King’s College Hospital NHS Trust - avoid at all costs! Totally unsafe, poor medical practice.

If Zero stars, or even minus ratings were an option I’d use them about King’s.
This isn’t a hospital it’s a death camp, in 10/23 I had suspected sepsis / vasculitis (both very serious issues)
I went to a&e, and then waited for 13 hours in agony, to be told by some random surgeon at midnight ‘You have about 3 or 4 hours’. I asked, for what? He teplied ‘to live, as your lactate is already 8’. ‘I’m handing you over to the physicians’ (to manage my last hours), the floor was covered in piss, and there were constant violent screaming arguments going on between patients. It was a highly chaotic and profoundly unsafe environment. I still have flashbacks from that. After they admitted me early the next morning to a medical ward, the ‘nurse’ almost perforated my bowel by incorrectly administering medication and then moved quickly to blame me for it.
Now sadly I’m under their ‘care - read torture’ at an outpatient clinic, I need a small simple non invasive surgical procedure. This was decided in late January. They cancelled three times and I finally had the diagnostic test in May and it worked for 4 weeks then faded out over a week). But now it’s worn off completely (unsurprisingly, we knew it would) and I have to wait until the end of October, to even discuss when the permanent procedure can be done. Meanwhile my quality of life is appalling and my mental health is worsening too…
This is not medical care, it’s torture. I’m starting to border on ‘it it worth it to continue?’. The a&e is the absolute worst, but the outpatient clinic is even more scary - they don’t care, and have all the flexibility and compassion of a brick.

Interview Experience

Interview Experience – Trainee ACCP Programme

Format:

Three OSCE-style stations (randomised order):
* 10-minute oral presentation (no visual aids)
* Communication scenario
* Prioritisation and delegation scenario

Constructive Feedback:

Pre-interview communications lacked detail, leaving candidates underprepared for the structure.

During the scenario stations, the provided reference materials were disorganised and unnumbered. This created a significant obstacle when attempting to navigate information under time constraints.

A disconnect between the panel’s questions and the content provided on the reference sheets created confusion during the assessments.

Observation for Prospective Candidates:

Applicants currently working within King’s College Hospital or its wider network hold a clear advantage. The clinical nuances and questions are heavily tied to internal hospital culture and routines, which are difficult for external applicants to anticipate.

If applying from outside the trust, be prepared for an uneven playing field. High-level clinical preparation might not be enough if you are unfamiliar with how KCH specifically operationalises care.

Advice to the Lead:
Standardising interview materials and ensuring direct alignment between questions and scenario content would create a fairer process. External applicants deserve an equal opportunity to showcase their clinical competence.

I'm beating my head against a brick…

I'm beating my head against a brick wall at the Endoscopy clinic at Kings at the moment. Every step is a struggle and I can no longer tolerate the school of thought which says that everyone working for the NHS is a sacred cow who cannot / should not be criticised. It seems to me that no regard is paid to our concerns unless we buy into the whole complaints culture that seems to be all pervading in our lives now. I am suffering from faecal incontinence and [ painful !!! ] piles - issues that were not part of my life prior to having two hernia operations at the hospital at the end of last year. My feeling was that two episodes of medics poking around in my nether regions were part if not all of the cause of my problems but to the credit of my GP surgery I suppose , I was referred to Colorectal for investigations. It has all been so tortuous and slow and what's tipped me over the edge today is the receipt of a pre-assessment questionnaire on My Chart. I've sweated blood and think that I've answered all of the questions properly [ why do bodies in public life assume that we all know how to use technology ? ] but what the hell do I do with the questionnaire once I've finished it ? I did look for an indication on the screen and tried the My Chart support worker on duty in the PALS office - NADA !!

incompetent

Quite incompetent. Referral from Consultant was rejected by physio. Only just fund out after waiting seven months and would not have known had it not been for many hours on the phone trying to work out what was going on. Incompetence and a clear breach of the NHS constitution and our legal rights. So seven months wasted and back at the begining of the queue. Is that fair treatment?

Communication problems with hospitals

There are huge problems trying to engage with the hospital . They currently use a My Chart system but you are not ` allowed` to reply!
I have been waiting 18 months for major surgery and they have exceeded their expected wait time.
Very disillusioned and disappointed with the service.
My friend was so desperate to get an appointment as they didn`t respond to emails or telephone calls that she went to KCH after they failed to offer her another appointment after her initial treatment was cancelled.

Tested positive for MRSA; the doctor informed me only 2 months after

Tested for MRSA in July: no one informed me of the result till September and prescribed the wrong antibiotics for 2 months.
Breached its duty of care on multiple occasions resulting in delayed diagnosis, inappropriate treatment, and failure to manage a Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infection. These breaches caused avoidable pain, multiple surgical interventions, prolonged recovery, and risk of transmission to a vulnerable cohabitant.
