Spoilt by noisy eaters

Went to Liverpool Empire to enjoy the Opera Madam Butterfly. The show itself was very good but it was spoilt by the fact Liverpool Empire Theatre now have QR codes in front of each seat so you can order food as well as crisps sweets popcorn ect. So sounds of people eating or crackling popcorn constantly throughout the performance was very off putting it certainly detracted from the music ect. It can not be nice for the preformer either. On leaving the theatre I was horrified at the amount of rubbish left between the seats on the floor was empty wine bottles paper bags ect. We have decided not to return to that theatre as it cost us £100 and instead of talking about how good the Ellen Kent Farewell Tour was I ended up feeling ashamed of the state Liverpool Empire feels the need make money at the cost of audience enjoyment

Ordered pre show drinks as surprise for friends which I didn’t receive , waited for the interval then had to wander round looking for assistance was then assured that my drinks would be delivered , eventually received them but one drink missing so had to get up again and find assistant !!! The reason you order drinks is so you don’t have to get up from your seat . Very poor customer care

Caring & helpful staff

We went to watch Matilda on Saturday afternoon 6th December, the shows was excellent. I wanted to praise the staff who helped us when my 88 year old Mum took ill towards the end of the performance. The ladies who helped us were kind, helpful and very reassuring so I wanted to say a big THANK YOU!

Cannot see the stage!

The show we saw (partially, that is), was Fawlty Towers. It was excellent, the set, the actors and the choice of favourite scenarios. But the theatre itself is a bit rubbish. The rake (tiering) of the seating is just not steep enough. I'm small and I couldn't see past the head of the guy in front, but he himself couldn't see past the man infront of him, and the person behind me couldn't see as I bobbed from side to side. It really spoiled the performance for me, and since it cost around £86 per seat, this was inexcusable.

Lovely theatre but ....

I watched Fiddler on the Roof last Friday at the Empire. The show was amazing ... cast, set, and lighting. If you are wondering whether to buy tickets for the show, please do, you will not be disappointed.

Liverpool Empire is a lovely (ok, a little worn) theatre. I felt the seats were comfy and with lots of leg room in the stalls.

What I do not like, and therefore only have 3 stars, is the fact that you can have drinks at your seats in the auditorium. Even worse .... people leaving their seats during the show to get more drinks! This is not a cinema, this is a live show. The actors and musicians on the stage know when people are getting up, walking out and walking back in again. This is so disrespectful.

No theatre should allow people to enter the auditorium once the show has started. If someone leaves, they should not be allowed back in.

A man in front of me got up 3 times during the first half of the show, each time staggering back in with more drinks. A lady to the other side of me was on her mobile phone!!!

Other theatres may now allow this, but if not, please, Liverpool Empire, stop this disrespectful practice.

Saw Fiddler on the roof on Friday 26th September 2025. What a fabulous production !
Oh what a shame that the venue allows patrons to leave their seats and head to the bar returning with full glasses of beer or wine, disrupting the experience and view of the performances on stage. This was the second time I've been to this theatre in recent months and each time I've been shocked by this ( permissable) behaviour. I see it as an insult to the actors on stage and if the man in the row in front of me was anything to go by, it explains why actors complain about some of the behaviours they are experiencing. Oh for the days of being refused permission to return to the auditorium if left during the performance.

Tina Turner Liverpool Enpire

Shown quickly to a quicker queue to get in. Bags searched on arrival in line with rules at all venues these days.Shown be staff where our seats where. Queued to get to the battle for our pre-ordered drinks did not wait long. We did go on a Wednesday but the theatre was still busy with lots of people. We watched Tina Turner. It was absolutely fantastic. All the actors were amazing the lady who played Tina on our night had an incredible voice(there are two ladies playing the role they alternate for the shows). The young girl who played Tina as a young girl was fantastic a definite future star her voice was outstanding. Thoroughly enjoyed myself singing quietly to all the well known tunes. Before the end we the audience are encouraged to join in the songs. Had an amazing time. Well worth a night out. Exiting the venue was done orderly and quickly. Well done to all who gave me an enjoyable night full of happy memories.

