The support is great, but there are too many maintenance issues, every other month there is maintenance that requires powering off our servers. Every time there is maintenance they move us from Intel Gold which works OK to a 4 year old AMD CPU which cripples our app performance. It's very frustrating, they really need to update their hardware.

If you want to have super fast compute engine with VIP level support service, Linode is the one and only solution you have. It has more options to choose and very very economical.
Well documented API, reasonable prices, great control panel and great support who responds fast and does what they can to help professionally. Wouldn't expect that from a company of this size.
We joined Linode in December 2019.
The sign-up process was easy and we deployed multiple Linux VMs into Dallas, Frankfurt and Singapore.
After testing we migrated our services from another provider to Linode.
Everything was fine for a little while, then the issues started.
There are 2 main problems on Linode:
1) System Maintenance: When Linode performs system maintenance (planned or emergency) it usually results in VMs being shutdown or restarted.
Often "emergency maintenance" includes shutdown of VMs resulting in outages without notice. This happens regularly and by the time Linode issues a notice, the maintenance has already started, making it too late to do anything about it.
These outages are accompanied with the following message: "We have been alerted to an issue affecting the physical host on which your Linode resides. To resolve this, the host requires emergency maintenance that must be performed immediately."
2) Connectivity Issues: Regular interruptions at the network layer results in high latency and complete outages. VMs may stay up, however they are not reachable.
Emergency Maintenance accounted for 5 outages between April and August 2020.
Then in September the outages started in Singapore followed by more outages in Dallas.
We ended up moving Dallas to another provider and that resolved the issue whilst providing our business with stability.
Then the Singapore outages increased, one of them involved a switch problem then additional interruptions in November.
In December we experienced 4 outages in a week.
Our customers were angry. We confronted Linode who could not provide any explanation - nothing, not even a hint of what the problem was.
After almost a week with no explanation (Linode was "still waiting on a post mortem") AND outages continued (clearly the issue was ongoing and not resolved), we decided that was enough punishment to our business.
We moved the remaining VMs to another provider. Problem solved.
We would have moved earlier, however our VMs run a custom application that has static configuration and is time consuming to modify.
In hindsight we should have moved much sooner as the pain and suffering from outage after outage was affecting our staff and customers.
It's probably best to stay away from Linode at least until they get their network and hypervisor infrastructure under control and return stability to their service offering.
EDIT: 12 hours after I posted this review, I received this from Linode - another outage.

Great servers, cheap and fantastic support reply times (within a few hours on a weekend).
I've never been a customer here. I have heard of their product and services and they seemed sympathetic.
However, they started spamming me out of nowhere without any decent explanation.
To me this is abuse of personal data and plain old UCE. I don't do business with companies like that.
Linode was contacted about a security issue from one of its users by multiple law enforcement entities and refused to comply. This directly resulted in death threats from the account owner, whom they lied to about the inquiries.
Spammers paradise, if you are a spamming company park your domains here!

After looking into the report that you sent us, we can confirm that this activity did originate from IP addresses on our platform; however, the information you provided is not enough to open an inquiry at this time.
Tech support is good. uptime has been very good apart from 2 wordpress sites which had leaky cron scripts and consumed all ram, resulting in crash. After disabling wp cron it has been much more reliable. pricing is great, though backups @ 20% of server cost is too much. I tried probably 15 - 20 other cloud providers before settling on linode. 6 months in and I'm confident I made the right decision.
Another good in past hoster forgot about competition of free market before, and now failed. They was good. For now they're overpriced and do not offer anything that offer competitors in that market. Not bad hosting, but I can't call them good. They asked me to pay money after around 2 years of not using their account. Simply made billing for me that I'm owe them money (not too much, around $10). I paid for sure, but was absolutely unsatisfied with the company. Can't recommend them.
I was a first time customer, and had been thinking about whether or not to use linode, but finally decided to go with linode after watching a youtube tutorial about setup that mentioned linode had a scripting system that made setting up stacks easy. Immediately after entering my payment details my account was locked pending review. Very strange for this to happen having just given them my billing address and credit card information. They decided also to go the extra mile and delete my brand new account for not "meeting criteria". I got an email and amoung the top of the issues it listed as possible causes, it mentions using a VPN. I don't use a VPN, however it did give me a clue as to what the cause could have been, I was on my iPad using cellular at the time when I was signing up during my daily commute. So now we're in the rediculous situation where a company that has a responsive website that adapts itself to look good on mobile, and which gives no indication that it doesn't want sales from mobile customers, immediately bans them when they sign up for thier services (because it wants them to sign up while on a desktop so they can accurately track their ip address I guess?). Any technology company for which a celular iPad (a technology that has been around for a decade) ends up being such a great mystery as to be a showstopper, doesn't give me much faith in the rest of their tech services. So I will stick to digital ocean.

