in Edinburgh, Scotland. I stayed in women's ensuite room with a few bunk beds. Booking was easy, price was great, staff were efficient, location is fantastic, room was clean with a cleaner attending once every hour day time so clean shower and toilet, basic breakfast was cute, and luckily when I stayed, other guests were quiet, considerate and ideal roommates to sleep along with, without any party crazy drunks being loud, so it was all a lovely experience and I slept well; quiet, clean, safe, comfortable and a fantastic value for money. I'd recommend to other solo female travellers to use the women's ensuite dorm here.