Show great - security poor. Bar service even worse…

We went to see Bat out of Hell on Saturday 25th January. We have been regular visitors to Liverpool Empire. The venue is amazing and the production of Bat out of Hell was phenomenal. However, there are recurring issues at the venue. Yet again, we weren't searched or my wife's handbag searched. This is worrying in terms of security at venues such as Liverpool empire. Having seen the Just Stop Oil protestors disrupt yet another theatre production, the security ethos and regime at Liverpool has been very poor over the past few years. The other major issue is the lack of bar staff on duty. We had pre-booked drinks and arrived 40 minutes before the show started. By the time we were served drinks (as we had to join the queue at the bar despite pre-ordering drinks) and got to our seats we missed the start of the show. This has been the case for every time we've visited over the past 5 years. Please - take security and searching seriously and have sufficient staff to serve bar customers. We pay a lot of money to come to the theatre - please keep us safe by reviewing your security procedures and allow us to purchase drinks/snacks in an orderly manner and implement a process whereby people who have pre-ordered drinks don't have to join the very lengthy bar queues.

Do not use the bar!!

£22 for two regular glasses of mediocre wine is disgusting; as they couldn’t provide a till receipt we had no idea of the cost until checking our bank statement. Won’t make the same mistake again, plenty of bars around to use before the show.

Hugely disappointed

My wife and I are regular visitors to the Liverpool Empire. We always book the Ambassador Lounge and pay for front row seating. This evening I realised a mistake had been made and my tickets were for an afternoon performance (i certainly didn’t pay for that). I went to the box office and was looked after by Phoebe. She said “this happens all the time”. She spoke to a colleague sitting at another desk and came back with “you won’t be able to get into the lounge”. I said no problem, as long as we can see the show. She again spoke with her colleague who threw my paper copy of the tickets on to the desk and said firmly, no. Phoebe came back and said, you can have tickets for the show but you must pay for them. She did look embarrassed as she said it but, her colleague made the decision

I know AGG gave me the wrong tickets and I should have checked but considering we are pensioners who support the Empire, I would have thought they could have found 2 seats anywhere and allowed us to minimise this error. I think the Empire staff were unhelpful on this occasion and it was though, we have your money and if you want to come in, we want more. Stinks of greed really. There are enough theatres in Liverpool, now is the time to visit the Royal Court and Playhouse. Much prefer to give ghem my money.

Great show bad theatre

The one star is not for the show (Wonka) this is fabulous. We had to wait in a queue outside the building in bad weather just to get in. In the interval my 10 year old asked to go to the toilet and I told him to follow the sign. He did only to go in and a lady close the doors behind him blocking his exit. I quickly got up and went to the door and the lady said “keep the door closed and there isn’t a men’s toilet there anyway”. When he came back we had to find another but there was no clarity on that.
The worst thing of all was that I couldn’t buy sweets/drinks initially because the entrance and bar were so crowded. I went at the interval and waited only to get there and be told cash can’t buy! I only had cash! The lady said “the whole building is digital” like I was some kind of an idiot. I answered “so the binoculars you have to put a £1 in to use are digital?”
I never thought Liverpool would be so quick to cut of the use of money. Even the charity donation boxes got walked past. Our phones were still off and many were saying the same as myself. It may suit the theatre but they are getting less money because of it because it doesn’t suit the audience. I can understand a mix of payment forms but to cut off cash alienates many and doesn’t work for even the theatre. If they don’t want our money they are going the right way about it. I paid for tickets and that was it.

Liverpool Empire Trust fails again

Attended Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory last night at the Liverpool Empire. I see this is still a cashless venue, despite the increasing outcry. It's a disgrace that this trust is discriminating and refusing legal tender.

The performance was good and at the end, the actor who played Willy Wonka informed the audience of a children's charity that would benefit from donations.

He pointed out that audience members who wished to donate could do so on the way out via card only. He repeated, card only and it was obvious where his sarcasm was pointed.

As I expected, people had better things to do than queue up at 9.45 pm with card in hand and would probably have donated quickly and easily with cash.

If this venue had included cash (legal tender) rather than push the WEF agenda of a cashless society then I'm sure this charity would've seen more donations. Perhaps they should thank the Empire trust for supporting what will turn out to be a Chinese Communist style credit system if we don't stand up to this cyber enslavement.
