The food we had on the way in a motorway service station was better than the unimaginative and distinctly average plates they served for dinner. The staff are rude and find it impossible to apologise.If you're taller than 5 feet 10 inches you won't fit in the beds. Our room was dirty. It's impossible to leave a message by phone as they don't have voicemail and they never answer your calls. All in all an expensive disaster.

Zero compassion and care!

I’ve been meaning to review my experience with this establishment for quite some time. I paid £205 with Groupon for a one night stay including breakfast and a three course meal. Sadly, both my parents were diagnosed with cancer in Cyprus and I travelled there to be with them for months, messaging the hotel to explain my predicament. Prior to my return, I requested an extension of my voucher. Some 30 emails back-and-forth later they stood uncompassionate and uncaring. They refused to allow me to visit the hotel at a later date. I explained in detail the reasons why I couldn’t make the voucher expiry date and pleaded with them, that especially after the traumatic time I had had with my parents, it would be lovely for me to be able to enjoy a night away. They point blank refused.How disgusting. Just another show of how peoples behaviour can be so disappointing. A room was not reserved for me, so they didn’t miss out on offering it elsewhere, the breakfast and the three course meal obviously were not prepared for me, since a reservation wasn’t made, so no loss was incurred. Simply, they had no qualms or conscience for taking £205 and offering nothing in return. Well done Rudloe, quite a horrible show of customer service, you really let yourselves down on this one!
I added a date of experience, as it wouldn’t allow me to continue… the irony!

Outstanding for a 3 star

Just returned from a 2 night half board break at the Rudloe Arms also known as the House in the woods. The entrance is a bit blind off Box Hill and near enough on the junction. The main house was under scaffolding on our visit.

We stayed in the annexe called the coach house. Our room was really clean and a mixture of beautiful mouse man furniture and modern art pictures of Marilyn Munroe. The antique bed was lovely and comfortable, the bathroom had a lovely big double shower which was lovely and warm. Breakfast and dinner are served in the main house, the staff are welcoming and attentive, the food was amazing for all our meals there's a small choice of meals as it's a set menu but I did hear staff offereing alternatives to other customers with special requirements and even taking a customers own bread to toast for them I don't even like chocolate mousse but ate it 2 nights running it was so good.

I've read other complaints from customers about many things but out stay was wonderful and will definitely be going back.

To make our stay even more memorable we met Mr White himself who lives at the Rudloe Arms when in England and I have to say he is very charming and polite and engages you in conversation he told us how he loves Wales (picked up on our Welsh accents) and how he used to fish on the River near Monmouth most of all Mr White is thankful for you staying at his home and is not at all like a celebrity.

Business stay,

Business stay,
Tricky to find but once inside was a great experience. I booked the dinner, bed & breakfast rate.
Dinner was fantastic and as a veggie was not on the menu but staff made me a fantastic 3 course meal.
Room was very comfortable and and had a luxury feel.
Breakfast was equally as impressive as dinner.
Plenty of parking and it’s free.

I am leaving tomorrow and can’t wait as no Tv no hot water for bath.I booked bed and breakfast plus evening meal of which was so bad tonight we went to the local pub and how can they charge you £7.50 extra for fried breakfast.I truly think this is the worst place I have stayed stay away if u know what’s good for you

Luciano Pierre White ruined our visit

Does Marco have no pride in his business to let his entitled son ruin the reputation of his hotel and restaurant. Whilst the bedrooms and décor are fabulous, my recommendation is to avoid this place at all costs. Please do not be seduced by special offers unless you are prepared to spend a fortune on drinks and meal supplements.
Four well-travelled and highly experienced 60 year olds who will never recommend or visit again.

Unprofessionalism, Poor service, and Disregard for safety

Our experience at this hotel was nothing short of a nightmare. Here's what happened:
1. Unauthorised Charges: Without our approval, the hotel over charged our credit card for items, they state a price on a menu and charge you something completely different. When we tried to contact them to dispute the charges, they just ignored our emails (I had previous conversation via email but these they ignored).
2. Misleading Check-Out Time: The hotel advertised an 11 a.m. check-out time. We even had written confirmation of this. However, they charged our credit card with late check-out fee, claiming the check-out time was 10 a.m. This is blatantly dishonest and feels like a deliberate scam. Despite numerous emails sent requesting a refund for the late check-out fee and an acknowledgment of the issue, the hotel has yet to respond or offer any resolution.
3. Non-existent Customer Support: There’s no working phone number to call for assistance. Even the so-called emergency out-of-hours number went unanswered. It’s clear they don’t prioritise their guests or their concerns.
4. Health and Safety Issues: The accommodation block had a strong smell of gas throughout our stay. This alone is incredibly alarming, but it gets worse – the alarm was constantly going off, day and night, making it impossible to rest or feel safe. The hotel did nothing to address these critical issues, putting their guests at serious risk.
5. Disappointing Food: The breakfast was mediocre at best. Cheap, nasty toast was the main offering, and additional charges for side dishes at breakfast felt unnecessary and greedy, and we were shocked at a £5 for a glass of orange juice that wasn’t even fresh. Dinner again mediocre with shop-bought stodgy gnocchi which was far from appetising. A few items were of good quality, such as the full English (additional charge), and the broth was genuinely delicious. Unfortunately, these highlights couldn’t make up for the overall low standard of the food.
This level of unprofessionalism, poor service, and disregard for safety is unacceptable. We’ve tried repeatedly to resolve these issues through email, but the lack of acknowledgment shows a complete lack of care for guests. I strongly advise anyone considering staying here to think twice. There are plenty of other hotels with transparent policies, better customer service, and a commitment to safety and quality.

