Traumatic experience with Prometric
I had a horrible, traumatic experience with Prometric. I enrolled to take a $400 test and studied for months. I opted to take the test via a virtual proctor, through Prometric. I read the instructions, watched the tutorials, tested all my equipment, and was ready to log in, get cleared, and take the test.
It took Prometric 70-75 minutes to complete my clearance and start my test. I was passed around to four different proctors, each of whom had to restart the security clearance process and had a different understanding of the "rules".
The first proctor repeatedly spoke over me, jumping right to "I am sorry, you cannot take the test" rather than working with me to find workable solutions. After paying $400, waiting and studying for months, I did not appreciate being told I needed to reschedule over and over again, and for fixable reasons.
They have a list of tasks they need to go through to complete the screening (to ensure I do not have access to any test materials), and I understand this. Still, as we tried to go through the list, she saw an issue with every step and, instead of stating something as simple as "You will need to remove the airpods from your ears now and for the remainder of the test" (noise cancelling), she would jump to "I'm sorry, you can't take the test today because you are not allowed to wear cordless ear pieces". And when I would try to answer that I'd take them out, she would talk over me and start initiating an exit from the camera, closing the call. This happened not once or twice but with every single step we had to work through.
The main issue is that I live in a tiny manufactured house with an open floor plan, and I use portable walls and X-Pen gates to separate my dogs when needed. She told me to put the gates and a soundproof wall around my desk to separate the dogs from me, and I did. A few minutes later, she starts with, "I'm sorry, you can't take the test." I kept saying, "I am doing everything you are asking me to do, what have I not complied with? Why are you telling me over and over again that I cannot take the test? If you see a problem - tell me so I can change it - please stop telling me you are stopping the call and preventing me from taking the test." This went on and on.
Then, she suddenly disappeared, and proctor #2 came on. He also disappeared a few minutes later, and after several minutes of me frantically typing in the chat box, asking where the proctor was, thinking there was no one online on the other side, #3 entered. Each time this happened, we started over AGAIN.
At this point, I am told that the wall is not allowed, and I can't take the test with the dogs in the same room, even if the gates and portable walls keep them separated. I was told I could not take the test in the bathroom, even though the criteria are "enclosed room with a door, no other living beings in the same room." I have two cats in my bedroom, so I could not take the test there. Each proctor has stricter "rules" and, at some point, this guy disappears, too. No word, no warning, just gone. Oh, and a few minutes into the call, I asked to speak to a supervisor (for the umpteenth time), and he lied and said he was one. A supervisor announces they are such when they come on a call, and he had no more abilities than any of the previous two proctors. So, he also disappears out of nowhere, and a final one comes on, and she was actually quite perfect. We went through the protocol in a few minutes. I put my dogs in the bathroom and took the test.
I definitely sound like a "Karen" in this situation, but honestly, it was so incredibly stressful. I was already nervous for the test, but I was also excited. I worked really hard to get to the testing date. Instead of this being a milestone, the experience was just horrible. I know I flubbed the test because I had spent over an hour being passed around without anyone telling me what was going on, and each person telling me different, new rules that made the previous accommodations null and void. I half expected her to ask me to jump on one foot, tap my head, and make circling motions on my stomach because it got so ridiculous. They have directives and are doing their job. Still, there is a way to communicate with people so that we can come up with solutions, rather than repeatedly asserting control and potentially flushing my $400, time, and effort down the drain. Rather than creating solutions, they made it about their ability to stop me from taking the test. That is not good customer service. I was willing/able to make changes had I been given the chance. #4 proves it. I don't think I'll retake the test because I do not want to deal with this company ever again. That's sad. A professional opts not to take a certification test because the proctoring company is THAT horrific. Proctors should help make the experience LESS stressful, not more.
Ridiculous experience
The system worked fine once I got started but it took over an hour and 5 attempts to get my “environment” acceptable. The set up staff wanted me to remove my wedding ring, the photos off of my walls and the fan off of my desk. Ridiculous. They were suspicious of the sprinkler in the ceiling and my chapstick. I was taking a certification test, not applying for national security clearance.
Speak English
Despite taking only 2 tests by Prometric, I’ve had the unfortunate experience of having 5+ different proctors. They will literally pause your test so they can switch proctors in the middle of your test at any random point… Each and every one was unintelligible to say the least. I have not understood a full sentence from ANY of the proctors. Their accent is too thick.
Took my money but did not test
I had a test to take with prometric. Well I was trying to do it remote because the nearest testing site is over a hour away and I work during the day. I took off early from work for this test so hopefully if I passed I would start another career orientation the next day. I did everything I was suppose to do and even logged in over 30 minutes early. Well I saw six people each one would find something I had to move or saw some furniture in my room etc they claimed that could reveal test answers it was ridiculous and even wanted me to move a tv out of my room that did not even work and I showed the guy it was not even plugged in. So after rearranging my whole bedroom and taking multiple pictures of my license to be sure it was me which it is illegal for me to use someone elses license kid you not. They wasted almost 2 hours of my time and I told them look I have another engagement I have to attend to so I need to get to that. They our course said I can reschedule but insisted on keeping my money. I submitted a ticket for that which I am not counting on it. They even had one guy who refused to come of the camera which was weird. You are better off driving or hitching a ride to a test location because if you are in a furnished lived in part of your residence these folks make it very very difficult for you.
