The car had a smoke smell that was so bad it gave my son an asthma attack. Totally disappointed. Also needed servicing as noted by the service message in the car and no spare tire.

The car choice was limited. Only one full size car to choose from. Said car was dirty on the outside. I mentioned that to the representative and he suggested that I took it to a car wash and he could reimburse me or he could take it to the car wash at that time!!! That indicates to me that the facility was NOT ready for my arrival. The vehicle also had wiring from white maintenance chalk indicating the tire pressure was low on the driver's side rear window.
The maintenance light for an oil change and tire pressure was illuminated on the dash as well. Far away from the experience I was hoping for. Especially as a GOLD member.

Subject: Formal Complaint: Downgrade, Fuel Discrepancy, and Poor Vehicle Condition – Rental Agreement.

Dear Hertz Customer Care Team, I am writing to formally log a complaint regarding my recent rental experience. As a frequent Hertz customer who has always enjoyed positive experiences and excellent service from your staff, this particular rental fell far short of your standard. I faced several serious issues during this rental. Unwarranted Vehicle Downgrade: Upon arrival, I was informed that my reserved, pre-paid vehicle category was unavailable. I was forced to accept a smaller vehicle. While I was promised a credit for this downgrade, I have yet to see it applied to my account. Furthermore, I noticed an available Chevrolet Blazer on the lot. Instead of being automatically upgraded to this vehicle to honor my original reservation value, I was told I would have to pay more for it. Fuel Charge Double Standard: I received the vehicle with the fuel tank between 3/4 and 7/8 full. Out of courtesy, I returned it completely full. I received no credit for this extra fuel. Conversely, during a truck rental with Hertz last week, I returned the vehicle after fueling it and was strictly charged a fee to top it off to absolute full. It is deeply frustrating to experience this clear double standard. Poor Vehicle Condition: The assigned vehicle was unacceptable. The check engine light was illuminated upon pickup. The interior smelled strongly of burned marijuana. Additionally, both the interior and exterior surfaces were covered in heavy, greasy fingerprints. Facility Standards: The overall condition of the rental location was highly unprofessional. There was litter across the entire property. Employees were detailing cars using a shop vac while standing in puddles of water and trash. As a loyal customer, I expect Hertz to honor pre-paid reservations and maintain clean, safe vehicles. I request a full review of this rental, the application of my promised downgrade credit, and a refund for the fuel differential. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
