I saw a trail camera I'd been looking for on the website and ordered it. I already had one of the cameras so I didn't (silly me) double check if it was the exact same one although it seemed to be. I had compatibility issues with the plug in screen from my old camera so emailed NHBS.
I was contacted very quickly by Daniel the Product and Purchasing Technical Advisor. I have to say this is up there with the best service I have ever received, he literally jumped through hoops to try and fix the issue. Sadly he was unable to do that, so he arranged for the camera to be sent back free and the refund came almost immediately.
I can't fault how great their support service is and how quickly I got responses to my emails. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again.

My hand lens that I purchased in summer 2025 was faulty and fell to pieces on trying to fix it. I contacted the company to request a replacement as it was under warranty (and faulty!)
I was sent a postage label to return it FOC. About a week or two later I received an email to say it was found to be faulty (of course) and offered an alternative or refund. I chose a replacement as I loved the lens, and it was sent to me super quick with postage security information.
I think this company have really taken note of the less postive reviews and made some changes to how they work.
My experience was customer and resolution focused.
I must also add that the team I met at Global Bird Fair were informative, engaging and energetic.
RE: low score reviews… It’s important to remember that people are much more likely to leave a negative review than a positive review. Results are often very skewed because of this. Especially if the company doesn’t have a general practice to request that customers review them when they’ve had a positive experience. I hope more NHBS customers can leave positive reviews - to show future NHBS consumers that the vast majority of their shoppers are happy with their customer service.

NHBS's service can only be described as outstanding. I tried to purchase a Peregrine falcon nest box, they used to stock. However their supplier had gone into liquidation. Rather than leave it at that, Laura tried to source an alternative for me. When this was not possible she tracked down some plans to make one for me. There service was way beyond the call of duty.

Bought around 300 euro of equipment i needed for a job on the 29th of july. After purchase I received no delivery date. I had paid for express shipping which should of had the package delivered in 2-6 working days. It had been 8 days so I contacted them. They told me the order had not even left because a book I bought was out of stock despite being listed as in stock on their website. They told me they had delayed my order till mid September because of that and never thought to contact me and tell me this or refund my express shipping. How is it express shipping if you hold my order for almost 2 months? I told them to remove the book and send on the order as I needed it for work urgently. Order was delivered to the wrong address which i had to solve then when I finally got my package on the 14th of august it had the wrong equipment inside. They still have not come to collect the wrong package or refunded me for their endless mistakes and now they are trying to get me to figure out getting their package back to them.
Absolutley terrible experience awful customer service and service in general. Wouldn't advise anybody use their site you can find everything they have elsewhere for the same prices and far more efficient service.
I recently ordered a book from NHBS.com. The estimated delivery on the book was 2-3 weeks. After 4 weeks with no delivery and no updates I contacted customers service. They said they would send an update shortly - they never did. 6 weeks after the order was placed I had still not received any update. I wanted to like this store and wanted to order from somewhere other than Amazon but unfortunately this experience is far below par. Unfortunately I wouldn't recommend.

I have bought books from them a few times and apart from the high shipping costs aim happy with my purchases and their customer service.
Amazed at how they treat their past and good customers. There was obviously a design fault in some of their equipment sent to me, and when it emerged later on, they just refused to discuss it, sending me a refusal for refund or exchange despite my having made a very good case for at least an exchange (though if they haven't sorted out the problem, that would have been futile anyhow). Such an arrogant and peremptory attitude to customers is presumably why their Trust Pilot rating is so deservedly low.
Paid extra for next day 'express delivery' on Thursday. Item wasn't with FedEX until 5.43pm on Friday afternoon.
Item not arriving until late Monday. This is not the express service we paid extra for!

Seems to be one of those sites that do not necessarily have everything in stock that they sell on their website. I searched online for a particular bird box, they were the only ones who had it, and at a reasonable price, I ordered, but turns out they did not have it, back in stock in 6 weeks. Easy enough to cancel and get my money back but wasted my time, and lost possible future custom, why can't they give you proper stock information upfront
This company is genuine and honest,always doing what's right for its customers.This is the second good review I have had cause to write for NHBS.Well done NHBS keep up the good work.
