Great Experience

I stared my journey with Nordbariatric clinic in August 2023. Here I made my very first enquiry and filled out my medical questionnaire. From the very start I got a good feeling about Nordbariatric. The medical form looked for what I felt was a good detailed level of information that would be required to make an informed decision. I was contacted by my rep Rúta who little did I know at the time was going to be a major support for me along my journey. Rúta provided me with all the necessary information at the time. There was never any pressure and no mention of money. I had contacted other clinics before Nordbariatric and the medical questions were very basic and I was immediately told how I could pay.

It took a while for me to make a decision, as like alot of people I was going to give dieting one more try.
April 2024 I finally made my decision that this was what I wanted and once again I contacted the clinic. Again I filled out another medical questionnaire as some time had passed since my last one was completed.
All through this process Rúta kept in touch and kept me up to date. I was approved for surgery (this was based on the information I had provided on the medical questionnaire) and I was booked in for the 4th of July 2024.
Again Rúta helped me with accommodation and getting me ready for my trip.
Payment was an easy process I paid my deposit and closer to the time I paid the balance. I did this by bank transfer.
Once I arrived in Kaunas I was collected by the Transport team who for every trip I needed were there.

I had my pre ops on July 3rd and I was all set for my Surgery July 4th.
However my pre op showed that my A1c was not controlled and as a result surgery was not going to be safe as the risk of complications after surgery while healing would be too great. I have type 2 diabetes which I considered to be controlled but looking back I had been ignoring it for a long time and it was not controlled. My advice to anyone going for this surgery would be to have your full pre op bloods done and sent to Nordbariatric before your surgery. As this is the only way to see if there is something going on. I was quite upset and disappointed, however my surgeon Dr. Almantas Maleckas took the time to sit down with me and explain everything to me. He explained what I needed to do when I went back home to get my A1c under control.

All the staff were very kind and caring to me I stayed the night in the hospital in a private room, where I made arrangements to travel home the following day. Again the transportation team were on hand to take me to the airport with very little notice.
Once I returned home I worked closely with my diabetic team here and with a little hard work I got my A1c under control and into an acceptable level. I kept in touch with the team at Nordbariatric all the time. I was tested for a condition known as Cushing's disease which again delayed my return to Nordbariatric once again. I had a hospital stay an MRI and a CT all to rule out cushings disease which they did. All of my results and discharge notes were forwarded to Nordbariatric again to be reviewed. Safety has been the most important thing all along through this whole process.
Eventually in January 2025 I was able to rebook my surgery for March 28th.
This time I kept the clinic up to date and had my full bloods done and emailed them to the clinic which were approved for surgery.
Rúta again was great and helped book accommodation again and provided me with all pre surgery information that I needed. I think during the whole process there have been over 200 emails between us and she always came back quickly with a reply or an update nothing was ever too much and if she did not have the answer she went to the people who did.

This time my travel to Kaunas was much smoother I had my pre ops and met Dr. Almantas Maleckas again. We chatted again and all aspects of the surgery and recovery were discussed and I was given an opportunity to ask any questions. I also met with the anesthesiologist and what would happen before surgery was discussed.
The morning of the surgery I was collected from my hotel and brought to the clinic. I was booked in and taken to my room I met the team that would look after me and again everything that was going to happen was explained to me again and I was able to ask questions if I had any. I woke after surgery there was very little discomfort and I was taken care of by a team of great nurses.
All meds that I was given were explained to me and why I was getting them was explained.
I was discharged on 30th of March. I felt well maybe just a little tired. My experience with Nordbariatric was great.

All staff that I met were friendly, professional and willing to help nothing was a problem. Communication was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble. I felt safe at all times and the clinic was so clean. I could not fault any aspect of my care.

They tried to fraudulently flag my review as not somebody having ever spoken to the centre while we were literally emailing back and forth - they have likely done this for several other bad reviews hence the high rating while their other centre has several 1 star reviews. Dr Maleckas is exceptional but the centre treated my partner like absolute dirt, refused to help while he was there & sent him away as his transport had arrived rather than giving him support with bowel issues post surgery - lied and claimed they contacted the surgeon at this time only for the surgeon to inform us he was never contacted once we returned to UK, gave zero post op care whatsoever which led to my partner being advised to urgently go to A&E in the UK for the post op treatment he was due to receive at the centre - with the surgeon commenting his own frustration that the centre never informed him. How they deal with any issues is horrific, if you are of a different race or colour, I can only hope they don’t treat you with the disdain they treated my partner with. Being asked if he was stupid when asking how to take certain medications, being left at the airport on arrival for over an hour while other patients prioritized, being dropped off 2 days after stomach surgery in the middle of the town centre rather than at his hotel to walk home 15+ minutes.

