I signed up to start building a site last week and it's way different than any platform I've been on before. I have a lot of questions and know I'll need to pick the minds of other sellers on the platform on how to do things. I've been trying to get on their forums to ask people questions. I registered for the forums and nothing. I messaged the customer service for the forums to ask to let me in so I can start building my site....crickets. It appears I'll be stuck just waiting out the free trial period without ever getting started. Can't get anyone to respond. It's a good thing you don't have to pay anything up front to get started because if you did you would get stuck paying for a site you can't even start building. What kind of platform blocks it's forums and doesn't allow new customers to ask for help and learn from other users? What are they hiding? I can see why all the ratings on here are low. I don't recommend this platform. Will be looking somewhere else.

They will not allow me to login to my site. just goes to an error page. Tech support did answer phone. Try calling at midnight. They want me to buy a new SSL before they will allow me to access my own site.
Shift4Shop used to be a great platform…
Shift4Shop used to be a great platform when it was 3DCart before shift4shop bought it in November 2020. That is when all the problems began. The platform is not stable and there is a lot of down time. If you are on their free plan using shift4 payments as your processor it declines customer cards all the time for no reason but if you run their card on paypal or stripe they go through just fine. This has been an ongoing issue since the day Shift4Shop took over. On top of that the free plan is not actually free. You have to pay for a cloudflare SSL monthly, it was just announced that in January 2026 they will begin charging $190.00 for PCI compliance yearly. I've never been on any platform that charges for PCI compliance ever. Also in September of 2025 shift4 announced they were hiking their processing fees to over 3% plus 40 cents per transaction (A month after it went into effect. They always do things shady like that) Those are now the highest processing fees I've seen from any platform. Add on top of that their integrations for Facebook, Amazon, Ebay, Etsy, Pinterest rarely work or do not work at all and they have known this since they bought out 3dcart 5 years ago. Their app store has so many apps that don't even work with their platform and this has been brought up in the forums but the apps are still there. There has not been any upgrades to integrations, apps or overall site improvements since the takeover as well and all of the merchants have been begging for years to get the platform up to date and in modern times and for years now their response has been we are working on trying to get the platform stable. How many years does it take to get it stable? You would think 5 years would be more than enough time. Anyway the platform is so out of date and stuck in early to mid 2010's era and there seems to be no improvements on that coming in the near future. I, like many other long time Shift4Shop merchants am fleeing the site to start 2026. It's no longer viable to do business on and in all honesty all of the issues on the platform cause lost sales regularly. If you can get into the forums while doing your free trial you can see for yourself. I'm not just making any of this up. Shift4Shop is a complete and total disaster of a platform. Like I said read the forums, don't just take my word for it. You will see everything I have mentioned just keeps going on with no fixes coming. If you are reading this review you have been warned. Before wasting your time on Shift4shop for their free (not really free) ecommerce site you will be better off going somewhere else and saving yourself a huge headache. I'm looking forward to finally escaping in the new year.
Customer Service isn't quality and…
Customer Service isn't quality and spend alot of time waiting for them to tell me look at this knowledge base. They are not able to compare their products and services to SHopify, there main competitor at all to give you a feel for anything as you are setting up your account. Their payment processing fees are much higher than I'm paying elsewhere along with an excessively high per transaction fee of 40 cents.
I wasted alot of time trying to learn this ecosystem with things hidden behind modules that were not intuitive to find, you had to use their precise wording that I did not see in their help/knowledge bases when I was trying to utilize features such as quantity discounts and subscriptions but they call them recurring orders to find it.

SCAMMERS AND THEIVES!!!!! I would like to say that this is a terrible terrible company, and that they are absolute thieves. I tried to go ahead and get a refund for them for services I have not used. An account that I was not aware of was created in January, and my card information was used for this, then they billed me around 4 times with each time being around $40 a month. They did not send me a single invoice not one at all, I only found out about the charges when I looked at my bank account. I was not even sure who in the world shift4shop was so I went ahead and called the number on file for them. They picked up and told me that they would help me get it sorted out. They never called back, I sent an email and they said that for services rendered they could not give me a refund. No services were rendered no invoices were sent, no confirmation email of creating this company was even made. I have some random email from them. I tried logging in to the account that they had on file and it said the account was deleted. This is a scam of a company and I will let everyone know it. They still owe me my $156 dollars until they pay me back I will not rest. If they ever wish to give me my money back then all they need to do is contact me and I am fine with getting my money back, and even deleting some of my negative reviews.

Total Joke - Zero customer service. Everytime you ask for help, they come back with a question and just drag it along, until you give up. Save yourself time and aggrivation, do not do business with this business.

TERRIBLE service.... They held my property hostage and told me to pay a bill to them when my website was offline bc of this, I had been promised help and never heard back from them. Then they say theyll only let me access my site if I pay them money they wouldn't have been owed.

I've been trying to get my online store up and running for months. Customer service never understands your questions and when responding to your support ticket they give you basic information that you already know. I have been paying for over 6 months (not exaggerating) and I still can't launch my store nor get my $ back. You have to wait over 24 hours to receive any tech responses and once you do get a response they don't help at all. If you store was down - it would remain down for at least 24 hours. You're on your own with Shift4 Shop.
Sometimes you have to edit your template using html code to update your store. If you read their knowledge base/support help pages, it states that their so called techs do not have html knowledge and can't assist you. Why in the world are you offering and selling templates when you don't offer decent educated support for them?
Today I spent from 9am in the morning to 4:30 in the afternoon trying to edit products, set up categories and edit my template. I just wanted to get something accomplished. During all of that time I finally got 4 products added and I was not able to set up more categories or edit my template. If you're lucky enough to login you won't be able to access any sections of your store to work on updating anything.
Go elsewhere or you'll end up just like me . . . with nothing.

