Very Quick and Easy Account Opening Process
The interest rate on my Chase account is about to drop having reached its year anniversary so I was looking for another high interest instant access account to move my savings to. After reading the negative reviews I was almost put off applying for the high interest Saga Savings account. I'm so glad I ignored them. It was one of the easiest account opening processes I've encountered (and I've opened accounts with many different providers over the years). The account was up and running instantly I'd completed the application which took about 5 mins. I had my passport and a bank statement ready for ID purposes but they weren't required. Yes, it would be more convenient if the account were accessible via an app, but the website is very easy to use so this is a minor issue. I would definitely recommend.
Invest Elsewhere & Save Yourself So Much Greif
I tried to open 2 savings accounts for myself and my wife. The SAGA process was exceptional, and not in a good way. Way over the top with far too many checks that I have never experienced before at any other bank. My application was delayed for 72 hours "for review", I now have a beard which does not match my DL. My wife's application was approved without any need for scanned docs etc. When we tried to transfer funds to my wife's new account it is BLOCKED. My account does not even exist. WTF are these people playing at? Absolute zero on customer support and ease of use. It is easier to give your money away to a drug addict than invest with SAGA, it is certainly a lot less hassle.
Don’t Bother. Worst customer experience ever and when you leave they restrict your withdrawals!
Only recently setup account and then they start offering better rates for new customers. I asked for the new rate but they said i couldn’t have it as it was only for new customers. I then said i wanted to withdraw all my savings but they then said they had placed limits on daily withdrawals so i couldn’t do it in one go. I started to withdraw my savings and enquired about closing the account but told them i didn’t want to close it if it meant the money wouldn’t be paid straight away. The next thing i find they started the close process against my wishes, locking my money up for a further 3 working days as my account was frozen and unable to be unlocked for me to extract the balance. Finally just in case i wanted to be a new customer again they said once an account is closed i will never be allowed another one for the rest of my life! as that’s their policy when customers close accounts! What kind of customer service is that? Also seems unsustainable. Worst customer service i have ever experienced so wouldn’t have even given one star if i’d had the option on the review.

Surprised by the low grades here. My recent experience has been excellent: not just good interest rates (4.5%) but also immediate deposits and withdrawals - even at a weekend. Shame they don’t have an app - and once you’ve got over the ‘where do I log in’ remembering you’re with NatWest and not Goldman Sachs - it’s easy. Had those two things been clearer/available they would have 5*
Won't be bothering with SAGA ever again.
Applied online for the 4.5% easy access saver account and spent ages completing the online form to finally get a screen saying wait while we do the checks and after a while it said I had to call Saga. Got a few savings accounts with online building societys never had this problem. Got a perfect credit score of 598 so WHY are they refusing me. Read other reviews and decided NO WAY do I want to put £1000s with SAGA. Daft thing is I had a savings account with Saga a few years ago.

There are lots of reviews saying registering process was difficult. I did not find this, It took less than five minutes.
Money has been transferred in easily.
No issues at all.

Complete waste of time completing the form, only to be confronted with having to scan a barcode. My phone doesn't scan barcodes. This savings account is supposed to be for older folk. I am absolutely disgusted with saga for wasting my valuable time. Never again.

Easy and Solid account no complaints -I cannot understand what people are complaining about it was the easiest account to open. Initially I transferred a small bit in and withdrew back and forth to ensure I could get money in and out easily - and it was fine. Now I am putting more in more money and the interest is coming through monthly - Great - maybe the rate drops after the 1st year but as an instant saver the rate is still pretty good.

Dreadful experience trying to open a Saga Savings Account. Four days (so far )and nothing but AI generated messages telling me - nothing!! You have to wonder why they make such a big issues trying to verify the details of someone who intends to hand over their life savings to them. Fortunately I have taken the time to check them out and decided it would be best to find anternative company to trust with my money.

