Great website to keep track of all the anime you've watched

Is it really that bad? Well... The reviews are an absolute garbage mess and doesn't covered up with common sense. Also imagine calling you an idiot and trash just because you had a different opinion and taste/preference. So many unresonable reviews. Full of mindless people. Completely biased. Full of elitist-weab-stinky-boo. If you want a proper review, don't go to this site. Why such a cringefest and cancer are allowed... And therefore my review. Sorry for my English.

Absolutely love this site. The only thing that is keeping if from being a five star revive, is their lack of listed manga.

TURN ON ADBLOCKER AND LEAVE IT ON! Absolute garbage community and website. The entire site is run by anime redditors, aka the most insecure/hateful people to ever exist. Don't you dare have anything negative to say about a series that the mods like. Cause they will delete your review and ban you instantly. The mods constantly delete thousands of negative reviews daily to inflate their own s****y tastes. A perfect example of why anime fans can't have nice things.

Bunch of racists or what do you call people who claims anything not made by japanese works are not anime. Seriously just dropped my trust completely with such ridiculous absurd stupidity.

One thing I realized about this site after I used it for a year is the reviewers. It's a total mess and full of peoples who hates everything in their entire life. If you want to use this site, make sure to avoid the reviews AT ALL COSTS. Just, don't believe in their words, even if there's hundreds of people agrees. They're racing to spot every little bad thing in the animes.
Me, myself trying to be optimistic about them. So I don't really care.

A great website to track new anime, find suggestions and get involved with the community. I've been using it for 5 months now with 0 issues.

Great website to make up a list of animes watched and mangas read, however it quite often goes down temporarily.

Full of gatekeeping mindless sheep who are obsessed with keeping fma brotherhood at number 1 when its actually an average anime and they will stop at nothing to try to secure this at number 1 indefinitely. And the mods are just as bad . Its like a dictatorship

Even tho there are some websites who look more Classy and Elegant but MAL definitely is the Best Among them on the basis of Features and Functions.

Aside from a subpar moderation team,

MyAnimeList has been my go-to anime database site for the past few years and I absolutely adore the UI and the community to the point that I am subscribed as a MALSupporter. Mainly did that to also get a larger slot for favorite anime.

The community is fantastic, everyone is nice and welcoming but the moderation team is not the best, they have slow response times and occasional site malfunctions. The community moderators however, are fun to chat with and are generally nice people.

I also adore the ability to customize your anime list viewing page with simple BB coding and HTML knowledge. Or simply scrap templates off publicly available ones from the community.

Overall, MAL is a great site to use for looking up or getting recommendations as well as recording down your anime however, there are probably other sites that do it better and don't require premium to make the most of it.

I know I am biased and I do not like generalizing because anime fans I saw in real life were mostly sane people without any issues what I know. But what comes to the internet is cancer. There is not so much blind elitism in mainstream Hollywood HBO or Netflix series. I confess I sometimes watched mostly older anime old about 2 decades ago but still something older and newer and often neither watched it completely. Moderators please, describe the animes by their real japanese genres rather instead of American rating (PG, G or whatever) because it is often out of place. But the people... Overanalyzing animes like adventure shounens, harems and romantic comedies but then many reviewers trashing Evangelion? That is funny, seriously. 3 stars would be fair but I do not wanna.

The first thing you must be aware of with this site is that the person/persons that decide if your reviews are posted have a liking to a certain type of anime, so there opinion is above yours. For example if you like an show/movie and give it a 10 but they believe it's a 4, your review will not be accepted, if you give it a slightly lower rating like a 9 or 8 it will be decided on the amount of other people who have given this same score (if there are many, your score will be deleted) even if you have given many great points of view to how you have come to this decision. A couple people have complained about this on there forum but have quickly been deleted or banned from posting. there are some anime that the reviews have been keep going and can be trusted on however i wouldn't read some of the reviews as they do give some spoilers and sometimes even give away the whole entire plot. my opinion if you was to use this site for a vague idea on what to watch next is stick with those rated around 6.2 - 8.3 these are usually the best ones.
any anime that is incredibly popular like Naruto, Danmachi, Konosuba, Black Clover and Kimetsu no Yaiba basically all the most popular anime in the world are grossly underrated here due to them deleting reviews because it's not what they like. anything over 9.0 i can 98% tell you it's a lie same with anything under 4.0, I hope this has help people make use of this site is you must use it. I personally use GoGoAnime.io

Used to be alright, but ever since they went down for a few months last year it's a bare-bones utility at best and a dumpster fire at its worst.

- Removed a large portion of their features over "security concerns" that were never fully elaborated on and "not wanting to encourage illicit activity" which was just code for "our sponsors told us to remove this so we did".
- Features similar sites offer for free like having more than x number of favorites or user blocks require a paid membership. Heck, it doesn't even block all of the ads despite being advertised as such, and MAL has had longstanding issues with autoplaying, auto-opening, malware-containing ads.
- Has a pretty good database, but their data entry "system" is horridly slow (takes months or even years for everything from minor edits to entire entry additions) and has an unintuitive genre system. AniDB and ANN are already better than it and most other sites are going to overtake it soon at this rate.
- The "community" is full of bots and trolls who throw temper tantrums over anime scores and constantly start flame wars in the forums, comments, and everywhere there's a text field. Decent users exist, but you can find them much easier on other sites.
- The review "system" is unhelpful, with no disliking and no requirements other than a puny character limit (might even just be 30 like in the forums) and no spam allowed. Add in the bot issues and 90% of the time reviews are going to be poorly written & completely unhelpful.
- Plenty of MAL mods want to improve the site, but can't because they have little actual power. They're just there to enforce whatever the corporate heads of MAL decide, and they rarely do anything that doesn't either directly tie into their profits or is a legal requirement.

tl;dr Just use AniDB, AniList, or any other anime list site. It's hard to be worse than MAL.

This site is good, I'm OK using it but one big problem.... you are limited to show your favorite animes (limited up to 10 only), that's kinda dumb tbh, Idk why you have to become such so called "MAL Supporter" to have more favorite anime slots, jeez....