Customer Service just acts like you are completely stupid and cover the very basics like Check your spam folder etc. Then they finally put in a ticket for you and you wait, up to 24 hours, for a response from tech support. Your site could be fully down, and there is still no urgency on their end. We have had an issue not receiving copies of new order emails for almost 2 week and they have still not solved our issue. Blaming it on DNS/SPF/SSL/DKIM and telling us to go to my domain provider to fix it. Well we jumped through ALL of those hoops, and it still doesn't work. We provided previous ticket numbers where we had the same issue and it was solved by them "fixing it on their end" previously but for some reason this time they want to play the blame game.

No one, in customer service, or tech support, actually helps. If it's not something super simple, like you tapped an incorrect prompt, they just tell you how sorry they are, and send you on your way. They open a ticket. Then you get an email saying, well, nothing really. Just that you won't be getting your problem resolved.
Almost a week with the same problem, and IT'S. NO. BETTER. In all that time, between chat, emails, AND phone calls, one guy, ONE GUY, showed ANY decency, employed ANY patience, was helpful, and genuinely tried to deliver any REAL service.
One. guy.
The last guy was abhorrently rude. Argumentative, constantly talked over, had the gall to deliberately YELL ACROSS THE ROOM about me, IN THE THIRD PERSON...WHILE on the phone WITH ME, so I could hear him.

Shift4Shop bought 3dCart and "things"…
Shift4Shop bought 3dCart and "things" started to develop. In my experience many issues - servers down, updates caused issues, constantly having to contact support only to have tickets just sit somewhere for endless amounts of time. Used this platform for 8 years!
Gave them time to figure out how to run it after the buyout. Finally, in my experience too many constant issues - integrations were breaking and API's were not working. Always the same response given - submit a ticket!
Many former employees were leaving and the platform was not stable. Moving to a new platform can be a hassle so folks tend not to leave until it becomes urgent that they do - our online business is 100% of our sales which we do full time.
So many issues that have continued since the buyout and support tickets rarely get answered. We got that feeling that the platform will be lucky to survive. Then they replaced their phone support with folks who can't help you but only tell you to submit a ticket which don't get answered. It's a round about of chaos now.
Then, they announced a price increase of 40% and we decided to leave. We should have left years ago as we have had ZERO issues with the new platform we are using. It is so refreshing to have a stable platform - absolutely ZERO issues with our new platform and we switched at the start of this year.
Also another odd thing you can't view their forums until you have an account - they don't want you to see all the current customers complaining about issues all the time.
In my opinion, if you enjoy keeping an eye on your website daily for anything that might be broke - by all means get Shift4Shop, if you just want to run an online business and not have to constantly monitor your website, then go somewhere else.
If you don't know how to "fix" things when they are broken - you don't want to use S4S as their support is now that bad. Many of the people that ran 3dCart prior to the buyout have now left and S4S is hiring people that are clueless about the platform and simply don't seem trained.
Best decision we ever made was to leave!
3dCart was better
I thought I was the lucky one not running into problems like no response tickets or transaction failure until recently that one of my orders was approved but failed that got my attention. Chatted with the online support and they told me to email their risk dept and I didn't get any response so I called them and got transferred and received an answer that "they feel uncomfortable to tell me why my account got suspended" and would not transfer me to a manager that "all the staff are busy answering calls". So I didn't get an answer and didn't get notified beforehand that my account with them was suspended half month ago!! I lost 2 orders and got pissed off customers because of them!! Really bad performance they have.

Horrid customer service. Chat agents are clearly following a script and rather than answering the question, they send you a link. And then when I do finally get an answer to my question, I have to file another ticket. I follow up on the ticket and ask CS when the ETA is for the fix, and they tell me I've reached the wrong support. But I clicked on the support link they sent to my email! And then it's a whole lot of loops and passing the buck. I'm sure shift4shop is great for some folks, but for me, this was just a terrible CS experience. I'd rather pay the extra monthly fee to Shopify or wherever just to have straight answers and good CS.

They will blame your domain name provider, PayPal etc, and you will wait weeks for things to be resloved. Stay away from them as far as you can, and save yourself the headache.
What a joke
What a joke. I can't even get through the sign up process to build my site. One time I got through and their so called builder is so crappy, clunky, and slow it won't do anything. They need some serious work. Moving on.

It takes several minutes to recognize my login to the administrative end of my site and at least several minutes to go from section to section of the the administrative menu. I was a long-time satisfied customer of 3dcart and have noticed a complete degradation in the ability of the site to function ever since the takeover by shift4 took place. It is now almost impossible to get anything done such as filling a phone order, adding a new product, updating my inventory, or any other routine task that must be performed on my site. Their constant "updates" are a joke and each one seems to make things worse than before. They have been promising now for more than three months to move my site to another server which they say may improve things. Frankly, I doubt it and also can not get an explanation on why it is taking so long to accomplish this "move". They are ruining my business and I am exploring other sites that I can use to host my website. I am also planning to file a complaint against shift4 with the Better Business Bureau.
