Spammers. Have now filtered 'Merrehill' out of my email headers to block these irritants. And for those thinking of buying their email list or using their services: they sent many spam emails to non-existent email addresses which were picked up by our server email filters, so you're wasting your money in more ways than one.

This company sold my details to businesses that started spamming my personal email with my name included in the address. This is against the law. The email address is not published anywhere and it includes my name.

I am reporting Merrehill and the offending companies to the ICO. If you are a business wanting to send unsolicited emails, then avoid this company and they do not have proper controls in place to validate the authenticity of their database.

I did get a reply from Merrrehill saying they were removing my domain name from their database. But I have sent them a subject access request to find out who leaked my email address to them. I suggest everyone who gets spammed by this shower does the same and report them.

Edit. Further to Merrehill's reply, the Information Commissioner's Office say this:

"If the work email address belongs to a sole trader or unincorporated partnership, your work email address is treated the same as your home email address, and you can follow the advice above."

I am a sole trader. So, what does the ICO say "above"?

"Spam emails are emails sent to you without your knowledge or consent, which often contain marketing. It is email that you don’t want and didn’t ask for, and its content can cause annoyance, embarrassment and even distress...

The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR) cover the sending of marketing emails. This legislation says that organisations must only send marketing emails to individuals if they have agreed to receive them, except where there is a clearly defined customer relationship."

None of the clientss that tell me that you have provided them with my personal data (confirmed through subject access requests) have any defined customer relationship with me. Neither have I with you.

Furthermore, I have not consented to you handling my personal data, and my name on my email address makes it my personal data.Therefore, you are probably in breach of the General Data Protection Regulations too.

If this has damaged your business's reputation, then instead of posting snidy, sarcastic replies, you could try apologising and improving your business practices.

Looking at the other reviews, I am not the only one who is annoyed with you and your dreadful business model. I have, of course, also reported you to the ICO along with your clients who are spamming me. I recommend anyone else who starts being spammed by businesses that have had their email address passed on by Merrehill do the same.

Excellent first class service

Atrocious spammer.

Having read many of the poor reviews and Merrehill's responses, I have now changed this review twice.

In the last week, I have started getting irrelevant emails that go straight to spam.

When I move them from spam and open them, they all link back to Merrehill.

I have issued an SAR and am waiting for a response, which I suspect I won't get. It's now been over 24 hours and I've not had so much as an acknowledgement or 'we'll get back to you'.

I am now reporting every email to the ICO.

To give more context, I've read the combative way Merrehill responds to people like me complaining about receiving lots of unsolicited emails. Apparently, Merrehill feels disgruntled that these reviews are not about their service and they feel they cause reputational damage.

Why should I not promote on here that you've sent an email offering business healthcare policies to me that are unsolicited and irrelevant - given I have extensive complex health needs that are pre-existing conditions that will not be covered?

Or vehicle leasing opportunities when I am a sole trader.

Or business management courses, when I'm 67 and semi-retired, having been appointed to a Board at the age of 29 and ran my own business for about 20 years?

The point of these reviews is to precisely highlight the untargeted, unsolicited, unfiltered, unhelpful, scatter-gun nature of what you are doing.

Frankly, I don't care what Merrehill thinks of me putting this on a public review site.

Asking me to opt-in would have more integrity.

I suspect I've fallen foul of a tick box on a form. That's such a cheap way to get leads. And I'm still waiting for you to tell me how you got my details.

Merrehill states clearly that they are running a legitimate business. From the emails I've received in a very short period of time, none of which are relevant, I don't see how this serves their clients well.

To me the company lacks morality. Yes, it is legal, GDPR compliant, PECR compliant ... but that doesn't make it right if the emails sent have no relevance to the receiver.

Every email I get is being sent back to the DPO email address at Merrehill ... and so far I've not had one single reply. Not one.

Thank you for your response. I have two ultimate aims. You have satisfied one. As per my SAR to your DPO, I want to know the source of your acquiring my data. I want to know what box I didn't tick that provided you with the opportunity to send me irrelevant emails. And yes, I will then take this up with that source.
