Great staff that care for pets and Owners

I took two of my Labradors to Scarsdale Vets Derby for eye tests. In the waiting room I was very impressed with how all staff dealt with pets and owners. I had never been before and was very impressed with how I was dealt with and how the staff cared for my two dogs. I would 100% recommend this vets to anyone, and if I didn't live so far away, I would move to them for all of my Labradors. A 🌟

Very unprofessional

Been reading these reviews and I agree with you all.. Money, Money, Money... My Boxer girl was referred to here for a bone biopsy and scan.. Which would determine what cancer she had on her face.. Biopsy came back (they couldn't say which cancer she had)?? Thought that's why I paid for the biopsy??. But the said they could operate and take one side of her facial bones away and part of her jaw... ( but by not knowing which cancer it was their wasn't a guarantee it wouldn't come back.. Plus Chemo for months after and Radiotherapy ( which is either Liverpool or Scotland) at £5000 a session.. She wasn't too good after her biopsy, So we have decided to let nature take its course.. This was April of this year.. We have gone down the holistic route ( my Local vet just said give her paracetamol and in time codeine, you can tell they are not happy also with me taking her down the holistic route, they are saying "don't you think if they work we would be prescribing them".. NO..
She is now on number of supplements to help slow the tumour down. plus high spectrum CBD oil for dogs.. Her tumour is growing but she is still very playful, happy and eating loads.. Its been nearly 6 months now, I know I haven't got her for much longer, but I think the anxiety of a big operation would have been worse for her. Anyway my insurance would only pay a certain amount out for thr CT scan.. Which I only found out about this week when I received an invoice for the amount owning.. Within 3 days I paid it... Then yesterday (3 days after paying) I received another invoice saying I owed it.. (I understand it can take time to be processed) but what really p....... d me off was on the invoice in hand writing in RED PEN Underlined was the amount and pay immediately.... I'm fuming (very unprofessional) makes you realise its all about the money and not the animals they are supposed to do the best for..

Would leave less than one star if I…

Would leave less than one star if I could.Took my 12 year old white german shephard SPIKE there before xmas 2022, sent him away with acid reflux after two days of gruelling tests. Didn't give me any tablets or explain any medication or even dietary changes. Paid over the money ££££££, and then sent away with no answers. Then rang back a week later saying it was stomach cancer, but the cancer they expect would be in a mass but could only find polyps!! They said chemo at £800 a month and then another trip once a month to give bloods. When I asked what I could do to make him comfortable, they said "nothing - chemo or put him to sleep. You won't be able to cuddle him with chemo but he won't lose any fur!" So I was left to medicate and make dietary changes myself and googled like hell! Got him on another 9 months and he passed peacefully on Wednesday 6th September when unfortunately his back legs went. But there were no signs of cancer ie., vomit or toiletting or anything. And it was never picked up at cremation. Do not go here, pure and simple uncaring and just want to extract money from you. I have best part of another year with my boy, walking, playing and loving and I know he never suffered. Heartbroken.

Don't care about their job. Care about money though.

0 stars is not an option so I had to put one but they don't deserve it.

I went to pride park in Derby with my dog. Unusual breed and big dog. A lovely dog but bouncy because young.

The vet didn't even touch my dog.

He asked the wight of my dog. 36.7kg. My dog is clearly underweight. I know why and it is not a reason for concern but the vet didn't. I was expecting questions about his weight and nothing... he should be minimum 40kg. I raised my concern and he said that he didn't know that breed... weight is nothing to do with the breed. Dogs have body mass index like human!!

Then I mentioned an other issue that was on his record and he should have checked! Apparently he didn't need to on that day.

But I have been recommended to take an other appointment for next week.

I went to the reception and... £82...

For what? He didn't touch my dog, didn't check his heart, didn't ask about his weight, didn't ask about his problem on his medical report that should have been checked.

I went to scarsdale pride park because someone recommended me that vet...

This is just a factory where they don't even care about pets.

Let's find a proper vet who loves his/her job and care about animal.

Thank you but never again!!!!!

