I can highly recommend Konnekt Videophones with captions. We got one for my Mum who has hearing aids and now lives alone as my Dad has gone into a Nursing home. Since getting the videophone we have been getting more phone calls from her, she is more alert and interactive and much happier despite Dad not being at home. She can even call my brother in the USA and on their Telstra Program the phone and calls only cost $5/month. Its absolutely fantastic.

Konnekt has been extremely helpful and supportive. Now it is up and running it has been a game changer for my father who has poor hearing and eyesight and is in an aged care facility. He cannot use a normal phone. But he can use the large screen and loves being able to see family and to reach out at will. The rental cost is very low and affordable for everyone. You can stop at any time. If you or a loved one is struggling, give it a try.

This device is perfect for those with hearing loss, dementia, low vision, or mobility challenges, providing an easy and accessible way to stay connected.

I have found the Konnekt videophone absolutely indispensable for use in communicating with my 103 year old mother at a care facility 1/2 drive from me. I cannot drive for a few months and this mode of connection has been a real God send. My mother’s health varies, but even if she does not have the energy to interact with me during sick periods the auto call feature has meant we can wave I can talk and she can read the captions of my talking and very very significantly when staff come to her room I can do real time chat with them and orientate agency staff to her special food containers, plead for follow up fluids, ask what she has eaten and many many other aspects when I cannot be present. When my Mum’s health is stable she can pick up the handset (the accuracy of transmission is very good) and read the captions and I can swing the camera around to other family members, aspects in the garden, our pet dog etc etc to give variety to my interaction. Konnekt have given me this invaluable option to care for Mum, to monitor how she is going and to especially use her memory as I bring up topics because she understands me much better with regular contact and with the high grade captioning real time.

I inquired about Konnekt for my parents who are in their late 80’s. It was becoming extremely difficult to contact them and when I was able to get them in the phone they couldn’t hear. For my mum it was becoming very frustrating that she couldn’t do normal day to day dealings with people over the phone. It was taking away her independence. The team at Konnekt were amazing, I only needed to supply them with a few details; key phone numbers etc and they built the machine and sent it out in a couple of weeks.
A quick set up and my mum is now delighted. Dad is also using it as he only needs to touch the name and if he hasn’t got his hearing aids in, reads the text. Myself and my parents highly recommend this devise for anyone hearing impaired.
Couldn’t be happier with the videophone. It was pre-set, making installation super easy, and the customer service was exceptional throughout—particularly from Daniel and Cain.
Amazing service & fantastic product knowledge. Konnekt handled everything and were available for any initial troublshooting by phone or txt. Nothing was a problem!
The product has given my father (& mother) contact with family & friends. Dad has hearing problems, peripheral nueropathy in his hands, & limited dexterity.

This is such a fantastically easy-to-use system that I’m stunned when people in aged care tell me they’ve not heard of Konnekt!
Our mother has dementia needed a communication solution where we could list the names and numbers of people she could phone. We’ve relocated her into a care home and wanted to keep her connected to her friends and family without phoning the police and other authorities which she was doing while living in her own home.
We set up the Konnekt unit in her bedroom in the aged care facility which took about five minutes and then telephoned Konnekt in Melbourne where staff talked us through the functionality of the system. The system includes a monitor, wifi modem and handset. I was stunned with how simple it was to set up, understand and use. All our mum has to do is to touch the name of the person on the screen with whom she wants to talk and then their phone rings. Once they answer their phone and start talking to her, their words appear on the screen so she can read what they are saying and listen at the same time. There is also a video feature which we’ve not yet activated because we wanted to start slowly to see how she would embrace the system – she loves it!
Konnekt sent a traditional looking handset which we plugged into a USB slot in the monitor which means our mum can pick up the handset and ring people, just like in the old days. The ring tone has been set to an old-fashioned ring tone which she associates with a phone ringing. In fact, there are so many programming options that the Konnekt team told us to just start with the basics and then ask them when we want more settings programmed. Another great thing is Konnekt recycles their products; this means Konnekt units are always returned to Konnekt after a person no longer needs it (passes on) and it is reconfigured and repacked for reuse! They even ask us to keep the packaging – I wish more businesses were this waste-reduction oriented.
Most of the cost of our mother’s Konnekt is supported by a federal government grant.
If you are considering using the system, I think they have a 30 day trial.
I still cannot believe Dementia Services Australia and other aged care institutions haven’t got this system installed – maybe it’s just getting noticed now. Either way, it’s been a win for our mum, her friends and family. Thank you Konnekt!

