Afternoon Tea needs an urgent refinement.
We went for an afternoon tea at the Macdonald Hotel in Frimley and we could not be more disappointed. At the website the picture of the afternoon tea is quite promissing, however it has nothing to do with reality. The amount of food for 2 was not generous at all. The menu mentioned that we could taste 6 different cakes and pastries and only 3 cakes were offered. But the worst part was the quality of the cakes: they tasted really awful and were not fresh. The scones though were very tasty and came warm to the table. A positive thing. We have been charged 25 pounds per person which is way to much for the quality of the afternoon tea. We left inhappy and we will never come back.
Awful stay at inchyra hotel
Last night my husband and I stayed for an overnight at the inchyra Hotel and it was an awful experience. Food and service was terrible. I would have thought a £35 fillet steak would have been cooked from scratch but it came reheated and drinks came half way through our meal after chasing. Bills got mixed up etc, just not the anniversary weekend we wanted!
Forrest hills Macdonald's Hotel kinlochard
Like most families over the past period it has been challenging , and the chance to get out and spend some time in quality establishments is an opportunity we decided to take . The staycation for us is something we treasure and by supporting UK businesses must be on all our minds . By booking a 2 day break at Forrest Hills with its beautiful location set in stunning surroundings with very adequate facilities we decided to go.
Rooms are well appointed Clean and tidy. pool facility well maintained and staff where fabulous , restaurant and eating facility was very poor in regards to cost and choice and was priced unbelievably high , poor menu choice overall and bar prices reflect 6star not 4star . Food was ok that's all nothing fancy.
Better choice out of hotel and local area , very disappointed with bar and again bar prices . I would plan to avoid any Macdonald Hotels in the future due to there lack of thinking .
Went to the one in Marlow
Went to the one in Marlow. Beware of the parking! Charged £100 even though we put our registration in the iPad as instructed no-one would take responsibility hotel or restaurant where we had lunch (Sindhu) both just said they were sorry but … so did everything I was asked to and now £100 out of pocket and stressed due to at least 30 emails with hotel, restaurant and parking UKPC. Nice place but do not count on being charged an additional £100 which makes an expensive day
Mcdonald resort Aviemore
Hired a lodge which was basic but clean, however most of the facilities were closed and what was open was reduced ie pool was open but wave machine was apparently broken and flumes were only activated if alot of people were in pool. Soft play closed early even though we were told 8pm at check in.....would never stay here again.
Linden Hall Room 118 - never again!
Room 118
We booked this little stay as we had hoped to have a relaxing night here after not being able to celebrate the festivities, but this was not to be.
Our room was right beside the air conditioning unit which is extremely noisy till 10:30pm and then a lovely wake up at 6am.
The service was very poor apart from the receptionist who was helpful upon arriving.
Although we had booked to bring our dog along with us, this was missed off when checking in and we were told that it is £15 for the dog to stay not £10 as advertised 🤷🏻♀️
The spa was fully booked upon arriving, which is disappointing, as again we had hoped to relax and unwind.
We had not booked any treatments but wanted to use the facilities that was with our offer.
The room was dirty, someone’s slipper sticking from under the bed, bathroom dirty with grey hairs in bath, mould around ceiling and bath.
1 of the towels on the rail was dirty when took off to use.
Unfinished paint work, which I was shocked at, as a hotel of such apparent standard, I would not expect this.
The quality of the food was extremely disappointing and resembled something you would expect from Wetherspoons.
Aviemore hotel.
Aviemore hotel.
What a joke. Rooms are done in the aviemore hotel stinks its damp glade plug ins all over the place. Carpets are like an old snooker club. Staff have zero customer service skills. 1 told me she had been working none stop for 11 days solid. As for the santa experiance this is a massive rip off nothing open. Elfs didnt show up for work. Skating closed and you pay extra for that. Cinema closed during the day, panto on at same time as elfs workshop. No direction no signposting. The santa cant even be arsed asking my kid what they want for xmas. The customer service and experiance is non existant. Fuming. Left early as trip was ruined. Did get a refund but manager was rude when agreeing to this. They did not stick to an agreement to call us on time when they said they would. The list goes on. Stay well clear its a joke.
