Very dissatisfied with their service
The original car we hired needed to be replaced half way through our road trip south of Perth. Sixt responded well and had a vehicle shipped to our location which we appreciated. We were guaranteed that our rental agreement would be updated, however, a few days after returning the vehicle we were issued an infringement notice email which was for a period prior to taking possession of the new vehicle. Despite our efforts to contact sixt immediately to advise them of their error, we were charged the admin fee and our details were provided the the state authority to issue the fine to us. I was unable to speak to a customer service officer, the phone cut off after 5 mins wait time, so could only communicate via email. I have emailed sixt advising them of our dissatisfaction with their service with not one response provided.
Thieves plain and simple
Thieves plain and simple. I have NZ$250 owing to me and NZ$1,108.74. I have used this company twice and both these amounts are from the two separate transactions.
Neither have been returned in over 6 weeks despite the company stating it would be within days, many emails from me and phone calls.
They lie, they pass the buck and the ignore. RIP OFF, use someone else.

Be careful, if you are booking and paying for a vehicle upfront to hire in Australia, their website might display in USD (even though you don't even live in US) despite other sites being able to automatically quote in local currency (converted for better consumer experience), and it's not clear that they are displaying in USD, which is misleading. Their customer service via email is very slow and uncooperative and they will harshly enforce not refunding the full amount if you don't cancel on their website within a 24 hour window ... emailing them to query any discrepancy first clearly doesn't count. This is not how a customer-friendly company does business.
No show in time means you loose your money
Due to delays I could not pick up the car I had rent at Perth in time. The next morning, early, I phoned Sixt what to do. They told me that if you want to pick up a car a day late they consider that as a 'no-show' and that the contract is cancelled. So I lost almost 400 euro! They advised me to go to the office at the airport, to figure out what they possibly could do for me. I went there, and they told me that the car I had hired was not available anymore. Not very likely, because only a night had passed. They only had a very big car, for 7 persons (I travelled with just 2, needed a small car). And because it was so big I had to pay 120 euro extra. I felt swindled, but had no time to look for alternatives.
I wrote a week later a review on google reviews, gave one star, because this is no way you should treat a customer. They responded, if I gave my rental number they promised to find a solution for this matter. That is already four weeks ago, and I did not hear anything from Sixt. Very bad service, no respect, too.
Very bad experience for us
Very bad experience for us. We rented a car and the staff persuaded us to take full insurance so that it will cover for all accidents. We took full insurance. Unfortunately we met with an accident. On return of the car, the Sixt staff reassured us that all repair costs will be covered. A week later we received a letter saying we have to pay the full cost. I requested for a re-review, which they declined. Do not trust Sixt. I will never recommend them to anyone.
SIXT - incompetent or malicious?
I booked a utility four-wheel drive with Sixt yesterday to pick up today (31/3/2026). I was planning to do work moving equipment as part of an urgent job.
Around an hour and a half before the pickup time, I received a call to say there were no utes available. Sorry.
How can a company not know what stock they have!! Was there another customer who they preferred or is SIXT just incompetent?
Now I need to ring to say I cannot do the job. Thanks SIXT.

We had a positive experience using SIXT while we were on holiday in Australia. We picked up our rental car in Melbourne city centre, and dropped it off 9 days later at Avalon airport. SIXT staff were friendly and helpful. Car worked as required. Drop off was very easy. I would happily use SIXT Australia again.

I’m not an unreasonable person but this customer service is not even real. We paid ahead of time to rent a car for a day and becuase we didn’t arrive on time even though we already paid for the full day, they hired out the car to someone else and kept the entire amount of money we paid?? The girl then tells me if you booked a hotel you’d have to get there on time too and i’m like ? if i book a hotel they don’t just give my room away after I pay for it and i also don’t pay until im there what kind of excuse is that? Atleast give us the money back if this is what your company is like but they also refused.

