Both enquiring on the phone and visiting your showroom was first class. Staff member very helpful, patient and I came away very happy. I’m coming back in April with my grown up children as I want to show them how great it is and hopefully will buy something really lovely!

Meine Feundin hat für mehr als 400 EUR Lampen und Ersatzflaschen bei der Firma Mathmos bestellt. Die Ware kam in mehreren Paketen. Ein Paket war äußerlich zwar völlig unbeschädigt, allerdings alle darin befindlichen 4 Flaschen waren offensichtlich kopfüber mit dem Paket aufgeschlagen, hatten so deutliche Spuren in der inneren Verpackung hinterlassen und alle 4 Blechschraubverschlüsse weisen Dellen auf. Wir nahmen Kontakt auf mit Mathmos. Die dort zuständige Dame musste zunächst einen ganzen Tag nachdenken und schrieb am darauffolgenden Tag, es würde sich hierbei um kosmetische Mängel halten, diese hätten keinen Einfluss auf die Funktion und wären ja auch unter der Kappe verborgen. Wie Bitte? Wenn Mathmos nicht in der Lage ist, einwandfreie Ware an den Kunden zu liefern, dann sollte das Unternehmen die Arbeit einstellen. Wenn es hier nicht zu einer zufriedenstellenden Lösung kommt, werden wir rechtliche Schritte gegen Mathmos einleiten.

Cressida what's going on with the lack of Customer Care Department? It's like they're in hibernation. My Rolling Stones lamp was left with a 'neighbour' by DPD, this in reality was outside my front door in the rain. As I was away when I got back instead of next door it was on show in the elements for 3 days. Rain had penetrated the shipping box, and even the product box started to disintegrate. I sent a photo on my return on the 2nd of December of the water logged box outside my front door, and asked for a replacement inner box.Not good enough, please send more photos while we wait for 20 days to respond. It's taken till today a paltry 42 days! One reply took 20 days, one reply took 9 days! Is this bad enough for a goodwill gesture? Apparently not!

I bought (well Santa bought) a lava lamp for my ten year old. So it could be used as a light light. My husband wanted me to buy some cheap made in China lamp but I wanted something that would last and he would keep forever.
Now, this lava lamp is special. The quality of the product is far superior to anything i have seen before.
I would have given them 5 stars and unfairly I have given them 4 stars because it takes a long time for it to warm up and get going.
When it does it is spectacular!
It also can't be used as a night light as it has a maximum time for it to be used and I understand why as it gets quite warm. So basically I can't really use it for what I bought it for. Having said that, my son loves it and he will have it forever.
I have contacted the company to ask a couple of questions and the have got back to me pretty quickly too.
Going to change my star rating as it was their fault I didn't read up on the item before I bought it 😉

Im shocked to see they only have 3.5 score out of 5. Ordered two candle lava lamps for out fireplace, they both look and work amazingly. It's January and we dont use the fie so no heat from that and the lamps just work and look great. We are over the moon with these and I will be ordering the retro vinal lamp, I have always loved lava lamps and have enjoyed them for years, when I found out mathmos was the original, I just had to have one of theirs and was not disappointed with the two candle ones I bought. Looking forward to buying the next one, and enjoying it with the other two.

Die Produkte sind hochwertig verarbeitet. Der Lieferservice ist blitzschnell.
Ich liebe meine Lavalampe (plus Ersatzflaschen).
Die Glühbirne hält bisher auch super, aber es wird ja eh zu jeder Bestellung eine Glühlampe zusätzlich mitgeliefert.

Second order with Mathmos and felt compelled to leave a review.

First order - Fireflow where the wrong colour was shipped, they replaced the bases without any issues however the flow on both bottles was exceptionally poor.

Second order - ordered an "in stock" lamp which has not turned up after 2 weeks, order marked as complete and dispatched.. except DPD never got the parcel, emailed with no response so called, (4 times before somebody answered) to be told that they're out of stock but will be delivered within the week. at this point i got a response to my email. i've waited till the end of the week and still no tracking updates so cancelled the order, (another 3 calls before somebody answered)

the only redeeming thing about the experience is they haven't messed me around about the refund but the overall experience is poor, the lamp is still showing as available on their site.

Produit esthétiquement décevant et service client peu orienté satisfaction.

J’ai commandé une lampe à lave Mathmos comme cadeau de Noël, en m’attendant à un produit de qualité compte tenu du positionnement premium de la marque. Malheureusement, la bouteille reçue présente de très nombreuses micro-bulles / taches visibles dans le verre, particulièrement marquées une fois la lampe allumée, ce qui dégrade fortement le rendu visuel.