Brilliant team at Pride Park

Could not fault them at all. Took our Frenchie to Pride Vets Hospital for investigation and surgery. All staff we came into contact were absolutely brilliant, helpful, caring, understanding and obviously love animals. We were kept informed at every stage by registrars and surgeon face to face and by phone before and immediately after the op. Good result so far but awaiting biopsy results.
Can't thank the team enough. Well done!

Giving bad advice for a sick stray animal.

I was very saddened and disappointed when I phoned Scarsdale vets at Pride park to ask for help after rescuing a severely malnourished cat. I was told that they would only scan him for a chip but would not take him in to treat or care for him. I explained that he was severely malnourished, crawling in fleas, lethargic and struggling to walk or stand up. They still refused to look at him and I was advised to let him go and that he would eventually find his way home!!
Scarsdale clearly cares more about money than the welfare of animals. I have since found another vets who are now caring for the stray cat.

Didn't weigh our dog before…

Didn't weigh our dog before administering drugs and sedatives. Which meant inaccurate dose volume. After we brought our dog home he lost the use of his hind legs.
I pulled the data sheet for the drug given and the dosage was enough to have killed our poor pup if we hadn't stepped in. They took no responsibility for their negligence! Don't go here as they are unsafe to practice!

Andrea McGregor was an absolute breath of fresh air. I have taken my dog to so many vets over the years and by far she has been the most informative and empathetic vet I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. All treatment options explored and discussed. Thorough examination of my dog. Thanks Andrea x

Don’t loose your money and your mind

Answer from Scarsdalevets:

Thank you for your patience while I looked into the concerns you raised in your email to us.
I can see that we registered you as a new client with our first opinion service. We do have two first opinion vets who see exotics patients exclusively and Dolly was booked in to see these.
The vet examined Dolly and identified the fracture in the upper left incisor. She explained that there was a possibility this may extend all the way to the root and her professional opinion was that the tooth should be removed due to the risk that it may fully fracture, become painful, and could hinder Dolly when eating.
When one incisor tooth is removed from a guinea pig the opposite tooth will no longer wear down so will need regular trimming every 3 weeks to 3 months depending on how fast they grow. Some vets offer removal of the remaining incisors as a longer-term solution. I understand this was not an option you wanted to pursue.
During the initial examination an abdominal mass was identified so Dolly was booked in for a scan on 19th January.
You ask why we admit patients early for procedures that may not happened until later in the day. This is because as a large hospital we triage patients on the day according to urgency. It also allows us time to monitor patients and perform pre procedure checks. I can see that the estimated time for the scan was between 10am and 12pm. I am sorry if this was not made clear to you.
A type of scan was performed that is very quick so is less risk for guinea pigs than an ultrasound scan. The cost is also considerably less. This type of scan is designed to enable the vet to be able to make an immediate assessment and as such it is not our standard procedure to save records of these images. I am sorry that you were disappointed to learn that there are no pictures, however the vet was able to make an assessment of the mass and diagnosed a possible ovarian cyst.
I note that you took Dolly to another vet for a second opinion. I trust that Dolly is doing well.
We do strive to provide excellent service and it is disappointing that on this occasion you feel that we have fallen short of your expectations. I would like to reassure you that we constantly review our service from the client’s viewpoint based on feedback such as yours. In this way we hope to constantly improve the way we work and interact with our clients to provide a consistently good level of service.”

In this answer we can see how they care.
What a shame.

my snake has been sick for weeks

my snake has been sick for weeks. They haven't offered any treatment. They didnt call back. I can't be the only one with a snake with this issue and yet they continue to let her suffer after test after test and I pay out the nose for it. For nothing. She's getting worse and it's affecting MY health too. Now they want to do an MRI. £800 and there's no guarantee we find the problem. Just prescribe something. Let us TRY some treatment. I'm desperate at this point.