Horrible experience
I had a very upsetting experience at Prometric Test Center #5332 (930 Commonwealth Ave, Boston) on September 3, 2025, during my IRS Special Enrollment Exam.
I arrived slightly behind schedule but was calm and cooperative. The front desk was checking me in when the site manager, Jorge Benitez, suddenly interrupted, said “No,” stopped the process, and told me to “get out of here.” He then called the police—even though I had done nothing disruptive.
I was denied the exam, lost my fee, and was left embarrassed and distressed in front of others. This behavior is unacceptable in a federally contracted testing center.
I have already filed complaints with Prometric’s Legal Department and the Better Business Bureau, and I will continue escalating until a fair resolution is reached.
Shady lay offs
The company can improve by being overall transparent when dealing with potential lay offs. Alot of back and forth and secrecy between the company and it's contractors. Said they were gonna close, to then turn around and keep the business open only for a day. To make matters worse once you try to file for unemployment they fight it saying you were fired when in fact you were laid off. My advice if you work here print all the emails from this business and save them in case you need it to file.
This company should not be administering important test
After seeing these reviews, I shouldn’t be surprised by the horrible customer service I received. Nothing about these comments, says that this company is functioning on any capacity effectively. And for the state to allow them to be the only source to administer important exams is appalling. I’ve never had a customer service rep yell at me and tell me there are no supervisors. I never raised my voice at this young lady. I simply asked a question. Would it be more effective to take my test in person since there are so many issues with remote online testing. People trying to better themselves should not have to deal with people who have given up and clearly have no respect for their job or the people they’ve been hired to serve.
The WORST proctor company
The WORST proctor company! Taking a proctored exam / certification is never an enjoyable experience, but these guys are a joke. The amount of checks they ask for is insane..four corners of your room, each wall, top of desk, under desk, under mouse, under mouse pad, behind monitor, around PC tower, floor all around desk, under your chair, under each specific arm of your chair, in your ears, wrists, behind your ears, empty out your pockets including any in the back of your trousers, .. the list goes on! Tech is slow, proctors are useless, and you can fully expect to go through the above process more than once. Avoid and hope they go out of business.
An intern made this website in half an afternoon
How can a website fail at everything it needs to be considered a well-functioning website? Ask the makers of Prometric. This one website made me curse the computer age and wish for a more civilized time when we relied on passenger pigeons for information. A pile of stone tablets would be an easier and more efficient way to store data than this. I've never made a website before, but I think if I watched a half hour youtube video I could still create something eons better than this.
PROMETRIC, a monument to bureaucracy and failure
I only gave them one star because there is no "zero" stars. There's nothing starry about the monument to bureaucracy and failure called "Prometric". The only reason this company has stayed in business is because of the laziness and ignorance of contract signers in the Government. Over 2 hours to make a reservation and payment for a written test? Getting hung up multiple times by "customer dis-service?Disorganized and incomplete information on their website, redirecting to broken or outdated links? Taking more than 1 hour to get somebody on the phone for registration and payment for a test?
Years ago, it permeated through the community that executives from a South American Country inside Prometric were manipulating the process to favor candidates from their own country. Still, they continued to hold public contracts worth many millions of dollars and collected exaggeratedly high fees from applicants. I concluded their consecutive modality testing was rigged so the applicant had to test, and retest again because... each time we test, well, we pay, right? As a result, today the Los Angeles County Superior Court is short of qualified interpreters even offering to pay for the testing at Prometric... because they don't know better: Prometric is the very reason why L.A. Superior Court is short of qualified interpreters.
Those of us qualified went out to work elsewhere so we didn't have to go through the nonsense of dealing with Prometric.
I would rate them a negative 1 and…
I would rate them a negative 1 and that’s too high. I got bounced around like a ball trying to talk to someone the right person. Was hung up on three times. Talked to three different people and none were technical support.
You only can do that online. I asked there hours, location, and where to file a complaint, and got we can’t give that out for security reasons. What the heck they aren’t the CIA. Absolute absurd. I think they’re using offshore reps who do not know IT.
She suggested I get a new computer when they couldn’t help me download their app for the LSAT exam. Told me also to call my sponsor. LSAC. Like they could help. This was the worst experience calling in to customer relations. Daniela C. wasted over an hour of my time.
She couldn’t even elevate my issue. She just gave me a ticket number like calling back or using their chat would help. They also of course can’t call you back once they hang up on you. They need some competition to put them out of business.
I’m going to blast them in every review site online.
Terrible
Terrible. The system frozed my computer and glitched during my test, when I was 95% done.
after 2 hours taking with different technicians and several attempts to get back in, I was not able to go back in.
Lost the whole day and was not able to accomplish anything.