I've been with Linode for many years.I don't think they are the cheapest but I have had consistently solid performance on their servers and when there have been issue, they respond quickly and tech support has been very good. Nothing is perfect, but I continue to use them for all my cloud-based development needs.
Very poor reliability, lack of technical expertise, poor customer service.
I have been a customer of Linode's for over 10 years, and for a long time was very happy with their service. But in the last few months (mid 2020) I have been experiencing unacceptable amounts of downtime (from periods of minutes to hours) due to network problems in one of Linode's datacenters, and have had additional downtime due to large amounts of "emergency maintenance" on my servers and Linode's network infrastructure.
This has exposed two things. Firstly that they are technically out of their depth - after months they have still not solved the infrastructure problems in the datacenter. Secondly it has exposed how weak their customer service system is, and how poor their communication is. All they are interested in is trying to cover up their own incompetence, which has wasted a lot of time for me.
The trust and confidence built up over 10+ years has been completely and irrevocably wiped out for me by my experience in the last few months, and on the back of that Linode deserve a one star review.
The performance of their VPS servers is a joke. Even if you use 64GB dedicated CPU plan, it's absolutely garbage compared to Vultr, DigitalOcean. Run some GeekBench and you wil know that. Just avoid this sh**
If your application requires high uptime don't use Linode. In the 3 months I used Linode, they abruptly shutdown my machines and migrated them to different hardware multiple times. Prices are lower than others, but you get what you pay for
Overall they offer a great service, I am testing their VPS with dedicated CPU, it is fast and reliable.
Their network speed is insanely fast, and they don't limit you when you get traffic spikes (like other providers do unfortunately), I ran an Ookla SpeedTest and it shown 5 Gbps download and 4 Gbps upload. So network hardly has any limits.
Another thing I like is that they don't allow their customers to be pushed around by abusive complaints, that is how it should be. When someone makes a complaint, they only give course if the initiator has proper documents and complies to all laws. Other provides simply disable your account if complaints were received (valid or not), which is absurd.
They only problem I had was that, by default it didn't provide enough protection against unauthorized logins to my account. A confirmation link by email would be nice when new device logs in. I recommend everyone to enable 2 factor authentication.
I personally would need ~50% more monthly total traffic but this is OK too.
9 years ago I've started the VDS (lowest tariff, $20/mon at that times, now $5/mon) at Linode.
So far 0.000% downtime. Excellent.
I've been with Linode for nearly 5 years. Their services are easy to use, reliable, performant and affordable.
Recently I upgraded one of my Linodes and experienced worse performance on the more powerful host. I contacted Linode Support who were extremely responsive and helpful in working with me to resolve the issue.
It was the most positive support experience I have ever had with any company by a significant margin, and on this basis (and the other points above) I would strongly recommend Linode.
I should note I am a software engineer, so I can't evaluate the support experience for those less technically able. Personally I loved that the support reps clearly know their stuff and it was possible to have a meaningful technical conversation about what was going on.