From the initial enquiry through to surgery and post operative this company has been amazing.

If you are considering surgery this is the clinic to go to.

Informative, caring and responsive there is not a part of the service that I could fault.
You are in safe hands.

I decided to have my hernia repair done at the clinic as the nhs in England was a complete waste of time and would have been at least 2026 before it was done (over 18 months wait) Nord were brilliant from the start giving me all the information I needed and even helped with my application for s2 funding to help with the cost which came from the nhs about 1/3 of the cost. When you arrive in Lithuania it is like clockwork being picked up and taken to the clinic everything is so smooth. The doctor there was so great putting me at ease and the surgery went really well. The care staff looking after me were great also and all of the drivers were prompt and friendly. Don’t hesitate to use this clinic they were brilliant.

Would just like to share my experience that I had with Nordbariatric clinic, hoping it will help others who are concerned and wishing to take the leap.

I had been in pain for some time now with gallstones. Having been to see my GP here in the UK and been told there is a waiting list of over 2 years to get my gallbladder removed. I couldn’t wait that long so I looked at private care here in the UK but the cost of this was between £5-7K which I couldn’t afford.

I then looked at getting it done abroad and after a long time doing some research, I came across Nordclinic in Lithuania which had fantastic reviews and the cost was half of what it would be in the UK. I also applied for European S2 funding through the NHS which paid for more than half the cost of the surgery. To my amazement the funding was grated by the NHS (Wales) mainly due to the huge backlog they have.

I was nervous about making contact but I needn’t had worried. I sent an email about my requirement and was emailed back by Julija who was wonderful and sent me so much detail about the cost, procedure as well as accommodation whilst in Lithuania.

I took the plunge and booked the surgery.
I flew to Kaunas with my wife and was met by a Nordclinc representative who took us straight to the hotel where we were staying. I was still nervous and even said to the wife whilst in the back of the taxi ‘What the hell are we doing in a foreign country getting treatment’ I did have my doubts.

The taxi then picked my up the next day and took me to the clinic to get pre-opp checks done. I was not the only one there, there were several other patients from the UK and Ireland having different treatment (Its such a shame that our own country has let us down and that we have to go away for treatment!).
Once the pre-opp checks were done I was taken back to the hotel.

In regards to accommodation you can choose whether you want to stay in a hotel or an apartment which is paid for by you. I would say that its personal choice, the apartments are self-catering but some distance from the city centre or choose a hotel which is in the city centre and walking distance of all the amenities.

Well, I went for my surgery, had my own private room which was spotless and all the nurses looking after me. My surgeon was Dr Albertas Dauksa who was amazing and explained everything to me and reassured me about the surgery I was about to have.

The surgery went well and I stayed the night in the hospital, again looked after by the nurses. I went back the hotel the following day to recover (They recommend at least 5 days before flying home). After day 3 I was again picked up and taken to the clinic for a check-up with Dr Dauska and had an ultrasound to see if there was any bile leakage and all was ok.

I then flew back to the UK a couple of days later.
I would highly recommend anyone who’s thinking of going to get surgery to get it done at Nordbariatric Clinic they are fantastic. Was I nervous? Yes, did I just want to come home? Yes would I do it again? Yes.

After 2 weeks of being home, I received a further email from Julija just to check how my recovery was going which I Thought was nice. To my surprise I also received a full report on my gallbladder which had been taken away for testing and showed me how bad my gallbladder really was!

When I mentioned to family and friends that I was going to Lithuania for surgery especially under general anaesthetic, they were all a little worried for me as I was. But having been and had it done, I received better treatment and care than I could ever imagined.

Lithuania is a beautiful and spotless country and would love to return for a holiday (pain free now!) Thank you, Nordbariatric Clinic, :-)

I would like to preface this by saying that Dr Maleckas was & has been outstanding throughout - if you are looking for top quality surgeons you absolutely will find them here. This review is more around other circumstances with the practice which were awful. Surgeons & nurses as stated are exceptional and if this was just a review of them it would be 10/5 stars.

Sadly however there is more to it than just this and the centre fell so far short of this in these areas for myself, which is a shame when so many other patients we spoke to received polar opposite treatment by logistics. The logistics team & the communication between Nord & their transport team is disgraceful. On our arrival for ‘safe and fast transportation’ we were left stranded at the airport for over an hour despite being told by the driver if a delayed passenger did not arrive we would be leaving in 15minutes, leaving us with dead phones in a foreign airport for over an hour missing a nights paid stay at the hotel we were told to arrive for this evening. The driver refused to take us to our hotel 15 minutes away as they did not want the passengers whos flights had been delayed by well over 2 hours at this point to wait 20-30 mins at the airport while they returned from dropping us off - they had no issue however making us wait an hour twenty minutes at the airport. We were not advised of in any form prior to arrival and have no issue sharing whatsoever - this however is completely unacceptable. The late arriving passengers could then leave the airport immediately but we are stranded despite our hotel being 15 minutes away.

