I have been generally happy with the flight training on the R44 helicopter, which has been well-structured and delivered effectively. My instructor Leigh is knowledgeable, and the hands-on experience has been valuable.
However, the support for exams is quite limited, particularly when it comes to Principles of Flight (PoF) and other technical subjects. The available ground school is expensive (compared to my past PPL A experience), yet it does not adequately prepare students for the tricky CAA exams. Many of the exam questions seem poorly worded or unexpectedly difficult, making the process feel more like pot luck rather than a true test of understanding.
Even my instructor struggled with some of the questions when I relayed them to him, which highlights how disconnected the exam content is from the training. I've spoken to many other students who also failed the exam, which suggests that more structured and relevant exam preparation materials are needed.
If you're looking for solid flight training, this is a good choice, but if you need stronger academic support for exams, be prepared to supplement your studies with external resources