Not even mentioned that I had to do the “security reviews” several times before the test because at each time something was missing according to the pro-proctor, any new person I got had a different complaint about my workspace and made me do some ridiculous checks.
Cowards who won't schedule for a valid…
Cowards who won't schedule for a valid NTS and won't answer complaints.
UNPROFESSIONAL STAFF, OLD EQUIPMENT
Only one bathroom so always a line that takes up time to wait, the staff is horrible and rude, especially one hispanic woman (I won't share name, but she works at Diamond Bar location as well). She was literally speaking loudly with another staff and cursing about something personal while people were testing.
Equipment is glitchy, slow and freezes which makes an already stressful experience so much worse! Lastly, many people come take tests here for different things so it's super distracting when they are fumbling with papers, binders and calculators for their tests which allow this while I was trying to read long paragraphs and concentrate for my test. I think Prometrics should NOT be used as a vendor considering all the horrible experiences have reported over years now
I wish I had researched this company prior to signing up
I wish I had researched this company before deciding to do a remotely proctored certification exam, but I never would have expected that ASQ would contract for services with such a horrendous provider.
The amount of information provided prior to exam day was wholly inadequate to explain the many limitations of their application. It clearly hasn't been tested on newer builds of Windows. You can't even progress to a system test unless the application has successfully installed, and there is nothing to indicate that it hasn't installed properly until you go to use it. On exam day it just loaded endlessly. I rebooted, uninstalled and installed again, called ASQ and obtained a number for Prometric. Their tech support di not resolve anything, so I grabbed one of my older laptops and successfully installed the application, only to learn that their chat freezes if you're using a touchscreen laptop (per the proctor), so I was forced to log out (i.e., start all over) and disable the touchscreen. After doing so, logging back in, going through the ridiculous examination of the entire room contents, including under the lamp and the ID I just placed on the desk, for a second time, I was told that the screen lock needed to be on to prevent screen rotation as that had disabled the chat 'feature' once again. As this setting was grayed out (not available to change), this would have involved locating and disabling the correct driver. As I'd already spent well over two hours trying to get their crappy application to work by downgrading and disabling common laptop tech, I decided it was time to get ASQ involved. Seems the American Society for Quality should practice what it preaches when it comes to selecting service providers.
Horrible Customer support and experience
The worst customer support I have ever experienced. I have use many proctored softwares in the past to no issues. I took off a day of work for an remote exam through prometric and after 3 hours of customer support phone calls I was told the only option was they could reschedule a week later due to an Issue on THEIR end. disgusting and unacceptable dont see why any organization would use this software.
One of the WORST experiences ever
One of the WORST experiences ever. I had to change desktops/laptops 4 different times because some of my devices were “prohibited”.
They absolutely nitpick every single step of the way.
I spoke to many people because I had to change devices so many times and every single one had extremely thick accents. Not just accented English. It literally sounded like they were speaking a completely different language at times.
Because I couldn’t understand them, apparently I “violated one the rules.” that violation was literally just me getting water on my break. The lady in the beginning told me that as long as I stay in the frame of the camera I can do that. Then on my break, they assigned me a security agent who told me that I in fact it wasn’t allowed to do that and they’re forfeiting my exam and reporting me to the test sponsor.
When I tried to clarify the situation, they were very disrespectful and tried to rush me off the call.
Hopefully other people have better experiences, but if anyone is looking at this, I absolutely would NOT recommend testing remote with prometric.
I would rate lower if I could. Horrible experience
I would rate lower if I could. Took 4 attempts to make my home office "acceptable" to their testing. Each proctor came up with new things to complain about. First one was rude. All were barely intelligile with their accents and sound system. Nothing like being made to feel like a criminal in your own home. As a professional, this was unacceptable. All proctors are overseas, heavy thick french accents, and a couple were downright rude. No wonder they don't want you recording, because they don't want to let out to the world how horrible their customer service is. Yes, I passed, but the 1 hour it took to clear their "proctor security" was outrageous. Each time I had to log in and out. When it was all done, their invasive software screwed up my monitors on my computer which took another 30 minutes to resolve. Find any other testing center other than these people.
If I could give minus 10 I would
If I could give minus 10 I would. This company is based overseas and I a disgrace. On two separate remote exams I was cut off by them, not my connection. I am fighting to have 2 x £105 refunded by them. The staff are rude.
A word of advice do not sit a remote exam with them. Go to an approved test centre as it's far less hassle.
Prometric are a shambles of a company.
My recent experience with Prometric was…
My recent experience with Prometric was extremely disappointing. The entire process lacked clarity and basic communication. There was minimal information provided before the exam, making it difficult to feel adequately prepared for the logistics of the test day.
Support was virtually nonexistent—any attempt to seek clarification or help was met with generic responses or unhelpful directions. To make matters worse, there was no follow-up or courtesy email after the exam to confirm that it had even taken place. For an organization that handles high-stakes testing, the lack of professionalism and support is unacceptable.
I expected a much higher standard of service and communication, and unfortunately, Prometric did not deliver.
