REVIEW
We had a very poor experience with Lyons Davidson Solicitors, who were appointed as the panel solicitor through our LV home insurance legal expenses cover.
In our experience, they were slow to respond, slow to read the material provided and even slower to take any meaningful action.
When we pointed out that they had gone beyond their own 5 day response timeframe promise for responding to written correspondence, we simply received what appeared to be a stock holding response word for word identical to the one we had received a week earlier saying the matter was being dealt with. It felt like this was sent merely to tick a box to reset the 5 day service standard timeframe rather than to reply properly to our correspondence or progress the case. Incidentally, we never received a return phone call in the 1 working day service standard time frame either, in fact we never received a return phone at all.
When I phoned to chase the matter and explained the history, I was asked whether I wanted to speak to the case handler’s supervisor. I said yes. I was then left on hold for some time before being put through to another person, who was female. She spoke to me about the case handler’s workload and other internal factors, which led me to believe that I had been put through to the supervisor and that the matter had finally been escalated.
Later that same day, after I did not receive the promised return call from the case handler, I phoned again and was told by a different receptionist that the case handler’s supervisor was male. This was extremely confusing and, in my view, very disingenuous. It gave the appearance that I may have been deliberately led to believe I was speaking to the supervisor, when I may actually have been put through to a colleague instead.
This left me with serious concerns about who I had actually spoken to, whether my complaint had genuinely been escalated at all and whether the situation had been handled honestly and transparently.
When we eventually received a substantive response, it was extremely disappointing. The person dealing with the matter appeared not to have read the full background or understood the history of the dispute.
This was a live neighbour dispute involving repeated access onto our land without permission, damage to our garden, mess being left in our garden following works and guttering being left to discharge significant volumes of water onto our grass. Despite this, when they did respond, the case handler asked numerous irrelevant questions, repeated obvious points about our own property which we already knew and failed to engage properly with the actual issues we had raised.
The response also gave the impression that they had misunderstood the nature of the matter. We were not trying to bring a claim against our neighbour; the issue was about defending ourselves from allegations and protecting our property position.
If the case handler had questions or needed clarification, it would have been far more appropriate to pick up the phone rather than send what felt like a rushed and poorly considered letter.
We also received advice which directly conflicted with the initial advice we had been given by the legal helpline on important aspects of the case. This left us with no confidence that the matter had been properly reviewed or that we could rely on them to handle a claim going forward.
Overall, our experience was extremely poor. Based on this, I would not recommend Lyons Davidson Solicitors for anyone dealing with a boundary or neighbour dispute through home insurance legal expenses cover.
I would also seriously question the value of paying extra for legal expenses cover with LV home insurance if this is the standard of support provided when you actually need to use it

The letters/emails etc went back and forth and it was a really stress-full time with no agreement. Then after 7 months this solicitor left and we were allocated a new solicitor who put the facts of our case very bluntly and we did manage to reach a settlement.
P.S - They set-up a portal for correspondence rather than use emails but you send them messages to try and keep in touch but they never use it, so you try phoning them and leave a voice-mail but they never get back to you. My advice is to agree regular weekly or bi-weekly updates for your case at a set day/time of the week for Lyons Davidson to call you and we found this worked a lot better.

Tyrell Blake provided an excellent service. He replied promptly to my emails, and followed up any queries, always keeping me in the loop with what was going on. He was courteous and friendly in his attitude and approach. His communications were detailed and information was relevant. The claim took a long time to complete, mostly down to delays and problems caused by Premex, but Tyrell followed any issues up and pursued them until they they were resolved. I unreservedly recommend his services.

We were put in touch with Lyons Davidson, Bristol in December 2025 by our insurance company, related to a contract issue with a car dealership. Initially, Lyons Davidson appointed another Case Handler for us, but as matters were moving frustratingly slowly, we contacted the Case Supervisor Ben Johnson, who transferred it to Nelay Joshi.
Nelay was totally responsive, competent and professional. He was always courteous, gave sensible advice and represented our side efficiently. We very much appreciated his hard work during this time.
Nelay made an extremely stressful situation more manageable and with his invaluable input, we were recently able to achieve a positive outcome. Thanks again.

I would give 0 stars if I could. I was referred to Lyons Davidson through my home insurance legal expenses cover. They are a really bad firm of solicitors. It took over a month for them to make an assessment of my case, only to tell me that I have less than 50% chance of success under my legal expenses cover so if I wish for them to proceed I have to pay them directly. In my case it was clear that I had great chance of success considering case law and previous challenges so I took matters into my own hands and successfully challenged the company I had an issue with. I would say don't waste your time with Lyon Davidson.

This rating is really for Katie Britton who has not been my case handler for very long. My case was passed to Lyons Davidson over 3 years ago now and I have had numerous case handlers, my issues have been, poor response times to messages( says 5 working days on site but some of my replies took weeks and you end up having to ring to try and get things moving), wasting time by not understanding my case properly and what I was claiming for and not explaining what will happen and how long it will roughly take. Katie then took over and I suddenly felt that things were moving forward, she has finalised my claim within a couple of months but not only that she was great with keeping me updated on what she needed and what she would do and managed my expectations, her responses to texts were timely as well, so thank you Katie

I gave 5 star but would give more if there were more to give. Extremely polite, professional staff. As I was unwell I knew I could trust my solicitor. Catherine Stewart to act for me. Catherine was completely focused on taking my case forward. She gave me excellent advice service, to the successful conclusion of my case, winning full compensation for me. I always felt included at all times as Catherine and other staff Lyons Davidson staff were always there when I needed clarification or assistance. It is really important to be able to contact your solicitor and I was always able to do this. When I was in hospital Catherine had my permission to contact my husband, which helped me concentrate on my recovery. She rang me personally to give me the good news that we had reached an acceptable settlement with the other side.

slow , then you spend ages using the portal or calling and emailing , still no response for weeks . My first and only contact with a solicitor , I wish I was told I could choose my own in the beginning . Defiantly , no recommendations from myself , based on my personal experience .