Constant appointments were subsequently missed as the teams promise you transport but then don’t tell the transport team or communicate amongst each other, logistics are very rude and will just ignore any promises made. On a return from a check up with nurses, our transport was due to stop at a store for me to collect medication on the way home to the hotel - the driver confirmed this & then dropped me off a 15 minute walk from the store two days after surgery, then drove off as soon as I got out, leaving me to walk home with my medications & recommended foods 2 days after stomach surgery - strictly against the surgeons advice.

At this point the amazing work the surgeons & nurses have done who have been incredible has been completely soured as there was no care shown whatsoever for any of the other crucial things that are part of the surgery & recovery. If you are travelling from abroad be very warned. For example, they made me an appointment at the clinic & promised transportation - then didn’t tell the logistics team who refused transport on the day & also hadn’t provided me with any address at all - leaving me no way of attending my follow up which was an appointment to address a lack of bowel movement over a period of 5 days, something the surgeon considered crucial, phone lines turned off and no means of contacting the centre, during an ordinary working day, all day.

I advised reception at the centre of this problem but their bigger priority was telling me my transport was downstairs & I had to leave, rather than address a potentially serious health complication of a patient. I then had to visit A&E directly on Dr Maleckas advice after being told to return home to UK by the nurses, the surgeon also confirmed that they never even communicated to him that I had struggled with this all week and he was disappointed at this.

Had to receive post op treatment at A&E in the UK that all of the doctors here stated extremely clearly should have been taken care of at the centre before I was advised to fly home.

Made the decision to have surgery with this clinic and it was the best decision I have made. From the very start the communication from the clinic was clear, precise and informative. I had great peace of mind knowing I was going to be well looked after in Lithuania by the logistics team. From the moment I landed in Kaunas there was someone there to meet me, the staff and nurses in the clinic for my pre and post operative care were incredible and I could not have asked for better service. I would highly recommend nord clinic

I had my gallbladder removed recently at the Nord clinic. All I can say that everything was first class. From the pick up at the airport, all the assisted trips to and from hotel to clinic. The actual service at the clinic was outstanding, the overnight stay at the clinic after surgery was needed, the same surgery in the UK, there is no over night stay at the hospital, you have to leave after the surgery. The cost of the surgery was a big saving from the prices in the UK. I am recovering well 2 weeks after surgery and I can only recommend the Nord clinic to anyone that wants a great service by a great team.

From the first port of email to Nords my rep Rūta provided me with all the information I needed. She was very pleasant and would always respond promptly if I needed to ask any questions etc. I can 100% say I would recommend Nords to anybody considering Bariatric surgery abroad. I had my surgery on the 29th January and from when I arrived in Kaunas the logistics team that collected us and everytime for appointments etc they were all so nice and friendly. The clinic is absolutely spotless and all the staff are so friendly. I met the surgeon Dr Almantas Maleckas for my consultation and he was very nice, he spoke to me all about the surgery and I felt more at ease after meeting him as I was very nervous this was my first ever operation. I was so happy to have him as my surgeon he was superb. The nurses are all lovely and very attentive to anything you need. I stayed 2 nights in the clinic and felt at ease leaving as I had felt so well. To anybody on the fence about considering booking definitely go ahead and book. I was so scared beforehand and I don’t know why to be honest. I am down at total of 2 stone 3lbs now including liver reduction diet and already feel more healthier and have had no regrets. Highly recommend Nords. Thank you all for your kind services.

Fro. The moment I arrived in Lithuania I was extremely well taken care of. The transport was well arranged and the clinic itself was perfect. I am now 8 months post-op and have never felt better, I'm already 60kg down and 2-3 dress sizes down. It was a tough road, I won't lie. Changing your relationship with food is a big process, mentally and physically, but in my case it was well worth that for a healthier, happier life.

Dr. Maleckas was fantastic. He answered and questions I had, and put my mind at rest over all concerns. I had an appointment back home for a abdominal MRI and the doctor said he hadn't ever seen such clean work, especially the incisions, which have pretty much faded to nothing.

My one piece of advise to anyone considering going is when your there take full advantage of the expertise and knowledge at hand, before you leave consult with your nurse about ongoing wound care and take time with the dietician to understand the diet.