Not the friendliest up in Aviemore .bad…
Not the friendliest up in Aviemore .bad attitudes by a lot of staff.. barman stated he was overworked .. drinks prices were a joke.. over in swimming pool lifeguards sat on phones and paid no attention to pool and it was quite busy. .. soft play was filthy .. girl in cafe was very rude .. unsure what nationality but had not a nice manner ,again sat on phone and seemed annoyed when she had customers. This will be last Santa weekend we do up here. Put the phones down and smile
Disappointing
So visited Norwood Hall in Aberdeen for my birthday this weekend, have got to say i was extremely disappointed in it. From the mediocre breakfast to the overpriced lunch and dinner menu, not to mention the dodgy response we got to my friend phoning and gifting me a £100 for my birthday to spend in the hotel, who knew it would be put into the staff gratuity pot which then changed to it was gifted to another room by mistake despite them phoning my room to tell me about it. Customer service is non existent in this hotel especially for a hotel that claims to be four star. Not a pleasant experience and one i will not be repeating, we couldn't wait to leave. Shame on you Macdonald hotels for not providing better value for such a supposed high class establishment.
this is not for me
Just appalling
Just appalling, diabolical. Do not holiday with this company. Please contact me if you'd like fuller details. Frightening. Dangerous equipment, dire customer service, filthy accommodation. I just want to do all I can to prevent others from having the same experience as I have from this disgraceful company.
Tired, Unclean Accommodation and Rude Staff.
If you're looking for a tired and unclean hotel room, look no further. If you want staff who, if you can ever find them, are rude and dismissive, look no further. If you want equipment which fails and can be dangerous, look no further. If you want meals which are substandard, look no further.
Look no further than MacDonald Hotels if you want to pay 4 star prices for truly terrible accommodation and service.

I had dinner in one of the new riverside PODs at the Compleat Angler Hotel Marlow last night and it was terrific. Wonderful food, amazingly friendly and attentive service, great atmosphere. An all round wonderful evening.
Mac Donald Elmers Court Hotel resort.. Upsetting Spa experience
Booked a Spa Day only to have a really upsetting experience.
Treatments were previously confirmed as required. Turned up to an unwelcome reception with no one being at the desk - then to be told I was late!
Apparently the times had been changed the previous day. I had been unable to confirm this change as I had not received any form of notification (which the Spa Manager confirmed could be due to bad signal in that area).
After the staff not knowing about this change (later finding out it was the manager) they managed to fit us in. However, they didn’t tell us it was going to be half the treatment time leaving both my partner and I both surprised as it came to an end. I spoke to the Spa Manager and told her how upset I was but she wouldn’t deal with the complaint there and then as I booked it through Spaseekers who she told me to contact.
I did this and the Spa only agreed to pay £25 each which is less than half of what we paid.
I am very disappointed to still be waiting for a response from the hotel as I don’t feel this is acceptable compensation.
The whole Spa experience was ruined by it being so unorganised. It ruined my mini break.
Absolute useless
Absolute useless, tried calling many times, they never answer the phone, then kept trying only to find no rooms available, never again will i use this chain
Clearly dont need any customers
I have been trying to book a spa day for 10 days, no-one answers the phone. As a last resort i sent an email, I got a reply a few days later (so I know its a manned address), I've since sent another 3 emails wit no reply. Ill book elsewhere....
Linden Hall Spa and Country Club
Amongst the worst hotels I've ever had the misfortune to stay at, and as a retired Airline Pilot, I've stayed at a fair few!
On arrival the exterior lights had failed ( apparently a regular occurrence). It's pitch black and in a remote area so this is a real problem.
Whole hotel tired and outdated and badly in need of maintenance. Smelly carpet, scabby bathroom, heating via a radiator you can't turn off, so room like a sauna and can't leave window open because air handler outside is so noisy. Walls painted so badly you can see the previous colour through it in patches.