La personne à qui la lampe était destinée a été très déçue à la découverte du produit, ce qui est d’autant plus regrettable pour un cadeau censé faire plaisir.

Le service client m’a indiqué que ces imperfections entraient dans leurs « tolérances de fabrication ». Soit. En revanche, aucune réelle prise en compte de l’expérience client : malgré des photos montrant clairement le problème et le contexte du cadeau, aucun échange n’a été proposé.
La seule solution avancée a été un retour à mes frais (10 €), ce qui est difficilement acceptable pour un produit de ce prix.

À réfléchir sérieusement avant d’acheter, surtout pour un cadeau

Je suis extrêmement déçue. Mon mari voulait absolument une lampe a lave de cette marque pour son anniversaire. Je me disais "A ce prix là j'espère vraiment qu'elle soit parfaite sinon je vais a Gifi en prendre une a moins de 40€ 😅"
Nous la recevons et constatons que le verre comporte plein de petits défauts visibles a l'oeil nu biensur. On prend en photo comme on peut et j'envoie au service client. Leur réponse ? Les défauts sont normaux ils travaillent avec une usine de grande Bretagne qualitative et des petites bulles d'air peuvent apparaître pendant la fabrication. Donc en fait si vous cherchez une lampe a lave allez plutôt chez Gifi ça vous coûtera moins cher puisque la qualité n'est pas au rendez vous chez Mathmos on se contente d'une lampe avec défauts pour 135€. Mon mari est bien évidemment déçu aussi.

Purchased my 2nd Mathmos Astro this week. Price increased since first purchase 5 years ago, but still worth the premium. The Astro is a large lamp at 43cm tall with a bottle volume of approx. 1.5L. Heavy-grade aluminium construction, a quality braided cable with in-line switch, and subtle Mathmos branding etched onto the bottle. Beautiful, clear liquid and rich wax colour. Flows very actively indeed after 1.5 hours on average. The double-coil in the bottom of the bottle makes for very satisfying recombination of wax blobs. Latest one I purchased even came with 2 bulbs! One should be aware of two things– the bulbs don't last long even though the lamp does. In my experience a bulb will blow after about 4-8 months of use. Maximise their life by not touching with bare fingers when installing the bulbs, hold with a tissue. The other thing is that they will not look how they look in photos on the website. I have a violet/red and a violet/orange and when in operation the lava looks the same in both due to its strong illumination! The only thing I don't like about the design is that the bottle has a lot of side-to-side/back-and-forth play in the base, i.e. it's not just a matter of inserting bottle into base and that's it– you'll have to allign it as if hanging a picture (moving it, backing up to check it's level, repeat if necessary). I'd prefer a bit more sturdiness in that regard given that the bottle weighs well over 1 kg. Definitely don't let your pets anywhere near it. Despite the heat production, it's only a 35 W bulb so these are economical to run. Just ensure not to leave on for more than 6 hours, especially in the summer as overheating will shorten the life of the liquids. Overheating is evident at a glance so isn't something that needs to be worried about (lava one in one big lump or lots of little ones). Packaged very nicely in a box (not a tube) with high quality graphics. Both of mine came with not the most perfect finish on the aluminium surfaces– a good polish from a distance but some marks up close. I haven't bothered to but would be worth going over with a suitable metal polish in the direction of the existing polishing to get a flawless finish. Overall, they're just gorgeous. Worlds apart from the typical cheaper lava lamps you can buy easily in shops.

Die Lampen sind toll. Die Glühbirnen sind absolut beschis... Kurz und knapp auf den Punkt gebracht. Seit ich die Lampe vor 2 Jahren gekauft habe, sind die Glühbirnen bereits 4 mal kaputt gegangen.... Dazu kommt dass nur die Glühbirnen von Mathmos selbst funktionieren. (Kapitalismus?) Ich habe beide Modelle an Glühbirnen welche sie anbieten ausprobiert und es sind beide ungefähr gleich kurzlebig. Ich mag die Lampen und die Flüssigkeit, die Stimmung welche sie einem Raum geben ist super. Aber alle 6 Monate wieder neue Glühbirnen kaufen zu müssen finde ich mehr als ärgerlich... Insbesondere wenn man den Preis bedenkt und den Umstand, dass diese jedesmaul aus England importiert werden müssen. Do better Mathmos!

Very accommodating staff and great show room with lots of working stock on display! Wanted to buy the lot!!!

Now, regardless of how premium a product is, sometimes things can go wrong. But it’s how the company deals with the problem is key to outstanding customer service.