Couldn't recommend Nords enough from the drivers to the nurses to the doctor just so friendly and putting you at ease. From first, contact to booking to payment was all just so simple and straightforward. Just a very well run efficient clean service

After lots of research I decided on Nords for my gastric sleeve and I am very glad I did.
The care I received was excellent from start to finish. The clinic is absolutely prisitine and all the staff very professional and extremely skilled. I never once felt rushed and like I was on a conveyer belt of patients. All the nurses were amazing and my surgeon dr Malckeas came to see me every day I spent in the clinic which I couldn’t believe, I really felt in the very best hands. As a woman travelling alone for surgery I was very nervous about the whole but honestly from the moment I landed in Kaunas I felt safe and comfortable. I would recommend Nords to anyone considering going abroad for surgery.

I had an inguinal hernia repaired at Nordclinic by keyhole surgery (laparoscopy) on 4th February 2025. The surgeon, Prof Dr Albertas Dauksa, is a kind and wonderful surgeon and he is my new hero! I have no memory of being adminstered with the anaesthetic but it was fabulously done. One moment I was looking with interest at the theatre ceiling and the next moment I was awakening, pain free and cosy in my bed with a friendly nurse bringing me a lovely dinner. I was really pleased to discover that Prof Dauksa also went out of his way to check on my previous hernia repair of 17 years ago (on the other side) and reported that it was looking great. Finally, three days after surgery, he gave the new repair an ultrasonic check up and I was given a 'medical report' with full details of the procedure that he had carried out. I can only add that the logistics operation is super-impressive with friendly drivers taking care of all transport between airport, hotel and clinic. I had many chats with other patients and everyone agreed that the clinic, its medical staff and its logistics team are the best. Finally I'm happy to add that got in a bit of tourism in Kaunas and had a great train trip to Vilnius.

Had a bariatric surgery, all went well. Well organized clinic and staff, good facilities. I strongly recommend.

From first contact with Julija , to the final drop off at the airport, the whole process was fantastic. They were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. There is no need to worry if things go abit wrong. A few days after my operation , my blood work should up an infection. They were on top of it immediately. Got bloods done twice a day until I left, as well as a course of antibiotics.
Excellent service can’t fault it. I recommend it to anyone.

I have to say from onset I was extremely pleased with communication from Julija Pre and Post surgery, l was never left in any doubt when l had doubts.
Surgeon did an amazing job and couldn't be happier with nurses, surgical team or the drivers from Logistics all 5*.
The reason l gave 4* overall was l felt the nutrion portion was rushed and poorly done, yes a lot of paperwork but l expected more contact with nutritionist. When l made a complaint that l had no contact details for her and when given an email it took 4 or 5 days to respond, and l feel the response was only that l complained. Areas to improve, better scheduled nutritionist appointments (so patients know she is coming and can prepare), and contact details for nutritionist should be a given.
Also as much as l think the logistics drivers were amazing not one of them ever introduced themself.
In short 100% would l recommend Nord and l will use them again for plastic surgery

I went to the Nordbariatric clinic in December 2024 for a gastric sleeve procedure and I was absolutely delighted by the quality of care and attention I received. I first reached out to Nordbariatric back in June to inquire about my candidacy for bariatric surgery. All responses were received within a matter of days and I was given plenty of information routinely to inform my decision and then further inform me of my journey through their clinic. I received support in planning my travel and plenty of information of my pre-surgical requirements including a consultation with the lead surgeon to agree on what my target procedure would be. From the moment I landed in Lithuania, a member of their logistics team was already waiting for me at the airport and took me straight to the clinic for pre-operative tests. An extremely pleasant, exquisitely clean, and inviting environment where I very quickly had my tests done and was asked to sign paper work that I had already been given in advance via e-mail to review to expedite asking any questions. The procedure went off without a hitch, and every clinician I interacted with from nurses, to physiotherapist, to anesthetist, to dietation and the surgeon himself was top notch and I was provided with clear instructions and handed supporting material. The stay in the apartments was also perfect for a place to recover. What can I say? This was everything I wanted and more. Incredible value for your money.

I thoroughly recommend Nordbariatrics. My experience has been an excellent one from the very first contact and interactions with Ruta, through the inpatient experience and beyond. Professor Maleckas is an experienced professional, an expert surgeon and a very kind and approachable doctor. I felt l was in very safe hands. The nursing, logistics and admin teams were all very kind and the clinic was spotless and well appointed. As a healthcare professional myself with an eye for clinical detail and safety when it comes to healthcare and l can confirm Nordbariatrics is an excellent, safe choice that is comparable with any private bariatric service in the UK.

I booked my gastic bypass surgery back in June and am now two weeks post op. Dealing with Julija and Professor Maleckas in advance was quick and simple over email and WhatsApp. The reviews on this site and the Facebook Group made me sure I was choosing the right people. And I wasn't disappointed. Everything from the airport and local transfers, the accommodation, the in-patient experience and aftercare has been excellent. And, of course, it was around half the price I'd have pay in the UK! Highly recommended.