One of the more expensive (£18) and yet worst hotel breakfasts I've ever had.....If you wanted smoked haddock and a poached egg they wanted a £5 supplement.
Bacon (one rasher) was practically raw, as was the single sausage. Grilled tomato ( again singular) was hard and sour. One poached egg was fine. One hash brown: greasy. The black pudding was good.
Toast was cheap supermarket bread and tasteless. There were two butter pats between three of us, and the staff were totally disinterested.
The pool area: Again tired and shabby. The changing area and shower area were frankly disgusting. Hot tub dirty, steam room not working, lockers broken
Dinner: Well after the appalling breakfast I didn't want to risk it.
Good points: The bed was good and comfortable. Room was quite spacious.
Would never stay here again, and on the strength of this will be very reluctant to use a MacDonald hotel in the future. Sadly, a Travelodge is a better proposition.
Update. Second day ( trip was prepaid and non-refundable). Breakfast was much improved and actually cooked properly.
Had better wait staff that listened.
As a result, marking up from one star, to two.
Arrived for spa break
Arrived for spa break, massage poor, facial good. Booked a table in restaurant for 730, to be then called to say time was wrong and could we come now! Food in restaurant good. Hotel room clean. Breakfast, disorganised, tables not cleaned, floor sticky, a very ‘sloppy’ experience all round. Considering Covid, I watched a waitress wipe down a table and not lift the cutlery and wipe underneath…. Won’t be coming back
MacDonald Botley - shockingly bad, dreadful management
Pros: lovely therapist (Beth) and massage, excellent at her job and customer care
Cons:
- reception unmanned, people having to wait for ages with no bell or information on how to get attention
- surly, unfriendly receptionist when he turned up
- lot of large stains in the room and on the bed and headboard, broken window which couldn't be closed making it cold and unsafe, lampshade cracked and broken, door handle missing, peddle-bin stuck closed, missing paint and plaster, very shabby, old and worn out room - not 4 star!
- large dead black beetle on the 'clean' robe. robe had hole under the arm & broken belt loop
- restaurant - we had pre-booked gluten free food (because of Coeliacs Disease) but were given a bread roll with the soup and told it WAS gluten-free. shocking to get it that wrong! potentially life-threatening, but they didn't seem to care or really understand the severity or the laws around this
- piercing fire alarm above the bed went off 8 times throughout the night. manager told us someone had left their shower on(?), but reviews showed this had been going on for weeks. we don't appreciate or expect to be lied to just to shut us and other guests up
- breakfast - pre-booked for gluten free, but not catered for, which just left us with bacon and egg, no proper English breakfast as promised and paid for
- manager fobbed us off, wasn't prepared to put things right, apologised a lot, but they are just empty words and excuses and mean nothing if no action is taken. this was supposed to be a lovely birthday treat which ended up being a nightmare, no sleep, no proper food, etc etc. We paid a lot for this, but were not given what we paid for, nor were all the other unhappy customers waiting to see the manager.
- CEO's Michael Stott (former) ignored complaint, current CEO Tara O'Neill said she would get it looked in to, after chasing a number of times had email from Julian Tomlin MD apologising. Do they really think an apology makes up for all the wasted money, the stress, the lack of sleep, the miserable experience?
Quite shocking to have such a dreadful stay in a so-called 4-star hotel, managers who lie and CEO's who let customers be treated like this. Come on Macdonald Hotels, up your game, treat people with respect, take responsibility for your mistakes and make amends.
Would like to say a big thank you to…
Would like to say a big thank you to Chloe and Nicky at Macdonald portal in Tarporley. We had our wedding there on 25/09/21 and it was the most perfect day we could have ever asked for. All the staff that worked that day all went above and beyond to make it so special. They made the whole wedding so stress free and relaxing all our guests absolutely loved it. Thank you so much for making it so special, we had the best day of our life’s.