I had an issue with my lamp, which I have owned and used for a full year. I emailed Mathmos customer service team and briefly explained my problem.

No problem Steve, was the pretty much instant reply. We will get some bulbs out to you in the post. I figured I would get them after Christmas at the earliest as of course delivery services are run ragged this time of year. But no, within 48 hours, I had reported my issue, agreed on a solution and received my new bulbs! Amazing service.

Mathmos have a clear understanding of quality service. Their products blow any competition out of the water, and it turns out their customer service does too!

Thank you Mathmos. I’ll be ordering another lamp within the next week to go alongside my stereo system!

Ich war am Anfang etwas skeptisch, ob ich die zwei Lavalampen wirklich bestellen soll aufgrund der ganzen negativen Bewertungen die man größtenteils liest. Am Ende habe ich mir gedacht, dass Menschen eher Bewertungen abgeben, wenn sie etwas zu meckern haben, gefällt einem etwas, genießt man einfach! Ich habe zwei Lavalampen bestellt und bin echt begeistert, genauso mein Partner! Die Lieferung ging schnell, die Qualität überzeugt!
Bezüglich der Halogenlampen habe ich auch viele Nachrichten gelesen, dass sie schnell kaputt gehen. In dem kleinen Heftchen was der Lieferung beiliegt, wird erklärt, dass man sie NIE mit den Fingern anpacken sollte, sondern immer mit einem Tuch, da sie so empfindlich sind und schnell durch das Fett an den Fingern kaputt gehen...nur als kleiner Tipp am Rande, dass es nicht zwingend was mit Mathmos zu tun hat, sondern einfach der Tatsache geschuldet ist, dass dieses Leuchtmittel einfach sehr empfindlich ist.

Was das zurückschicken angeht kann ich nichts bewerten, da bei uns zum Glück nichts zurückgeschickt werden muss!

Ich habe eine Lampe mit Flasche und eine Ersatzflasche bei Mathmos bestellt. Die Lampe mit Flasche ist in Ordnung, bei der Ersatzlampe zieht sich eine fast senkrechte, erhabene Naht durch das Acrylglas. Nachdem ich dem Kundenservice mehrere Fotos schicken musste, bis sie endlich zugegeben haben, dass dort eine sichtbare Naht ist, behaupten sie jetzt, so eine Naht sei produktionsbedingt normal und ich müsse die Flasche auf eigene Kosten zurückschicken. Eine Frechheit!

Very content with how Mathmos handled my complain. I got what i wanted very quick&friendly&fast.

Seit vielen Jahren kaufe ich meine Lavalampen nur bei Mathmos. Die Qualität ist wirklich erstklassig. Die vielen verschiedenen Farben und Modelle sind sehr schön und vielseitig.
Bei meiner zuletzt gekauften Lavalampe gingen leider das Leuchtmittel kurz nach dem Kauf kaputt. Meine Reklamations Email wurde innerhalb zwei Tagen beantwortet. Es wurden sofort neue Leuchtmittel für mich auf den Weg geschickt und sogar noch ein Ersatz dazu gelegt. Ich finde hier gibt es einen sehr guten Support.Hier kaufe ich wirklich gerne.

Noch bevor meine Bestellung überhaupt ausgeliefert wurde, erhielt ich bereits die Bitte, eine Bewertung abzugeben. Nach über drei Wochen Wartezeit ist die Lampe nun angekommen – und der Rahmen ist deutlich verbogen.

Der Versandkarton war unbeschädigt, ebenso der Innenkarton. Das lässt klar erkennen, dass der Schaden nicht während des Transports entstanden ist, sondern das Gerät bereits in diesem Zustand verpackt wurde. Besonders irritierend ist zudem, dass die Lampe vormontiert versendet wurde, obwohl dies problemlos auch separat möglich gewesen wäre. Der Eindruck drängt sich auf, dass ein bereits beschädigtes Exemplar einfach eingepackt wurde.

Für ein Produkt in dieser Preisklasse und einen Hersteller, der sich selbst als „Premium“ positioniert, ist das äußerst enttäuschend. Bei 400 € erwarte ich eine einwandfreie Qualität und eine Verpackung, die dem Produkt gerecht wird.

I ordered a lamp several weeks ago and have only received very sporadic and unclear responses from customer service. No one is replying to my recent messages anymore – neither regarding any goodwill gesture nor about when the item will actually be delivered.

At this point, I’m honestly starting to question how reliable this process is, as the communication has been completely non-transparent and leaves customers without any information. I really hope someone will get back to me soon and clarify the situation.

I just hope that at the very least, the product itself will be as good as expected once it finally arrives.