My parent is very hearing impaired and unable to make or receive telephone calls. For the last few years we have been reduced to communicating by text which is also tricky as they have a vision impairment. Today we made our first calls to them on the Konnect captioning videophone and the whole family is delighted. It’s a very easy to use piece of equipment and I couldn’t be more complimentary of the service we have received from the team at Konnect. They have been proactive, patient and empathetic in guiding us through the whole process from sales to delivery and set up. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone looking for a captioning telephone.
Installing a Konnekt video caption phone for my father has been the best decision I've made in a while! He is not able to use a normal phone so the Konnekt setup is a game changer. It is a small computer screen with a large button on the screen with my name and photo on it. My father just has to press the screen and it will initiate a Skype video call with me. So when he is lonely or a bit distressed he can easily get in touch with family.
I highly recommend this product. You may even be eligible for a government subsidy which makes it very affordable. Don't hesitate to contact Konnekt to talk about the options.

My 86yo mother in law could not have a phone conversation because she couldn't understand anything any family member said to her, hearing aids in or not. Konnekt's captioning videophone has been a GAME CHANGER. The company staff were all brilliant to deal with, from the initial enquiry, the technical setup requirements (very simple questions to answer, they do everything else). You get the videophone which is a screen about the size of a laptop - all set up ready to use with just a few simple connections and instructions. The company staff are there to help you if you have any issues. The owner Karl went out of his way to call on a Saturday afternoon to make sure everything was working and optimised. Mum in law is absolutely rapt, she can call any of us now and we call her and it's really easy for her to read the text on the screen (we have to speak a little slower to avoid transcription errors but that's ok). She absolutely loves it. Because she's with Telstra, it's only $5 a month for her and has completely CHANGED HER LIFE already. She's confident on the phone now and much more socially connected, so important for her. We highly recommend Konnekt and their videophone. I am so thankful for this video / phone service that has simplified my mums ability to communicate with loved ones. She had become calmer and more confident with the ability to get in contact with any of us in a simple manner and to be able to read the text if she has missed something that has been said. OMG Konnekt was exactly a it was described. Easy to order, easy to connect and such a lovely experience for my 92 year old aunt who has never used a smart phone. She get so excited when she can see me while we chat and I love her big smile at the end of the call.

I've had my Konnekt video phone now for almost two months. My hearing is less than 3% in one ear and doesn’t exist in the other, so using a normal phone is impossible for me. With a super powerful hearing aid in my only working ear I can just understand voices I'm familiar with, sometimes, with a lot of concentration.
I have had the NRS available for over two years but preferred not to use it unless it was an emergency: don't like the idea of going through a third person, especially with confidential information.
As a result, I was cut off from most people except those I met in person. Even then I often have to use a transcribing program to understand them.
Since I have my Konnekt video phone, things have changed dramatically. I can now use the phone almost exactly as I used to before going profoundly deaf. The captioning appears to be instantaneous and accurate - only some odd place names it has problems with. It even censors bad language inserting asterisks for the said word. (Smart people can work out what was being said as usually it starts to show and the number of asterisks is the number of letters in the word.)
I extremely happy with and it learns regular callers speech quite well. I have the loud base boosted speaker which makes it easily heard in other rooms and outside and talking on the phone. The captioning is almost completely in sync with the audio so it makes it very easy to understand, even without the video. I have only had one video call to date, as I get by perfectly well with just audio/captioning, even when ringing numbers for businesses and going through the menu options; the dial pad stays on the screen all the time, which is excellent.
The buttons are large enough to see without buttons, even when the entire 40 possible are used: the more people you put into the speed dial, the smaller the buttons get.
Konnekt people are extremely helpful and guide you through the entire process of setting up your phone for you. It comes with all your presets numbers and you just plug it in and either connects to your computer by Wi-Fi, cable, or it can come with its own Wi-Fi router.
Despite having a computer network I chose the latter, because it gives me more options. If I go on holidays or have to be away from my residence for a while, I can take the phone and the Wi-Fi router with me.
The phone itself id large and has a stand or it can be mounted on a wall or such. I have it mounted over my work desk as there was no room on the desk.
All maintenance is done automatically over night, so you have nothing to do. (If you are a tech wizard like myself then you can do entries, etc. and change Wi-Fi networks, but the normal user doesn't need to do this as Konnekt doers it all for you, including any upgrades of the software.
To me it’s more important than my computers, as I can speak directly to people instead of having to rely on e-mails being replied to.
I do have the handset as well, but for most calls I use the external speaker, but it does enable private calls (at least what is being said to be can't be heard.)

The team was fantastic in providing support to set up the videophone to meet our requirements. They went above and beyond to ensure that the videophone worked effectively. Videophone interface is uncluttered and simple to use and very useful for family to check in. However some dementia sufferers may require lots of practice, assistance or simple written instructions to make a call.