I would put zero but you cannot

I would put zero but you cannot. I have sat here today, read all your complaints regarding scarsdale pride Park. How right you all are!! Our recent treatment and their greed words fail me. It cost my beautiful dog Bailey its life !! One the Wed before he died on the Friday my sister pointed out her concerns, this should have been enough too realise he was had septicaemia and needed to be put on a antibiotics drip instead they sent him home to die, this is stated on the Rcvs advice in the information they give regarding septicaemai. To say my daughter is devasted it is beyond that. She feels she killed him but it was pride park that did that. All they care about is money, money, money. There is no compassion for Client or the pet, it is just the money and elaborated cost. I will not go into depth of the illness of my dog. One example alone when he had an operation on tumour. First of all estimated cost 4000 to 5000, if there were no complications it would be 4000, if there any problems 5000, which we were told it went smoothly, when we went to pay the bill it was 6.500 but he had kindly take the 1500 off, joke it should have only been the 4000 I think we should of hit the road running but we had a sick dog and a lot more money was taken. How can they charge 450 for a normal xray and yet 500 for ct scan, the price for the scan is about right but robbery on the xray. There is lot more I could say but sadly our beautiful boy paid price for them and suffered. We should have bought him home after the operation and have no more treatment and left him in arms of Saint Francis and God's hands he would have got more compassion and it would not be estimated on the cost, that is what we would have accepted. Never again will any pet of mine go through those gates of this practise. I not sure how we are ever going to live with this and we cannot get him back. But there is one thing we will get is justice, firstly MP regarding the monopoly of the company who owns them but not just them. Then the CEO of independant vets AT THE CHOCLATE FACTORY BRISTOL MR CLARK WITH no vet qualification at all however, he has an engineering degree, what a joke. PLEASE IF YOU LOVE UR ANIMAL DO NOT GO THERE, WE HAVE PAID DEARLY.

DISGRACE OF A BUSNIESS - ABSOLUTELY EXTORTIONATE - 0 COMPASSION FOR PEOPLE

I took my 7 month old dog down over a year and a half ago with a broken tib and fib after someone stood on him..naturally I panicked and couldn't wait so took him to scarsdale pridepark.
They told me they didn't have anyone on site that could look at him there and then, and would need to stay in for someone to assess him at 09:00... at a price of £400... for what .. to lie there when he could just lie in his crate at home.
Went back down the next day to say they've xrayed him and confirmed the break, and that he required a metal fixed plate... estimate at around £1500-£2000, .. very naively I didn't even think the price would increase I just assumed that was that.
Had the plate fitted stayed in for 3 days then returned.. was told he'd need to go back for check ups... no mention of price at all.. again assumed all was covered innthe first payment... the plate had a small infection which needed yet more medication and more xrays.. not knowing each xray was £400.
After 2 months I was told I owe around £7000... so from the initial £1500... it then hiked to over £7000.
The leg healed, everything was okay .. although the plate look very big for his actual leg didn't think too much of it, untill 4 days ago when the plate just randomly started pertruding through his leg, like physically can see the metal showing out his skin, took him back down to be told the plate needs removing.. at a cost we have to cover of £1500-£2000... now after spending alot of money and time down there.. I know that price will increase to over £4000.. at which scarsdale are refusing to cover as they say the operation and the plate is fine... I cannot fathom how a year later I'm now being forced into yet more debt..after completely miss selling the actual cost of his care, after very poor aftercare, after thinking the huge plate fitted, to a growing pup would be satisfactory.

He had to go back again around Xmas due to a separate issue with his skin coming out in red blotches.. was told again he'd have to stay in and have medication and multiple test.. at a cost of £2000 - to be told they don't know the issue.. they then gave us some anti histamines.. extortionate price when human tablets would of done the exact same thing.. £2000 to be told they don't know what the issue is .. when infact it was a slight reaction to something.. is beyond a joke .. the issue cleared and he's been fine since...

Close to £10,000 in just over a year and a half - and wanting more is absolutely vile.

0 compassion, 0 care, just want money, after scaremongering people into wanting the best for their pet.

Disgusted is an understatement.

Stay very, very clear of this miss selling vile business... because that's all it is ... a business

A great experience from start to finish!

Having read all the many negative reviews, I was not looking forward to taking our dog, Rosie here. She had been referred by my regular vets, for a MRI scan.
But, I am happy to say that I was worrying for nothing, as the whole experience was great from start to finish.

The reception staff were all very friendly and efficient.

Then the lady named Beatrice, who took down all the information about Rosie and her symptoms, in great detail, before the consultant examined her, was brilliant. She was very patient with me, explaining anything I didn't understand over and over until I did!

