Our house purchase completed successfully, and we appreciated the help of the team handling exchange and completion.

As a first-time buyer, I would have appreciated clearer guidance at the beginning. I instructed Oliver & Co on 26 May, but it was not until 23 June—28 calendar days later—that I checked the portal and raised the missing memorandum of sale myself. I accept that I had not initially provided the estate agent with my solicitor’s details. However, during those 28 days, the firm had not asked me to arrange the memorandum or explained that its absence was preventing progress. This only became clear after I asked for an update.

Communication during the wider process was also disappointing. We repeatedly had to chase for updates, some emails went unanswered, and my request for a callback was not followed up. It was often difficult to get a clear explanation of what remained outstanding or the expected timescale. At times, communication was so slow that I ended up resolving some matters directly with the seller, with the estate agent’s help.

Although we were allocated a named conveyancer, we dealt with many different members of staff. In practice, I often felt there was no consistent person taking overall responsibility for our case and making sure outstanding matters were followed up.

A witnessing error in our mortgage deed was only brought to our attention on 7 September, more than a month after we had sent it, following my requests for them to check that our original signed documents had been received. We then had to re-sign the deed, arrange fresh witnessing and return the corrected original by post, adding further time to the process. I would have expected such an important document to be checked promptly after receipt.

I also supplied our Level 3 Building Survey and asked them to review the legal matters it raised. They said they would review Section 9 and responded to individual questions, but I did not receive clear confirmation of the outcome of that review or whether every point in that section had been addressed.

The requirement to arrange the mortgage direct debit was brought to our attention very late in the process, adding stress.

They also proposed Building Regulations indemnity insurance, but when I called to question its suitability, they confirmed that the first policy was unsuitable for our case. They then offered an alternative, but I did not consider that adequate either, as its exclusions still left key concerns from our survey unaddressed. I ultimately declined both options. I would have expected the proposed cover to be assessed against our particular circumstances and its limitations clearly explained before it was offered. Having to identify and question these issues myself added to my frustration.

We are pleased with the eventual outcome, but I believe our purchase could have progressed much faster with better communication and more proactive follow-up. Clearer guidance and a consistent point of contact would also have made the experience considerably less stressful.

I had my personal injury claim dealt with by Oliver &co the claim process seemed very long winded at the beginning but maybe that was down to a staff issue. Later on my case was took care of by Kathryn Bull and everything just seemed to get on track straight away and was a consistent one step after another. Kathryn kept me up to date all the way through the process and even if there wasn’t an update to give she still made contact to confirm where the case was up to and what was being done in the background. Kathryn pushed the case through to the very end and brought it to a very satisfied closure.

Chris, Jake, Cain, and Alistair at Oliver & Co made the process of selling my parents house very straightforward. They kept us up to date at all times via the app which was easy to use and we could see where the buyers & us as sellers were up to in the process. A smooth conveyancing process.

Having been through the process of selling a few houses, this was by far the least stressful. The team at Oliver & Co were on hand to assist when queries arose and pushed our conveyancing process along so that we enjoyed a quick sale with minimum fuss. A combination of email and app communication kept us informed on next steps throughout, so overall very happy with the service.

I rarely leave a negative review. This is my genuine, honest opinion after an extremely unpleasant, prolonged experience with this firm over a property matter and how they handled my complaint. The matter remains unresolved.

Edit: The company's response below claims it operates in line with its complaints policy. I received a letter dated 9th of July 2026, and on July 11th 2026 I sent a detailed request for review, which they have since ignored. This is despite their policy stating that they will respond to a request for review within 14 days.

The underlying issue with my property still hasn't been resolved and has been ongoing for well over a year.
