levington multi purpose compost. bought this compost for starting seeds for my greenhouse and my allotment and herbs in pots. its allfull its full of sticks, stones and other rubbish. the only thing that will grow in it is mushrooms not helpful when you not growing mushrooms.

I have been gardening for many years, in the past 12 months or so I have switched to using Levington Multi Purpose compost for large pots and containers. It transpires this was a fatal decision. This compost is a total disaster, it clearly contains no nutrients and to obtain any type of healthy display I have had to constantly feed the plants. I agree with another review about the black liquid emitted which stains everything. A shockingly bad compost to be avoided at all costs.

Bought a few bags of Levington peat free compost from Wickes. Extremely poor quality and full of twigs and sticks. As others have said, the plants don't like it and simply won't grow! The pots we have planted with the remainder of Wickes own compost purchased last year are all doing well. Will never by a Levingtons product again.

I bought a few bags of Levington essential compost for planting out pots,baskets etc. What an absolute load of rubbish, it has a variety of plastic pieces in it and not just little twiggy bits of wood but big sticks . The plants don't like it either, very slow to grow. Complete waste of money. Will never buy anymore.

Awful - have always used this compost for troughs. This year it was full of twigs - the trough plants just wont take off, i have grown baskets and troughs for years and never had this issue before. I wont buy again!!!!

Absolute rubbish. When planters have been watered a black water drains out staining anything it falls on. Patio stained, decking stained and white walls stained. Avoid.

I bought two bags of Miracle grow multipurpose compost in May to bring on some young plants not only was it full of sticks it left black sooty marks over the patio after watering. This morning I have noticed small mushrooms have sprouted all over my pots. It's probably, no definitely, the worst compost I've ever had

Purchased about 10 bags of Levington peat-free Multi-Purpose compost and a couple of bags of peat-free seed and cutting compost. Germination of the seeds (all new packets) was extremely slow, so decided to sieve both of the composts - their seemed little difference in the texture between the two apart from the price! The amount of rubbish I sieved out of the compost was vast. The other problem was the compost took ages to dry out and eventually rotted all of the young seedlings.
I have used many different brands of peat-free over the years so feel reasonably experienced, I always test if the compost is dry using the 'finger test method' and feeling the weight of the container.
I contacted Evergreen the makers of Levington compost with very little response - the website is difficult to navigate and I waited 10 days for the first reply. Eventually I was emailed some basic guidelines how the compost was actually supposed to work. Needless to say I already adhere to their growing specifications. Overall completely dissatisfied with their products and will not be buying from this company EVER AGAIN. Avoid at all costs if you value your plants!

Bought miracle gro peat free compost, as I always used to use the peat version with great results. When opening the bag, the compost if that's what it's supposed to be was clumped together in large lumps with big pieces of branches in it and a very strong smell of soot .also when breaking it up with my hands they end up as if they've been up a chimney. Very disappointed with the quality and would not recommend this to anyone.

Tomorite giant tomatoe bags, I have bought these for many years with a great deal of success but this year the compost smells stale no purple seaweed water leaking from the bags as usual tomatoe and cucumbers have turned yellow having to feed from day one I will not be buying these bags again, poor quality

I bought several bags of Levington multi purpose compost last week . Supposed to be suitable for bedding plants / seedlings.
It is terrible quality. Black mulch that binds together. Tried it on my larger plants but had to shred it and pull it apart but even then it looks nothing like compost I ve ever used. When the rain came,the water coming out of the pot was black which spread over my patio.
Site doesn't have a way if E mailing a Complaint. Don't touch this compost with a bargepole. It's rubbish.

Abysmal, A bag of uncomposted twigs. No seeds germinated in 2024 - Basil, chilli, lettuce, herbs. Pity I can't attach photos of the product - I have one photo with a measure next to it showing a 10cm twig. I will be sending them a very firm complaint.

levingtons essential all purpose compost .rather a coarse lumpy compost dries out quickly .no good for pricking out seedlings .ok for tubs ,enriching soil for planting .ok if some sharp sand added for cuttings ,not used before so time will tell

They mislabeled their lawn seeds and then proceeded to go for the cheapest option to 'fix' their error. Ruined my garden then told me they had done everything possible to rectify their error. I don't think they actually know what they are doing. Will buy turf grass next time.

Don’t use evergreen as there customer care is awful. Used there products for many years and always been satisfied. Yet when you have a issue they are not interested and blame you. Applied lawn feed with there spreader and per instructions, yet when this starts to kill the lawn that my fault and nothing to do with them! Used this product many times and no issues, so definitely got to be my fault! Anyway when people ask what happened to your beautiful lawn, i just tell them miracle gro happened! Won’t be using again after the care I received.

Awful customer service and experience.

Having been a loyal consumer of Evergreen products I was extremely disappointed when the grass seed I purchased failed to germinate. The experience was made worse by the customer services team that requested endless amounts of information for the same. The matter went on for weeks and despite emailing the company director it was never resolved they just kept on asking for information and pictures. For the record, I am not a novice in the garden. Given the service I have received will never buy Evergreen products in future and anyone else to think twice.

I phoned up today about the ph of miracle grow ericaceoes compost to plant a Japanese maple in it and they were very helpful and gave me the pH of 6 witch is perfect for Japanese maple so very happy customer 😁

This product is very disappointing; it appears to consist mainly of only partially rotted down lawn mowings and contains numerous bits of wood. The first one that I pulled out was 6 inches long and a quarter of an inch thick and the next one was 4 inches long and three quarters of an inch thick. At this point I gave up trying to use the product for potting and spread it on the vegetable patch.

I have used Levington peat free multipurpose compost this year . I am trying to grow tomatoes , but have mushrooms growing in the compost. Not good . I have emailed customer service and have had no reply . I will not be purchasing again and will advise friends not to , either !!

I have always bought levingtons product brand. This year i bought my usual bags of Levington Tomorite peat free compost. this year 3 bags were full of stones, bits of rotten wood and bits of material (weed barrier ??). i contacted their customer services department and after bending over backwards to send them images and info they admitted that this happens when they are packing from the bottom of the pile. They offered nothing in the way of compensation until pushed. for the loss of the three bags of compost that were full of stones etc and the time and inconvenience of sending them photos of bar codes and stones to enable them to investigate the issue, they offered a paltry £5 voucher that didn't cover the cost of one bag of compost. I told them to stick their measly offer and will never buy this product again.