“I had an extremely disappointing experience with SIXT. When we picked up the car, it was pouring rain, and we immediately noticed the back lights weren’t working. After returning to the desk, they gave us a replacement car. However, once we got to our destination, we found the reverse lights on the right side still weren’t working, and there was a car seat left in the vehicle, which meant we couldn’t safely put our children in. Despite calling them four times today, we received no response until the last call, when they told us we had to bring the car back for them to fix it. This is completely unacceptable—this was not our fault, and we should not be responsible for the return. I would strongly advise against renting from them. So very disappointed . Charged me half upfront without telling me about the other half
Rented a car for 43 days . Was not told that they charge 28 days at a time . Ended up going overdrawn and almost cancelled my debit card and froze my account because I could not recognise the transaction. Very very poor , they should tell you at the very least what the total payment is going to be , and that it will be over 2 payments rather than just having you pay half and then surprising you with the other half from a different debit name.
Very very upset ,embarrassed at being overdrawn and will not be using them again
Bad service and no response to complaint
Sixt did not make it clear which terminal at Brisbane Airport I should pick up my hire car from. They assumed it was the domestic terminal given that I didn't specify a flight number.
As a result, I wasted 30 minutes queuing up at the wrong terminal only to be redirected to the domestic terminal which entailed a bus transfer.
The agent at the domestic terminal said that this was a common occurrence but management were not doing anything about it (my suggestion was that the confirmation email should specify the terminal).
Complaints to two different Sixt Australia email addresses went unanswered despite chasers.
Good customer service
They are cheaper than the others. They have a phone line manned by real people. And they are happy to be flexible when the airline stuffs up your flights.
Worst hire experience ever
Worst hire experience ever. They charged me twice taking my account into overdraft and the way they dealt with it was terrible. That's the way the system work, Nathan tells me if I would only listen I would understand. I understand it's just wrong. Terrible experience
Truck hire cost increased massively
Truck hire cost went from $77 in Feb 2025 to $193 in 2026. Service was slow on pickup plus my booking was not on their system. Overall, the trucks are very good, but the huge price increase no longer makes SixT the goto rental company.
Never ever hire a vehicle from SIXT, Poor service aggressive and violent conduct by SIXT
We hired a car from SIXT for 15 days trip to Melbourne, the car we hired was poorly maintained and caused a lot of problems during the trip.
On the fourth day of our trip, a warning sign said that the vehicle needed to refill the Ad-blue, the engine won’t start within 70km, we didn’t know what to do, so we called roadside assistance to advise us about this problem, we had to find a service station nearby to purchase the Ad-blue more than three times, we had to wait for help and lost one day planned trip because of this problem.
On the day of returning this vehicle, SIXT staff working in the car park gave no assistance but abused us and became very violent trying to beat us.
We had reported this incident to SIxt reception staff and all problems we had during the trip.
Such an aggressive behaviour and violent conduct by SIXT STAFF is totally unacceptable and intolerable.
SIXT hasn’t apologized for its wrongdoing, no response to our complaints, no actions taken to resolve our concerns, SHAME ON YOU SIXT!
This unpleasant and unforgettable experience is purely caused by SIXT poorly maintained of its vehicle. Don’t hire a vehicle from SIXT, NEVER EVER!
Great service!
Had to quickly rent a car after a car accident. Went to SIXT Geelong to enquire and was offered a great deal on an upgraded vehicle - too good not to accept. The various insurance options were clearly explained without any pushy upselling. Within minutes I was on my way in a very clean car. I needed to extend my rental twice, and trying to call was the only downside of the experience: call centre person was clearly in a different continent and kept getting the dates wrong. He also quoted an outrageous price, and I decided to go directly to the store. I waited a long time (it would be helpful if an attendant was available for quick queries, rather than having to wait for people to go through the entire rental process), but once it was my turn, the extension was straightforward and at the same low rate. When I returned the car, the inspection was swift and professional, and in a short time I was on my way. At all times SMS and emails kept me informed of the status of my rental.
I have no complaints about the service I received at the Geelong branch. Everyone I dealt with was friendly and helpful, and I had no issues whatsoever. I will use them again.

The whole experience from start to finish was excellent with SIXT Richmond. The car was spotless and the contract was clearly explained. The drop off was seamless and quick.

Last minute before closing time, we got a great offer and great service in the Melbourne airport office, compared to the other rental companies, who gave us little to no service at all.