Surcharges for lots of things, low quality room.

Some good points but many more bad points.
The staff were very pleasant and polite, we can't fault that. The food was mostly very good, as expected seeing as the hotel is owned by Marco Pierre-White, though we know that he doesn't do the cooking himself, it is his team who do all that. The location of the hotel was perfect for what we wanted to do - visit the Roman Bath house in Bath. We were both given a complimentary cocktail on arrival (though this had to be claimed by 5pm on arrival day or you just wouldn't get one). There wasn't any choice of cocktails, you got what you are given. I'm not sure but I think it was a Mimosa as we were just handed it by the barman.... The gardens were typically of a Roman style, not surprising given the location and also MPW's heritage as he is half Italian I believe. They were nice, we sat in them for our arrival cocktail. They were a bit overgrown but we could still sit relatively comfortably at one of the tables.
The food was good, nicely presented and always arrived very hot, and it kept the heat too. The menu was limited though, which we expected as our whole stay was bought through Wowcher and didn't expect the full whack anyway. I had poached egg one morning and part of the egg white was still not quite cooked, I put that bit aside but I'm not sure if I'd already eaten any uncooked egg before I noticed, and strangely enough I had a bad case of sickness and diarrhoea later in the middle of the night. Sides are all at an extra cost, so if, like my husband, you wanted potatoes and veg with your steak you will have to fork out an extra £5 - per side. So it cost an extra £10 just for my husband to have any veg with his steak! The steak itself was excellent, according to my husband. The breakfasts incur the same additional £5 charge if you want fresh orange juice with it, so again another £10 as we both like orange juice with our breakfasts. You do get complimentary tea or coffee with breakfast but neither of us drink that and the waitress looked at us as if we had two heads when we said no thanks to that and asked for some OJ instead. You'd think she would have just replaced the tea/coffee with the orange juice at no extra charge but that didn't happen.The cost of alcoholic drinks was ridiculous too, if you wanted another cocktail aside from your free welcome one it would have cost another £12.50, a bottle of beer is £7.50 and just a diet coke (unsure if it was a can, bottle or even draught - we didn't try to find out) was £4.95!! So if the two of us had wanted to stay in the fig tree garden and just have a few drinks without going elsewhere it could have easily cost us £100, just for one evening's drinks. But if you're thinking "Well we can just go somewhere local, buy a few cans and take them back to the room" - yes you could but if you leave ANY signs such as bottle tops or empty cans, you will get charged £40 corkage. So take any rubbish (food waste too) and put it straight in your car so that room service doesn't find it. Or just ask for no room service that day.
Our room was pretty large and on the ground floor of the separate Treetops building, and it did have a smart TV. The room was dark though, and the lights and lamps weren't quite bright enough. There were two windows which didn't open at all, and two french doors which did open but we actually didn't work this out until the morning we left as when we tried them they were very stiff and we thought they were locked. They opened out on the ground floor right onto the back of the small parking area, so there's no way you could have left them open and gone out for the day like you might have with a window on an upper floor. And you wouldn't want to leave them open at night to get some fresh air when you were in bed, for obvious reasons. So the two night stay wasn't hugely pleasant as we just couldn't ventilate the room. In bed at night, we both found all of the pillows were too soft, and there was no support in them at all. I'd actually recommend people to take their own pillows. Awful. The bed smelt very stale, almost like stale cigarette smoke, though it surely can't have been that. Very unpleasant. The carpets and rugs were threadbare in numerous places, and the rug under the bed was rucked up and wouldn't flatten at the edges. I tripped over it a few times. The bathroom was big and had a huge waterfall shower. The water was hot which was good, but there was no hand soap anywhere so we had to actually use the supplied shampoo to wash our hands with instead. The bathroom ceiling was badly touched up too, and even though there was some kind of a very small fan in the wall I didn't notice it working at any time during our stay, which was a particular problem as we couldn't open any windows in the bedroom either. So many negatives, no room left to write. Just avoid.