Then we met Chris, the consultant that examined Rosie. He gave us a very clear understanding of what the likely causes of our dogs problems were.
He explained about the MRI scan and the spinal tap he was also going to perform.
The scan revealed that Rosie had a form of meningitis. Chris explained in great detail the treatment available, and what to reasonably expect recovery wise.

They kept her in for two nights, and when we went to pick her up, the difference in her was amazing after just two days of meds.
They called me each morning and one evening to update me on Rosie's progress, at the time they said they would.

Yes it has been expensive, but nothing was done without discussing the cost and options first, and nobody tried to talk me into anything.

So, from my own personal experience, if it wasn't over an hours drive away from home, I would use them all the time.

And one week on, Rosie is making fantastic progress, almost back to her old self.

Thank you all.

LIARS - THIEVES - DISHONEST to a person with palliative cancer.................

took my 2yr old dog as a referral from local vets. travelled from doncaster for initial consultation £270. she went in with a 'drunken wobble'. i have insurance but this ONLY covers £1500 for scans.
I was told they would re-book her in for a scan.
The phone calls I had with the finance department, their receptionists and even their bloody vets in the consolation room - I MADE CLEAR - I HAVE NO MORE MONEY, please DO NOT go over the allowance. I have no money, I am on the sick and already have enough to battle with away from deceitful vets!!!
I took her back for the MRI scan, they came back to advise she has 2 cysts on her back..... no guarantee but we can operator an additional £5,500 plus what ever she made need after that, again no gaurantees.

The bill came through stating I owed an extra £750?????? seriously!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They've even brought forward a sum of £219.25, why???? id already paid them 177.87

I am so angry, so angry feel so betrayed by what should be a reputable;e company

if you keep reading the reviews, it seems I am not the only person that has been robbed

Scarsdale no compassion

Scarsdale are taking advantage of people with sick animals by hiking the prices when people are in need. I tried to get an appointment for my sick dog and they said they were fully booked but could offer me an emergency appointment for £97 consult fee!! This was in the middle of a normal working day so just taking advantage of people needing urgent treatment. I’ve had bad service when my dog has been in before with no contact from the staff there and all shifting the responsibility to call and update me onto someone else. I won’t use them ever again, they really don’t care about the animals or how stressful it is when your pet is sick, they have no compassion or empathy at all!!!

DEVOID OF ALL CARE - SHOCKINGLY BAD in every respect and do…

SHOCKINGLY BAD in every respect and do not deserve one star but there is no option for zero! We telephoned ahead and took my very unwell cat to this awful place (my own vets "out of hours option"). On arrival three ladies behind the reception desk who were not interested in listening to why my cat was there AND informing them she ALWAYS has Gabapentin to go to the vet so will need sedating still insisted she needed to go to Triage but I refused, regardless of saying this NINE times to them and vet Nicola (whose attitude was insulting and uncaring). After explaining that my cat has been having two weekly treatment for 9 months now she said she would "try to access her records" and she did manage to call my own vet. She then took my cat through to examine her, we heard loud growling etc and she came back to the consulting room saying "we can't handle her" and there were (literally) clumps of fur in the carrier!! When we asked what the plan was she said "Well, we can keep her here in a kennel overnight to monitor her but it won't be possible to put her on fluid therapy or you take her home and watch her!" My cat was dehydrated already at this point so I asked her "if you can't answer this question then don't respond - but do you think my cat will make it through the night?" Vet Nicola responded "well she doesn't look like a cat that is about to die!" I went to pay and there was no charge because (the receptionist said) "we didn't do anything" - well they certainly got that right! We ended up taking my cat home, I video called my old vet in Spain who confirmed my cat was dehydrated and possibly had ingested something; I spent the whole night giving her water with a syringe, made organic chicken broth and aspic (which she started to take by 05:00) and called my own vet as soon as they opened. Please, because you love your pet talk to your own vet NOW about this shameful practice and arrange an alternative vet for emergency situations; Scarsdale DO NOT have to have the monopoly if people complain to their own vet. To sum up - if I found a dead cat in the street that had been hit by a car I wouldn't even take it to Scarsdale to see if it had a chip!!