Steer clear of SAGA MONEY - especially if you're a Saver aged 50 or over!
As someone else commented, this is a TRAP! Not surprising, really, as it's backed by NatWest, and it's hard to get much worse than that!!
Here's my scenario. I recently received an Inheritance of £80k, and while I have a number of accounts with different banks/institution, understandably I wanted to find a new, unique home for this, and one where access was easy, and further expected payments-in were possible.
The Saga Easy Access Savings Account seemed fine, with a rate of 4.11% AER (variable), so I invested the £80k.
Now, just a few weeks later, I find they have raised this to 4.50% - at a time when we're more used to getting emails telling us that an interest rate we've been enjoying, has now been reduced. Of course, in Saga's case, not only has the rate actually been INCREASED, but - you've guessed it! - we received no email telling us, nor how to take advantage of this as existing customers!
Often, rate changes, especially reductions, are annoying, but not usually cause to move funds immediately somewhere else!. Conversely, rate INCREASES are a definite bonus, of course, and even if the company doesn't have to let you know when the rate has actually gone UP, most of us keep a regular eye on this, to make sure we're getting the most for our money, in as much as where we are saving it, and, if we see any RISE at all, we contact the company to switch to this, which is usually no problem!
In the Saga case, with my initial £80k deposit, the new rate provides roughly £26 per month (interest is available monthly), and definitely NOT to be sneezed at!
I phoned Saga who, of course, politely confirmed that, while the increase was correct, as it said online, it was available ONLY to NEW customers. Now I grant that in the whole of the business sector, there aren't some products/deals which are available to NEW customers ONLY, but I'd say that more and more respectable and caring companies now make their products - new, or existing - available to every customer, new or existing, as this very much points to a rare concept nowadays - product loyalty - rather than Saga's 'we couldn't care less about you, and if you don't like it, just b*gger off elsewhere!' Very appropriate, I'd say, for a long-standing company whose name has always suggested the particular care of, and empathy for those of us over 50. Of course, I appreciate that this financial product is fronted by NatWest, and, in my opinion, you could scarcely get a worse company in terms of customer care, transparency, or indeed accountability.
So, once the agent had confirmed that the 4.50% rate was for new customers only, I asked whether I could therefore completely close my present 4.11% account - think of a number, double it, take away my inside-leg measurement, and say three 'Hail Marys', even though I'm not a Catholic - and then return as a completely reinvented new customer, then surely I would be eligible to open a new a/c with Saga at 4.50%?
No way, because my name and details are still on their records, which seems contrary to Data Protection Laws, given that, once I had completely removed all the proceeds from my a/c, and was name supposedly DELETED, Saga still keeps it anyway!
This wasn't any kind of ISA a/c where I could under the stand the need for records to be kept for HMRC purposes, and where, of course, my details need to be kept on record, at least for the rest of the current Tax Year!
So, I then suggested shutting my existing account immediately, and taking out all the proceeds, returning them to the designated current account at Santander, whence they came in the first place.
I have done this on a number of occasions with no manner of similar financial, and in nearly every case the a/c is closed, there and then, after any accrued interest is added, and the WHOLE of the proceeds (usually ca.£85k each time, before the cap was more recently raised to £120k) was in my bank account by the end of the next working day!
When I enquired about this with Saga, the whole process could take some 4-5 days apparently, to extricate myself fully, even though you will appear to hang on to me personal details. With each withdrawal capped at a ridiculously low figure of some £10k, or some apparent palaver by which this can be doubled to £20k in any 24-hour period, I don't even appear have the luxury of getting my own money back within an acceptable period of time, given that we're in 2026, not 1926!
Judging by other posts here, you show little, if any genuine concern for customers, and I'm now wondering whether this is your attitude right across the board, with regards every area Saga has got its sticky finger in.
I am happy to move my funds elsewhere, and point out just how shabbily I feel I, and other senior citizens have been treated by Saga - 'focused on serving the needs of those aged 50 and over!' (Google: July 2026)
Quite happy.
I was wary after reading reviews but carried on anyway as my Chase high interest had come to an end,I found everything fairly straight forward as a new customer to saga, they needed to see my grant of probate as proof of where my money came from which was fine, because of money laundering.
So far so good, first chunk of money was accepted so here we go for another year!
Saga Savings via Natwest not good
Opened a Natwest account but couldn't see any account number or reference once logged in. Customer services - first time I got through the rep sounded as though she was doing the dishes per the background noise - I made another too calls and got fed up waiting for someone to answer so have moved on to another provider

Interest rate now 4.5 for new instant savers. In the past you could upgrade. Now you can't. Good way to lose customers. I for one will be looking elsewhere asap.
Really not at all bad so far
Almost didn't bother after all the bad reviews here.
They did check me quite thoroughly - and I almost gave up with them.
But I have nothing to hide and in the end they opened the account which seems quite clean and decent really - I am able to instantly transfer money back and fourth to my Barclays account and the 4.5% rate is good.
I like how they use 2FA (number texted to phone) for login (unlike CharterSavings which, despite having much better reviews, requires me to remember the 7th, 9th and 3 character from some random bit of information I have probably already forgotten - so archaic!)
They only allow withdrawals of £10k a time and a max of £20k a day, but you can (apparently) increase that cap and then just make more multiples of £10k withdrawals - I'll need this once my bonus rate ends in a year....

Impossible to take a pic of your passport on their system no scans or photocopies allowed. When you fit the passport into the screen it obscures the button to press to take the photo.
I am taking my money somewhere else with a more simple and easy to open account procedures.
WAY TOO COMPLICATED
Tried to open an immediate access savings account. I've had accounts with Saga for years but in trying to open a new account, I almost lost the will to live. Bear in mind Saga are targeting 'older' people, the account opening process is so complicated and time consuming, something I don't want. I've opened lots of savings accounts with other banks/building societies with minimal fuss but I've never been asked to make a video of myself and upload pics of my driving license before, especially as I'm an existing customer. Opened an account with a different bank instead, marginally less interest but a whole lot easier!

Its not as slick as some of these modern apps but I was able to onboard without issue.
